What’s the hype?! - Edit
The line for this place is crazy. It’s a fun experience to try this type of mochi, but it’s FAR from the best vegan mochi I’ve had in Japan.

Yum yum! - Edit
I never had mochi before, and I think I will be chasing the dragon for the rest of my life. The shop is outdoor facing. It was busy, but the line went very fast. It is cash only.

biggest mochi lover - Edit
trust me it’s worth the hype!! (i tried mochi everywhere around japan and these were one of the best!) people who don’t like mochi can eat the rice rackets which were amazing too!
Read moretraditional japanese sweets are 99% vegan so if you see “和菓子” go for it!! you can eat all c: not only from this store
Cons: waiting time

warm tasty mochi - Edit
you can see them being made in front of you as you buy them, it’s popular but they get people through quickly, I recommend having your money ready so your not searching through change when you get to the front 😅 nice and warm and fresh flavours in the mochi, very tasty

Nice Rice Cracker - Edit
Sells Mochi and Rice Crackers. Personally prefer their savory rice cracker over mochi/sweet rice cracker, though it was a little hard to bite. Note that not all are vegetarian-friendly, prepare to use google translate to check on the ingredients on those packed rice crackers before getting the individual ones.

Interesting flavour - Edit
First time tasting mocchi. Different from what a westerner would a treat/dessert to taste like, but absolutely worth it

Tasty and soft mochi - Edit
Like the title says it is both tasty and soft mochi. Line moves fast, but there are a lot of people watching them make mochi so it might be crowded. And yes, this is the store of many mochi pounding memes.

The best mochi I had in japan! - Edit
Stand in the quick moving line to get a mochi to eat immediately, then buy a box so you can enjoy more later 😆 and try to catch the mochi making process!

Absolutely amazing! - Edit
We've seen videos about this place before going to Japan. I was super excited to find it. We've seen the masters pounding the rice and then bought the freshly made mochi. Super yummy, even just writing about it, I'd like more of it.

Delicious - Edit
These are soft, gooey, rich mochi. Mugwort is an unusual but nice flavour. Highly recommended.

Found this lovely motchi seller by accident just walking through pedestrian zone - Edit
I was walking from one of the many world heritage sites of Nara, and just happened to see a seller of motchi. I love good motchi, with gyukuru or hojicha so I was very happy to discover this outlet. In broken Japanese I ascertained they are sfv and then discovered them again here on happy cow. I am a very happy humy

Exceptional Mochi - Edit
Read more in this vegan Nara guide: https://itravelforveganfood.com/vegan-nara-guide/
Read moreNear the entrance of Nara Park, this traditional dessert shop sells a green mugwort vegan mochi with sweet red bean filling. The surface is dusted with soybean powder.
The mochi is exceptionally soft and chewy. And it’s filled with a generous amount of sweet red bean paste. One of the best I’ve had.
As the mochi is freshly made, if you are lucky, you can witness them pounding the mochi dough with a big wooden mallet at an incredible speed.
Pros: Delicious soft and chewy mochi

Delicious Treat! - Edit
I stopped here out of curiosity because the place was packed with people. I asked the person selling mochi whether it had dairy/egg/gluten in it and he said we were in the clear! This was so delicious and it was awesome to see them making the mochi. I would totally go back every day if I lived close.

Yummy - Edit
Different flavours from what I'm used to. It was great trying freshly made Mochi and watching the process. It was quite entertaining! Naturally, it was more expensive in comparison to other places, as it was freshly made.

Worth waiting around to watch as they pound the mochi dough with large mallets. The freshly made mochi are exceptional.
