Vegan-friendly
Western
Non-veg
Serves fish, vegan options available. Small inexpensive to moderate priced menu based on the local quinoa. Ask what is vegan - usually the soup and the burger as well as a few other things. No Wi-Fi; just conversation. The shop is actually a van converted into kitchen with a open area for relaxing, and a tree-house made with bamboo just beside it. Introduced seafood to the menu October 2021. Relocated from Casa del Arbol. Open Mon 12:00pm-7:30pm, Wed-Sun 12:00pm-7:30pm.

Huge, tasty dishes - Edit
Went here twice due to its interesting menu. The half serve of soup was massive but really good, a thick combination of quinoa and vegetables. Both the main dishes I had were big enough to easily feed 2 people. I preferred the sauted Andian vegetables over the vegan guatita, but both were great. Appreciated the free starter and drink too. Everything is prepared fresh so it takes a bit of time, but it's worth the wait.

Disappointed - Edit
The food was mediocre and the service was slow. The quinoa was mushy, tasteless, and not fresh. I have been to Peru twice so I know good quinoa.

Delicious vegan food - Edit
A great little cafe near the end of Mindo’s Main Street. We are there three times during our stay in the village, and the food was delicious each time. They have an English menu with vegan dishes clearly noted. You can also order a vegan version of their different quinoa burgers (minus the cheese and mayo). The portions are big and they give you plantain chips with a spicy dip and a refreshing homemade ginger beer with your meal. The staff are really friendly too.

Delicious! - Edit
There is a great menu of vegetarian and vegan options (all clearly labeled), they serve fish but this isn't displayed on their main menu. We tried the soup which was the best soup we've ever tasted; my partner and I both tried different main dishes and they were both absolutely delicious and full of flavour. The owner was lovely to chat to and explained what they use to make the dishes and let us try their unique cocao honey (not bee honey) and cacao BBQ sauce which were amazing. Would definitely recommend if you're in Mindo!

Good vegan options - Edit
We really liked their burgers! The buns are self made and they also make their own sauces including a barbecue sauce. Would be better if there was an option if a side dish with it because they don’t have the biggest portions. Other than the burgers, they have a vegan soup and some veganized local dishes. Also, The owner is very friendly and we chatted a while about veganism.

Best dinner in Ecuador - Edit
Even though the restaurant doesn‘t look fancy from the outside, the food is delicous! Probably the best dinner we had during our Ecuador trip, so we went there two nights in a row. Our favorites were the quinoa soup, the quinoa burger and mushrooms with coconut sauce. Usually, the Ecuadorian cuisine seemed a bit boring to us, but at this place, all the food was full of flavours. First time we didn’t feel the urge to add tons of salt. You should also try the quinoa drink/punch they make. So good!

Good food friendly service - Edit
We had a great time here! We were able to try some typical food from the Esmeraldas region of Ecuador vegan version! The food was very tasty and about in line with other restaurants in Mindo price-wise. The owners were very friendly and let us try "miel de cacao" (not bee honey, but honey made from chocolate) and several kinds of sorbet for free. We had a great conversation with them, there was a very good atmosphere here and we appreciate the options for vegan food in this little town.

So lovely! Que buenísimo!
Read moreI walked in and felt so comfortable and at ease in this restaurant. I ate a delicious sautéed platter of vegetables with yummy cabbage and mango salad, avocado and tomato on the side and homemade ginger beer! I enjoyed a familiar and in my humble opinion quite lovely conversation with the family who owns and work the restaurant. I really enjoyed the peaceful environment and though I think it’s a challenge to not be located right downtown I think it’s quite positive because there isn’t any loud music or sounds of town.
I left feeling satisfied in my tummy and heart! Hoping to go back tomorrow...
Thank you!

One of my favorite restaurants in the world! - Edit
This place was a godsend! I am vegan and I just happened to walk up on this place. A lot of times when I am out of the United States I will eat chicken, but in Mindo I can eat some of the best vegan food in the world. The owners are so warm and caring, just like the food that they prepare. Beautiful food, beautiful owners. A little slice of vegan heaven.

Good food and vegan options but could be better - Edit
Visited here with my mum, girlfriend and her mum. We all the quinoa soup for starters which was very tasty and I had the sautéed vegetables and my girlfriend had a burger for our main course. My food was tasty if a little over salted the portion sizes were good and the service was pretty quick. The burger does not come with anything at all and when my girlfriend asked if she could have a side salad he said it would be an extra dollar for the salad. The burger is amazing especially with the BBQ sauce which is made with chocolate (which you can buy at the chocolate store down one of the streets on the other side of the main square) the food is good but overpriced for what it is and if you only have time to visit one place I think there are better vegan options around.

Awful no stars - Edit
I've been treated horrible in this place more than once. I liked their quinoa soup the first time, eventhough the owner was kind of ignoring us the first time and being super friendly with other table. My husband wanted to try the soup. We were with my rescue doggie and he looked at her like disgusted and told us to go out. PET UNFRIENDLY. Then I asked if the bun on the burger was vegan and he was bothered by the question he answered that only vegan things were marked and that the burger isn't. NOT SO VEGAN FRIENDLY. We ordered a soup to share and 2 burgers (b/c then he changed his answer about the bin and said it is vegan). When I went to the bathroom my husband asked if they had WIFI the guy answered very rude "we don't have WIFI or Coke". Honestly we should have left by then but my husband told me this last incident, after the owner forgot my "vegan burger". The soup wasn't as good as I remembered so this place worths nothing. Is the only unfriendly place in all Mindo.

Homemade Quinoa Burgers - Edit
Fully vegetarian restaurant with vegan opinions. We had delicious Quinoa burgers with homemade cacao BBQ sauce and red cabbage salad with passionfruit dressing - yummy!! You can buy the cacao BBQ sauce / cocao honey sauce to take it home. They also offer delicious homemade ice cream, e. g. rum and raisin. I also like the decor.

Gem on the main square - Edit
Delicious! We were looking for a truck but found that they have moved into a building. There were so many choices for vegetarians and vegans, so it was quite refreshing. The flavors were unique especially the homemade cacao ‘honey’. We enjoyed a wonderful conversation with one of the owners who gave us samplings of the cacao liquor. He spoke Spanish with us but clearly speaks English very well too. And some evenings they do bonfires next-door where the truck used to be parked. This spot stands out among a bunch of restaurants who are still trying to find their identity in Mindi. There are places trying to do traditional Ecuadorian cuisine but still throw pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers on the menus thinking it will attract tourists. Quality wins every time!
