Can't go wrong here

This place has the perfect balance of exciting food that still feels homely. There's a humility which I didn't find at a few other NYC vegan restaurants who find 3 adverbs and adjectives to describe every single ingredient. The price is indicative of that modesty too. Jo and Noi pride themselves on making authentic Thai food and have the experience to do so. I had a 5 course meal which included green mango salad, Tom yum soup, cold rolls, noodles and a banana rice pudding.

OMG

The $25 five-course menu is an amazing value. The food was so flavorful, and the entire meal was really fulfilling. Based on my experience, I can wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone - vegan or not. The food is just that flavorful!

Pros: All vegan!, AMAZING FOOD

Cannot Recommend

$25 Set menu only when we went. Food is really bad - poorly prepared. Would’ve liked it to be good - it isn’t.

We're very sorry that the set menu food served on the evening you visited was not to your liking.

Honestly, we've never had a customer rate our peanut sauce, rice or Masaman curry as bad. Though we respect your critique. In the past some people have stated that they do not care for those items, but never that the items tasted bad. A more comprehensive review would list the NYC establishments that serve what you consider to be a superior vegan Masaman curry.

Noting that you are a self-declared fruitarian, our current menu items would naturally not be appealing since they are not fruitarian friendly (nor do we promote them as such). Masaman curry for example is a dish that likely does not appeal to fruitarians due to the fact it's rich comfort food including primarily cut vegetables, in opposition to the lighter/healthier dishes typically included in fruitarian diets.

We challenge you to a repeat visit at any point in the future, upon which our chefs will prepare you a complementary custom fruitarian set meal featuring a selection of both Raw and cooked dishes. We extend the offer to you at any of our locations in NYC, Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

So yummy

I went to their old restaurant in NYC a couple of years ago and was so happy to see they now have a new location! I went there twice for their "preview dinners" while they were still gearing up for their official opening. We had five courses (summer roll, soup, veggie and tofu curry, pad thai, and dessert) and it was all incredibly yummy. My friends and I were debating which of the dishes was our favorite, and none of us managed to decide😄I'm curious to try out the dishes they now have on their regular menu that I wasn't able to try during the preview dinners. It should be impossible, but somehow they manage to make all their dishes simple and fresh but sumptuous at the same time. Also, it's incredibly good value: a five-course set meal is 25 plus tax and tip!! (without beverages, and bear in mind they don't have a liquor licence)

Pros: delicious food, good value, simple, friendly, no-nonsense and no noise

Cons: no liquor licence

Good Array of Food but Slow Service

The menu offers many options for those who are not only vegan but also gluten-free or have other allergies (ingredients are marked). The dishes we ordered were good but this was unfortunately overshadowed by the very slow service. There appeared to be only one front-of-house server and one person in the kitchen on a Thursday evening. The dishes came out in sequence over ~2 hours so our party ended up eating in sequence rather than together.

Updated from previous review on 2017-08-04

Pros: Large portions, Many options on menu, Clearly marked menu

Cons: Slow service, Disorganized

May!

Our vegan family eats in every NYC vegan restaurant, and I must say, this was our best experience in a long time. May herself is worth the experience. (She also teaches cooking classes.) We had the tasting menu, and everything was delicious. Portion sizes were big, and a nice blend of foods. The only negative is on a really hot day they did not have air conditioning, but that should only matter a few days a year. Small place, so we went off hours, which was perfect. Highly recommended!

May Kaidee

Being fans of May Kaidee's cooking classes in Bangkok, we were really looking forward to eating her food once again. Although nothing beats eating Thai food in Thailand, the food here is tasty and the menu has all the favourites, from curries to pad Thai to stir fries and salads. There is however some room for improvement in terms of presentation, or maybe this was just a one-off. In any case recommended for anyone looking for authentic vegan Thai food.

No course menu available

I recommend two or more because no course menu. If you order salad and main plate and dessert, it cost too much.
I felt too much vinegar in the coconut salad.

Pros: vegan available

Cons: expensive

Best Thai Food EVER

We know May Kaidee from our visit to Thailand and we were so pleased with the food there that we had to visit her new restaurant in New York. People if you really want to try authentic and absolutely delicious Thai food you need to go there! I can strongly recommend the banana flower salad however everything is absolutely delectable, it doesn't matter if you are vegan or not!

Pros: delicious, authentic, friendly staff

Best Thai in NYC...vegan or not!

Internationally famous vegan Chef May Kaidee just opened the doors to her new NYC restaurant, the decor is not 100% finished but do not worry New Yorkers, the tables are set beautifully, and the kitchen is ready to go. They graciously start you out with a cup of ginger pomegranate tea that is perfect for a cold rainy night, and a very smart palate cleanser. You sip on it, listening to soothing Asian inspired music while perusing the extensive menu. I am always looking for the lower calorie option and ordered the gluten free spring rolls (there are three different kinds) and my BF is always looking for the deep fried option, he ordered the deep fried spring rolls. They were totally different and so delicious. The deep fried spring rolls came with three dipping sauces, cashew cream (to die for) and a homemade chili paste that is so good that I have to take one of her classes (yes she gives cooking classes too) to learn how to make it. Spicy, sweet, perfect! The spring rolls I ordered were fresh and wonderful, with the peanut sauce on top but next time I will order the peanut sauce on the side, not because it wasn't delicious... it was... but because of the calories, better to dip! For the main course my BF ordered a Green Thai Curry with glass noodles and I ordered Thai Basil with Soy Protein. The curry was so good, just the right amount of noodles vs. vegetables, no skimping and the curry sauce is masterful. The basil soy protein was so perfect, the basil was not too overpowering, it was almost like it was scented with basil. The soy protein was an extra treat, gave it a great texture. Order the brown rice it is a beautiful hearty rice with many textures and colors. I asked for a bit of a spicy kick and Chef Kaidee came out and created a spicy pepper sauce right at the table that was really wonderful and wow, hot! She then told us about her travels all over the world, cooking vegan food. I mentioned how happy we are to have her here! We were stuffed but she insisted on a bit of sweet and made us a waffle banana sandwich. The waffle was sweet with a cinnamon flavor, delicious! You know I had to get her cookbook (yes you can buy it there!) and I definitely have to attend the chili paste prep class. Not only is she a world class chef, but a lovely, sweet lady. You must go and try her food! We will be back!

Pros: Relaxing atmosphere, Very reasonable prices, Best Thai food, vegan or not!

Finally! All vegan authentic Thai food!

Ever since Pukk closed, NYC has been begging for an all vegan Thai place. The moment has arrived!

The food at May Kaidee's was excellent and the people are really sweet and welcoming. The dishes had a wonderful individuality to them that many Thai places lack. Got our preferred spice levels just right. And their tea is great!

The restaurant had a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, but that may change when people discover this brand new place, so come quick!

Pros: filling, authentic, quiet

Cons: very new, so still need to perfect details
