Delicious Indian Food for Vegetarians and Vegans

Today I popped in Nalan in City Hall, soecifically in the Capitol Singapore Mall with a friend. I was thrilled to see that while it's vegetarian they had a separate Vegan list of options near the end of the menu. Further, they had separate menus for those who don't eat root vegetables/tubers as well as a separate menu for those who don't eat garlic or onion.

I had the aloo jeera and lachha prata and they were divine. I ate every last bite of both. My friend, not vegan, had a vegetable curry and she loved it.

The service was friendly and patient and it was a nice atmosphere especially considering its located in the basement level of a Mall. I love that it was busy and full of people so it felt festive.

I'd like to comment on the mention that there is ghee in some of their dishes. This is a vegetarian restaurant, not vegan, so it's to be expected in their vegetarian dishes that dairy is included. However, there is, as I mentioned, a separate vegan menu so no need to worry if like me, you're vegan
And choose to order off the dedicated vegan menu

Fabulous lunch. Definitely recommend.

Affordably priced

Had a food coma after eating the masala dosai 😂 it was filling and good! Given its location, the prices here are very affordable too.

Saturday night.

I feel as though I wasted a night out.
Always hard to judge a restaurant on a Saturday night but I was here on a Saturday.
Really busy which was promising. Had to wait five minutes even.thoigh we could see a couple of empty tables.
Overall there were a couple of staff Woh were really helpful but the others had a face like fizz. The restaurant was busy and it seemed like some staff memebu were in a bad mood. Banging plates together, serving the wrong things to the table next to us, then us. We took back the butter milk which was given to us and the staff member told us it was our fault as it was on our order, it wasn't. Two minutes blaster she deleivered it to the correct table and hey,no apology.
The food was average, the baingan was good but the veggie dhal was bland(so I was told) the channa masala was pretty poor as well.
I could go on. I visited on a. Saturday and maybe it was just a bad night, it happens.

Excellent meal. Reasonable prices.

Traveling from Australia, the cost was cheap. A friend in Singapore says not so cheap. A Masala Dosa plus idli, vada and two samosas came to about $12 Singapore. It was top quality and delicious. Hard to find if you don't know the area. It's on the B2 level.

Best Indian food in Singapore

Nalan was definitely the best Indian food we experienced on our recent stay in Singapore. Although not a large selection of vegan options on the menu, the options we did order were absolutely delicious and much better than anything we had in the Little India district. I should mention now that the vegan options are not labelled on the menu and on our first visit we did struggle to explain our dietary needs due to the language barrier but thankfully we got there in the end and I'm so glad we did. We ordered the hara bara kebab, gobi manchurian, baigan ka bharta, dal palak, chappathis and steamed rice plus two refreshing fresh lime sodas for a total of $67. The kebab came with a delicious coriander dip, whilst the dal palak was very authentic with a great depth of flavour. The star of the show though was the baigan ka bharta and the manchurian. I would definitely recommend these two dishes. On the second visit we again chose the baigan ka bharta with the mushroom manchurian this time, with vegetable jalfrezi and a masala dosa, both of which were taste sensations. Coupled with a few chappathis this made for a great final meal. This bill came to about $60 and most main dishes are priced between $10-15, which is fairly cheap. If you have any curry cravings, than make Nalan your destination, you won't be disappointed.

Pros: Delicious food, Vegan options, Cheap

Cons: vegan options not labelled, More vegan options would be great, Toilets located in shopping mall

Nalan Vegetarian is amazing!

Go for special that includes a masala dosa everytime. Great place if you are already planning some time at the Funan digital electronic center. Enjoy
