osaka hidden gem - Edit
I was there in 2018, when I believe it was one of few vegan places in Osaka. the place is small and cozy, with lots of books, little cups and dishes everywhere, walls covered with posters. it is really like being a guest at someone’s home.
Read moreramen broth was a little too thick for my taste, and gyoza a bit overcooked. still don’t regret visiting, it is a one of a kind place.
Pros: kinda secret, cozy, hearty vegan food
Cons: thick ramen broth, gyoza a bit overcooked

Lovely food and an even lovelier owner - Edit
My boyfriend and I ate here on a Saturday night. Somewhat sadly we were the only customers. The restaurant is tiny and all counter style seating, which is nice because it makes for a very cosy, friendly atmosphere.
Read moreWe had the mock eel donburi and vegan pizza. The pizza was not really to my taste, but the donburi and all the side dishes served were really good. It's just the owner cooking by herself and everything feels like real, fresh homecooking.
Speaking of the owner, she was so lovely! We both speak Japanese, so we had some really lovely conversation with her whilst we enjoyed our meal. I'm not sure how good her English is, but I've heard from non-japanese speakers that she was very warm and welcoming to them too.
Pros: Lovely, friendly owner, Cosy and intimate
Cons: The vegan "pizza"

A Precious Place in Osaka - Edit
I was fortunate to find this lovely place. Not easy to find good vegan food in Osaka. The owner is wonderful and the place is cozy. Easy to meet people if you want that, as the seating is close together. The food is great--very satisfying meal at a reasonable price for Osaka. I had the set meal. The owner believes in vegan food and offers delicious, healthy food in a nice neighborhood. Easy to find with Google maps. Highly recommended and very grateful that she is serving the public in this way!

Tasty ramen and dandelion tea - Edit
We had some issues finding the place since we got there after dark. Once we did, we really enjoyed and we happened to be the only ones visiting at the time. Both my partner and I ordered the ramen, which was nice.

Cozy experience, authentic traditional Japanese meal - Edit
My partner and I ate at Megumi on a Friday evening. I was prepared to wait given the reviews however we happened to be the only customers that evening and thus were seated and served quickly. The restaurant is cozy and adorable - seating just a few at a counter. The owner cooks behind the counter once you order. The menu was in English with photos. The owner spoke some English and was kind and helpful, even suggesting vegan options for our future travels to much less vegan friendly parts of the country. The gyoza were excellent. I highly recommend if you have time for a sit down dining experience and are looking for vegan versions of traditional Japanese food.

Cozy handcrafted meal! - Edit
The extremely friendly owner is the chef and server. So everything is made with love and you are made to feel very welcome. However, i did wait a long time for my food and the interior was extremely small, seating only maybe 5 patrons at bar seating.. so after a while i was a bit uncomfortable.

Pros: Handmade, Friendly staff, Easy to find location
Cons: Very small (seats maybe 5?), Uncomfortable seating

Lovely owner, food was pretty good but like a lot of vegan places in Japan it's a bit on the pricey side and takes a while to get your order but it is a one woman show!

Great food, lovely owner! - Edit
Megumi (the place and the owner) is absolutely lovely! My vegan partner and I shared the okonomiyaki and had a few organic sake's and beers. The food is made right infront of you! The atmosphere was really nice and cozy, an intimate experience with dim lighting. I cannot wait to go back again!

Good food, but... - Edit
We’ve been sitting here since it opened and after over an hour, we have yet to receive 2 out of the 3 dishes we ordered. Place is also cooled down to an uncomfortable degree and very dark. Would not come again.

Once in a lifetime experience - Edit
By far my favourite meal I’ve had in Japan. The setting at Megumi is small, but the food is stunning and the space is charmingly eclectic. The owner (who I assume is Megumi) cooks each meal to order in front of you. I’d recommend the set menu, which includes several courses of vegan mains and sides.

Great! - Edit
Megumi- A cute japanese restaurant owned by a lovely japanese woman who cooks all the food on her own. The food is not the cheapest for what you get (approx 1400-2900 ¥ depending on what you order) but worth it. You can order Ramen, gluten-free pizza, japanese lunch sets and more. There are also three different desserts (cake, ice cream and a special parfait) to try. My friend and I both had a lunch set as well as dessert and very much enjoyed it! We got tasty and fresh traditional japanese food. We also loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, so we would definitely come back!

