every single thing is good! i promise!

med deli was the first place i ate at when i was visiting chapel hill (15+ years ago when they were a tiny little bistro). they have come a long way since then, and, rightfully so. there falafel is good no matter how you get it - in a pita, on it's own, in a salad - always a+. their tahini sauce is also wonderful.
their pitas are great and made their in the restaurant. you can purchase them to go in bulk, also, and they have gluten free options.
everything i have had from their deli selection is fantastic. my favorite is their roasted cauliflower which is tender and a little salty. their cheese tortellini, grilled pineapple, tabouli, artichoke pasta salads are wonderful (and you can purchase them by the pound - which you should!) their spinach pie is also so lovely. they recently started offering grilled tofu, which i have not tried yet, but it's on my list.
be sure to get some of their turkish pickles on the side (they are tiny pieces of heaven!) and of course, get some baklava!

Pros: can purchase deli items by the pound, relaxing setting , owner is wonderful and kind!

good labels and outdoor seating

Had the falafel pita and a date oat bar, both were delicious! One of the best outdoor seating setups on Franklin St, they have fans that blow mist on hot days.

Pros: labels list ingredients , plenty of vegan options

Cons: also lots of meat

Truly the best

I go to MedDeli very often and cannot get enough. I love everything I’ve had and still haven’t tried all the vegan options. I love the atmosphere and outdoor seating. This is my favorite restaurant by far.

Pros: So many vegan options, A lot of food for your money, Local owned and family operated

lots of vegan options

Their buffet has a ton of vegan options at a good price. You're definitely getting your money's worth and you can really get creative and picky with your options. I usually take the 4-item sampler and rotate between spinach chickpea salad, roasted cauliflower, mujaddara, Armenian roasted veggies and Armenian wild ride, Their falafel is not the best (but still really good), however, their baba ganoush and hummus are worth the extra few dollars. I also love that you can pick your own sides (e.g. garlic sauce, hot sauce, roasted garlic etc.)

Beware “vegan” options

On our first visit I was surprised by the number of clearly labeled vegan options, many of which, like desserts, surprised us as seeing vegan versions isn’t common outside of specialty markets. Upon closer questioning it quickly became clear that they are either unclear about what vegan means, or are misleading customers, as many of the “vegan” items contained dairy and/or eggs.

Great local place, highly recommended

I have been living in Chapel Hill for a while, and this is one of the absolute best restaurants in town. They have an entire deli case full of various salads and other dishes, which are labelled as vegan, gluten-free, nut-free etc... as appropriate. There is also a menu you can order off of. I would highly recommend any visitor come try this place out.

So many options!

While visiting family, someone suggested I eat here and I am so happy they did! I had a cucumber and tomato salad, pasta salad, and a salad with tofu. The tofu was seasoned and cooked very well and tasted great. They warmed it up before serving it which only added to its flavorful-ness. You get a lot of food for the money. Next time I'm in town I will go out of my way to eat here again.

Hit or Miss

Med deli has lots of good vegan and vegetarian options, but the food here can be a hit or miss. Some of the food items are really great (I love the Cauliflower), and some are really bland and unsatisfying. I am a middle eastern and grew up with this type of food, and I feel like the food is pretty mediocre for this type of cousine and pales in comparison to what you'd actually get in the middle east. It's also pretty expensive for the food you get.

Pros: wide selection

Cons: mediocre middle eastern food, Expensive for what you get

My favorite Mediterranean food in the Triangle

Absolutely love this place! This deli has a very large selection of veg dishes which are clearly marked vegan. I usually get my favorite few but all of it looks good:-) & they finally have vegan desserts on the baked goods counter!

Best Mediterranean Food In Triangle

This is the best Mediterranean food in the Triangle and my favorite restaurant in Chapel Hill. There are a plethora of vegan options in there giant case of salads, sides and soups. Vegan options are specifically labeled as being vegan. They have the best hummus I've ever had. And the tabouli salad is to die for. They even make their own vegan and gluten free pita bread. In addition they have a free side item bar where you can add olives, pickles, and other sides and sauces to your food. I always leave with leftovers so I feel I'm getting value from my money.
They only have counter service and the acoustics are bad. So don't expect anything fancy or quiet, but do expect really good food.
The other thing I really like about this place is that I've been eating there for over 20 years and the food is consistently good every time I go. They don't change recipes on things that they have mastered. They are also the place to go if you want vegan catering.

Pros: Any vegan options, Great hummus, Big portions

Cons: Noisy atmosphere, Counter service

Run, Don't Walk!

The vegan food here is amazing! The deli offers such a variety of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean foods that you'll never get bored. Everything's fresh, including handmade pitas and 3 kinds of hummus. I recommend the deli sampler (1-5 item). I've never ordered off the menu, as every time I walk by the deli display on the way to the counter I see 10 things I want to try. They even have a dressings bar, with several sauces (some hotter then others), pickled veggies, and olives. Never been disappointed here. A really pleasant eating experience overall.

Great for a quick lunch, or large group dinner. There's something here for everyone. Plenty of indoor seating. However, with no partition walls the volume can sometimes get very loud inside making it difficult to order and have conversations across the table. Also, street parking can be limited at certain times, and the place gets busy during rushes.

Pros: Large deli selection, Many veg options, Beer on tap

Cons: Loud, Difficult to order, Street parking can be limited sometimes
