I wanted to love it - Edit
Melted has so much potential. I think I just ordered the wrong thing. I got the Aunt Weaver Stamper (it was already vegan without any additional modifications) on gf bread. I wish it would have had more cheese because the other ingredients were overwhelming. If I go back I would like to get something that’s more like a grilled cheese.

Good food - Edit
I got the vegan sandwich and my husband got the vegetarian one(which can also be made vegan by swapping out the cheese). We were both pleased with our meals. I appreciated the gluten free bread option, which is also vegan. The small cup of tomato soup for dipping was a novel addition, but wasn't very flavorful.

Melted - Edit
I had an adverse experience years ago at Melted in Napa. I thought about giving them another shot when I was in Napa again a few weeks ago but just couldn't do it after coming across my review from 2014. It looks like they may have gotten their act together...but please double and triple check with the staff to ensure your food is vegan before you consume it.
Read moreOriginal review from 1/14/2014: Not sure if the manager/owner knows this, but the vegan cheese "Go Veggie" is not vegan, it's just lactose-free but still contains casein. Unfortunately I found this out the hard way, as I am allergic to dairy products. I thought something was strange when I first took a bite of the sandwich (which was a vegan cheese melt), so I asked the staff if the cheese was actually vegan, they said yes and told me the brand (a brand I've never eaten). Not long after I left I started having telltale signs I ate something I'm allergic to, my throat started swelling closed and I got a horrid case of hiccups. Once that passed I had pain in my stomach for hours. I later went to Whole Foods and checked the ingredients on a Go Veggie package, and sure enough, contains casein/whey. I am really upset this happened, and would suggest this restaurant use Daiya or Follow Your Heart vegan cheese if they'd like to offer a true vegan melt. This is sad to have happened, as I really wanted to like this place and give it a good review.

Grilled Cheez - Edit
I recently moved to Napa and was disappointed to learn that it is not known for having great vegan food. We wanted to try something new so went to Melted for lunch. I ordered the Settin' the Woods on Fire and subbed vegan cheese. They use Daiya here and I asked them to go light on the cheese because it can be oily. The sandwich was flavorful and served with a small container of vegan tomato soup to dip your sandwich in. I enjoyed the sandwich very much and my only suggestion would be to use a different type of vegan cheese--I think it would attract more customers and I would definitely go more often. Some suggestions would be Chao or Miyoko's.

Bad day? - Edit
Super disappointed. Waited over an hour for 3 sandwiches and 3 smoothies. When we got the food it was quite good but the long wait spoiled any enjoyment. They said something about being understaffed but I don't think I'd bother going back just for the novelty of a waffle sandwich.

Best Vegan Sandwiches in Napa! - Edit
Melted makes homemade vegan, gluten free waffles and turns them into delicious sandwiches. They offer two vegan sandwiches on their menu - the Aunt Weaver Stamper is my favorite. But are also happy to veganize anything on their menu. The Taters Gone Tate! can be made with vegan cheese & tastes incredible! They offer the Dan Rather - a delicious chocolate & peanut butter smoothie and the Nosferatu - a super sweet, fruit smoothie. They are perfect as dessert! All sandwiches come with a small serving of tomato basil soup for dipping your sandwich. They offer a vegan hard cider too. Located in downtown Napa the restaurant is small and minimal with plenty of outdoor seating and a very friendly staff.

Decent Vegan Options - Edit
I thoroughly enjoyed my "Aunt Weaver Stamper" (vegan) sandwich. This was made of vegan swiss, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes and walnut arugula pesto. The mini tomato basil soup went well with the waffle sandwich. My daughter said she really liked her "Setting the Woods on Fire" (vegetarian) sandwich that had oaxaca cheese, tomato, jalapeño, avocado, salsa and cilantro. Maybe next time I will ask them if they could swap the oaxaca cheese with vegan swiss to convert the sandwich to vegan. It's a small space but food was good, service was pleasant and the bathroom was clean.

They will be happy to veganize the "Setting the Woods on Fire". They have done that for me several times. It tastes great. They are willing to veganize anything they have on their menu if you ask! Enjoy!

sandwich on waffles? yes! - Edit
I wasn't sure how I'd like a sandwich on a waffle, but it was great! It's pressed down, more like a panini than a fluffy waffle, with just the right amount of crunch. Plus, all sandwiches come with a little cup of tomato soup to dip in.

unique and good. esp considering they don't have to. - Edit
Napa isn't known for vegan food. it doesn't pair as well with wine. so I'm glad melted decided to offer their sandwiches anyway. they can make pretty much anything with the daiya cheese so just ask. it's a little oily and there's almost no seating but worth a drop in. plus Bookmine is right next door so..
