麵飯素食 , at 東區大同路7-2號, is a typical, basic veggie street kitchen. Serves stinky tofu, rice and noodle meals, as well as small plates with vegetables. The seats are outside but with a roof. No English. Open Mon 8:00am-9:00pm, Wed-Sun 8:00am-9:00pm.

My Favorite Local Noodle Shop - Edit
This place is great. You sit on a little rickety bench, order from a lady cooking food out of a wok behind a wooden board and eat great food out of old bowls. I typically get the stinky tofu, gan mian and one or two sides. It's dirt cheap and filling. This is my favorite noodle shop around the train station. If you haven't been there you should give it a try.

Nice vegan food in a tiny restaurant. They don’t speak English so we pointed to the food what a guy had just ordered. We ate heavenly soup, noodles, stinky tofu (which was actually the best we had in Taiwan, and it was very mildly stinky) and some rice with veggies and tofu. We paid 270 NTD for 2 persons, and we got so full that we had to do some walking before returning to our hotel. The ladies there are super nice and helpful. Definitely recommend!

Quite a nice places if you just want to eat something small without spending much money. Stinky tofu is pretty good as well as dry noodles and the small vegetable plates. Seats could be a bit more comfortable, but don't expect anything big ;)
