Good and Cheap

The English menu is as seen in the photos (what is posted on the wall). I had the mushroom fried rice. It was a generous serving and came with a variety of mock meats, some of which were quite convincing. Very tasty.

Looking around, it seems the thing to do here is hot pot, however the menu for it is all in Khmer. There are lots of photos though, so could just point!

Pros: Yummy, affordable food.

Cons: Limited English menu. No A/C.

Confirm

The foods are all vegetarian or vegan. If you are vegan and want to eat fried rice, please tell chiefcook that you do not want egg in your meal.
The consistence of mockmeat is almost like real meat but they are made of mushroom, tofu or wheat-gluten. We have been living in Cambodia almost 2 years and come to visit this place very often. This restaurant makes really good soup. The Khmer people who eat meat also enjoy the food there too.
The big soup pot with vegetable, noodle and many kinds of mockmeat is really recommented. People could enjoy eating together.

Pros: Cheap and delicious

Cons: no.

Unsure how vegetarian it is

The restaurant is great street food looking restaurant with a big hall.
We went there for breakfast. There is no English translation on the menu but pictures good enough to sort of select the dish you fancy. The staff doesn’t speak English but I mean I feel bad for not speaking Khmer more than the other way around. Plus it feels like you are somewhere where few tourist go and so you can get a true taste of Khmer food.

Anyways breakfast menu was pretty limited. I ended up getting a bowl which is kinda like ramen. It taste good, it’s served with the cheap noodles you find everywhere but it well cooked.
Some pieces looked very much like meat and so after confirming with a bite I placed them aside thinking we misunderstood each other on no meat. But then the chef came to me and said “you can eat, only mushroom and tofu, no meat”. So I did. They’re either taste geniuses or liar. It had consistency and taste of meat (well what I remember of it). Who knows.

Tasty & reasonably cheap

Noodles, rice, dumplings and soups are on offer but what I noticed above all was the range of mock meats accompanying dishes. I think they're used less here then in Vietnam, say, and it gives this pleasant restaurant a different feel from others in Phnom Penh.

Slightly more expensive than similar restaurants in the city but worth a visit if you're in town long enough to want variety.

Pros: good food, cheap(ish)

Almost vegan

The yellow noodles no doubt contain eggs, but the Chinese noodle soup uses the white(egg-free?) noodles, lots of Bok-choy, and some mock meat.. The dried mushroom plate makes for a nice take-away snack pack.

Pros: Price, No meats

Cons: Location, Watch out for egg

Tasty Vegetarian with Mock Meat Options

I live just down the street from Mi Chay and eat there at least once per week. The food is not expensive, between $2 and $3 per dish. I especially like the noodle soup with mock meat. The restaurant is all vegetarian and is frequented mostly by Cambodians and monks.

Pros: Price, Quick, Location

lovely little spot

I actually love this place!
Food is tasty and really cheap and there's a lot of variety!
Every time I'm in PP I go to this spot, and for usually $3 USD I drink and eat so much that I struggle to walk ahaha!

Pros: cheap, good location

Recommended

While the hot pot is the order of the day at Mi Chay, they have several soups, rice, and noodle dishes ranging from 4000-8000 riel. Best fried mushrooms in the city and they give you a massive amount for 6000 riel. Fried dumplings are also a highlight and again, tons of them for 6000 riel.

Pros: Food, Portions, Price

Cons: Could be cleaner.

Good local find!

I was staying on the other side of town, but finding the restaurant on happy cow, I thought it would be good to check it out.
A Tuk Tuk from our hotel (street 152 phnom Penh) directly to the restaurant was 2 US dollars. We were told the maximum we should pay would be $3.(date of my review 23/01/2013)

This restaurant has a very local feel which I like, there is out door and indoor seating.
Almost, if not everything on the menu was vegan.
Initially we thought we had plenty of options, sadly at least 3 or 4 of the dishes I tried to Oder, were apparently not available, which was a bit of a shame, but we didn't let it bother us too much.
the vegetable,Tofu & soup dishes that we ordered in the end were great. Very generous portions too. The kitchen is open for everyone to see (which I always feel is a good sign of cleanliness)
Our meals were VERY cheap considering the portion sizes and ordering drinks with the meal too. The bill came to $3.5 US dollars.

My advice to any vegan would be to just try it! Having used happy cow for so many years myself to find vegan restaurants all over the place, I've noticed that most of the reviews are either very positive or very negative.
As a vegan, I liked this restaurant, but it may not be to other people's taste, so please everyone just find out for yourself. You won't know until you try! :D

Pros: Very local feel, Good portion sizes , Food very fresh

Cons: A little bit out of the centre of Town , Some dishes advertised on the menu not availa, Little to no English spoken.