Cute little gem in Osaka, all vegan Japanese cuisine - Edit
We made reservations as a group of 4 for dinner and ordered a range of items from the huge menu. All dishes were tasty, the natto okonomiyaki (which didn't taste like natto at all) was very interesting and delicious, and the okara nuggets were my favourite. The price is a little bit expensive, but considering the fact that one woman runs this place and cookes all food vegan, I can absolutely recommend this place. Definitely a must-go place for Veg*ns in Osaka, especially if you don't want to miss the chance to try some Japanese dishes.

Great find! - Edit
We were very hungry when we found this little place the little counter with the warm smells was very welcome. There is seating upstairs but we were the only ones there and enjoyed sitting at the bar style counter top. Given our hunger we perhaps ordered a bit too much, sushi, okonomiyaki (pancake) & miso. They were big portions and all tasted soooo good.

Real Taste of Japan - Edit
As soon as I walked in, I knew I would like this place.
Read moreDuring my trip to Japan I'd wanted to experience a Japanese style eatery and this was it. It has a long bar where you can sit and talk with the (very friendly owner) as she prepares your food.
The menu was great and did a lot of veganized Japanese dishes. In particular, I enjoyed the Okonomiyaki - a pancake native to Osaka which is usually made with fish and meat. There were also other Japanese staples such as miso soup and sushi rolls.
The portions were huge and we struggled to finish everything. All the ingredients were fresh and seasonal.
There is also a great choice of Japanese Craft Beer
It can be a bit difficult to find so I would reccomend marking it on a map if you don't have phone signal. It's near Tenjinbashi - the longest shopping street in Japan.
Pros: Great food, Traditional environment, Friendly owner
Cons: None

Foods are ordinary, nothing special - Edit
foods are ordinary at Megumi. Disappointed since have walked quite a distance. Long waiting time as this is a one person operator eatery. And the foods are pricey. Sorry but i think, I Will not come for the second time again.

Quiant & Underrated Eatery - Edit
The eatery is tucked away along one of the quieter streets and once inside, it's more cosy (and homely) than small (it has a second floor to accommodate more customers; restroom is upstairs too). The owner is a really nice lady who single-handedly manages the food prep, cooking, serving and bill payment. You can really feel every ounce of her sincerity in the food she prepares, which are mainly Japanese dishes, although she does venture out of her familiar ground too! The place is flexible and any further dietary restrictions/requirements (e.g. no onions and garlics) can be accommodated as long as you tell Megumi-san beforehand. Do try the okonomiyaki, tempura veg, miso soup, curry rice and the incredibly innoative vegan ice-cream! Megumi-san speaks only Japanese (if you can speak only English, you can still try but she will probably only understand bits here and there). When told I was from far far away Singapore, she was pleasantly surprised. She probably didn't expect news of her humble place to reach somewhere as far as the southern hemisphere, but guess what? It did😉And no regrets here. Had the most wonderful time conversing with her and because it was on a weekday, there were few other guests. Will definitely go back for a visit the next time I travel to Japan.

Lovely place - Edit
This is a small hippy restaurant run by a nice woman who speaks enough English to cater to English customers. It was so refreshing to be given an appetiser and not have to figure out if it was vegetarian. I had steamed buns, miso soup and brown rice and it was all delicious and served in a mish mash of random crockery.

Nothing Special - Edit
I seem to be in the minority here but, I didn’t really enjoy the food at Megumi. The owner was very kind and chatty but the food didn’t really do it for me. I felt like a lot of it was something I could make very easily myself. Also, my Pad Thai was more like spaghetti... I love to frequent the vegan restaurants in Osaka but, unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be back. Also, while I was there, I noticed one of the items for sale in the little counter at the front of the shop at shrimp (エビ) in the ingredients. Although the owner is vegan, please be sure to check the ingredients before making any purchases.

Cons: Expensive , Bland food , Shrimp spotted in one of the items for sale
