Lovely independent family run business - Edit
We had the 2 people vegan platter / thali type dish. It consisted on a couple of veg dishes, a chickpea curry and 1 other, plus lots of enjera (similar to Indian Dosa). It was delicious and felt very fresh. The staff were excellent, they talked to us about the food and Eritrea, which was really interesting. Its a little hard to find, we walked straight past it, as its just a door way to upstairs- but I rang the restaurant and the guy came out to find us and then helped lift the buggy up the stairs too!

Beware- Nasty surprise on the bill!! - Edit
Feel sad writing this as the meal was delicious and service very good, but my husband and I ordered the vegan special which is listed on the menu as £35 (both online and in the restaurant.) When we came to pay the bill we were charged £48!! I queried this and was told by the young man in charge that the manager had changed the prices but hadn't got round to updating the menu yet and there was nothing he could do! Fair enough maybe if it was a quid or two, but a *thirteen quid* increase!! Particularly in the current climate with people struggling, for many a meal out is a rare treat that is carefully budgeted for and, for us, this spoiled the experience (our wedding anniversary meal!) It's not like the menus are fancy- they're pieces of laminated card
Read morethey could have stuck a sticker over it with the new price- or at least warned us when we ordered. We felt this was dishonest, and in truth, although the food was tasty, £48 was overpriced for what we were served, and the overall experience. Not sure if it was just this dish, or others too. Be sure to clarify the price before ordering!!

Delicious! - Edit
Had the vegan platter for 4 between three of us. Absolutely lovely Eritrean / Ethiopian food. You get more than enough injera and the flavours and spices of all the dishes were wonderful.
Read moreThe shiro (middle) and timtimo (red lentil dish) were my favourite! Would well recommend 😋

Great food - Edit
It was nice to visit somewhere a little bit different on my trip to Newcastle. A quiet night but I was made very welcome and the vegan special was clearly marked and damn tasty.
Read moreSpinach & garlic, potato and carrot, red lentil stew and a city sauce. I would make sure you ask for a napkin before eating as it’s gets messy.
The decor is a bit off putting but overall it’s worth a visit.
Pros: Food, Staff

OK - Edit
Found it ok up a stairway. We came here for a birthday meal early evening on a Friday in August. It was quiet and we sat up in the corner near a small bookshelf. Interesting decor and fortunately we were not sitting near an animal skin although there were lots about. Food was filling- we shared a salad starter (the only vegan starter) and then vegan platter for 2. The central sauce was lovely and some of the spiciest ones around the edge were our favourites too. Nice waiter.

Lots of vegan options - Edit
Tasty, good value Eritrean Ethiopian food. Great for sharing, lots of vegan dishes. Hidden gem just past Centre for Life. We had the sharing platter served on injera bread for four but it did for five of us (£32), absolute bargain!
