Hidden away

We had lovely vegan food at Mercer's. We'd previously walked past as the menu didn't mention any vegan options which is weird as they said they could veganise most of the menu. Thanks to Happy Cow we went back. Missing a trick really. There is a sign high up on the wall but nothing on the menu outside. Silly really. Don't need to list all the food just say vegan options available. Still enjoyed the sandwich and lovely cake.

Cons: Doesn't say anything about vegan options on menu

Local favourite

Hubby and I (and the dogs) always feel welcome here, plus having vegan fish and chips on your doorstep is heaven! The owner has real attention to detail (eg vegan tartar sauce for the f&c!) and offers a lot of vegan options. Very pleased they are on Happy Cow.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Friendly staff, Good value

Lovely cafe

We went there after a walk at Avebury. Great selection of delicious vegan cakes. Including some that are both vegan and gluten-free. Great selection of coffees, teas and joy chocolates that can all be vegan. Very friendly staff.

Thank you for lowering your score as your face said it all , At the end of a busy bank holiday Sunday we had only one vegan option sorry about this but due to lack of staff, a pandemic stock was low , some places had to close early due to the volume of people but we lasted until closing time , we will continue with vegetarian options

Great find

Popped in for breakfast whilst passing through Marlborough after finding on Happy Cow. Had a yummy vegan cooked breakfast and great coffee. The staff were helpful and welcoming. The menu had several vegan choices for breakfast and lunch too. Another reviewer mentioned that it took a while for the food to come but as everything was cooked fresh, a slight delay is to be expected. Also, they go the extra mile to prevent cross-contamination by wiping down before making vegan food and use separate utensils/pans etc. I’d rather wait a few extra minutes for that and freshly prepared food any day. We’d happily return and recommend this place.

Pros: Several vegan options, Knowledgeable & helpful staff, Freshly cooked food

So pleased Mercer's was on Happy Cow

Yes, Mercer's does serve meat but they are also making huge efforts with vegan fare. The two ladies there are both vegetarian and want to provide more vegan offerings. However, they have sadly been discouraged at times by the attitudes of some vegans even to the extent they were unsure they even wanted to be on Happy Cow. This all came out after we had eaten and when we said we had found them via Happy Cow and were so pleased they were on there! The owner explained that she cooks everything completely separately and cleans down to ensure there is no cross contamination, adding it would be both inappropriate and disrespectful to do anything but. This takes time and she has had criticism that service has not been quick enough as a result from vegans. We ordered a vegan breakfast and teas and actually we felt the service was quick. Along with the breakfast (toast, beans, mushrooms, tomato, sausage, bacon, served with vegan margarine) there were several other options including a burger and a quiche. They also have vegan mayonnaise and offer soya or oat milk. Another criticism had been they don't offer enough vegan choices but there were definitely several options we would have gone for and we were so happy to find this lovely place. The friendly staff definitely have a desire to provide for vegans and it would be a shame if this was discouraged by other vegans along the way. When we are in the area again, we would definitely return. We would have given them 5 stars for their efforts if allowed.

Pros: Respectful to the preparation of vegan food, Friendly staff, Good value

Cons: Serve meat but vegan effort good.

Great place to have a coffe

Lovely staff and place, I had a latte with oat milk (delicious), a vegan pie slice and a chocolate cookie to die for, produced in town. Absolutely recommended.

Pros: Locally produced desserts

Cons: Maybe a wider offer

Wonderful breakfasts

Wonderful breakfasts and great coffee. 1 cake option and they are working on more. I customised a vegan sausage and bacon sandwich with mushrooms. They even asked how we liked our ‘facon’ cooked. Wonderfully polite and helpful staff. Extra seating upstairs which was very peaceful. At the time we visited a choice of 2 non dairy mills and very good quality coffee. Great place to visit as just a vegan party or with omni friends. Big thumbs up!

Pros: Good vegan options, done well. , Great staff aware of what is and isn’t vegan.
