Absolutely delicious! - Edit
The khao soi and pad krapaow were the best dishes I have eaten for a very long time. They even made it spicy for me which was a big bonus! Staff were nice and service was fast!

Yummy - Edit
Cozy little restaurant with an amaaaaazing menu and good prices. I tried the massaman curry and this is my first time having it with pumpkin and it was perfect. Lots of veggies, tofu and very creamy.

This place is full of vegan options. Every dish was so flavorful. I really enjoyed every bite. Also everything is so cheap. Staff is really nice and overall it was a good vibe in there.

The best - Edit
Just came back from the May Kaidee and I want some more!!! Not going to lie, when my red curry arrived in a small bowl and with no rice I was a bit dissapointed. But boy was I wrong - two of us had khao soi, red curry and the fresh rolls and it was amazing!!! We sat there after having finished our food and contemplated to order another dish because how good the food was. There was no space in our bellies for more, but it the food tasted toooo good!!! Such a shame we only discovered this place on our last night in Chiang Mai 😔

Best vegan food in Thailand - Edit
I discovered May Kaidee in their sister restaurant Morning Glory 10 years ago. I have been coming to Thailand twice a year just to eat their food. I was sad to see them shut down over the pandemic but am extremely excited to see them reopen this summer.
Read moreEvery dish on the menu is delicious. The pad thai is amazing. The tamarind in the sauce is sometimes picked the day it is cooked into the sauce. Pumpkin hummus is a must try appetizer and the larb (Isaan dish made from organ meat, chilli, citrus) made from mushroom is my personal favorite.
If in Thailand, this is a must visit for all people visiting Chiang Mai.
Pros: Best vegan food in Thailand, Try the pumpkin hummus , Mango with black sticky rice (best in Thailand)

Restaurant & Cooking School near Thapae Gate - Edit
I was very happy to see a reopening after Covit-19 of a well known Chiang Mai Veg restaurant.
Read moreThe reopening is actually a partnership of Mai Kaidee & Morning Glory, which were 2 very similar places in years gone by. The food is pretty much the same, but there is more choice. There is a wide range of Thai food from appetizers to mains, desserts, fruit shakes and a couple of healthy herbal drinks.
I used to be a huge fan of their Spinach Soup which was so well blended, it was smooth and a bit creamy. I must try it again next time. They seem to be open to preparing the food the way you like it, so special requests aren't a problem, if they are not too busy.
The location is the same, just a short walk from Thapae Gate. Prices are very reasonable, almost everything was 70 baht, although rice is not included and is a small add on.
Pros: Great location in old city, Can even something not on the menu, Reasonable price and serving size
Cons: No Tempeh

Awesome food - Edit
Update July 2022: May Kaidee and Morning Glory have combined to form one restaurant, which I though would be great but the food wasn't as good as I remembered. The eggplant salad was more like a stir fry and was drenched in a sweet sauce. The Penang curry tasted great, but it was full of vegetarian sausage and didn't come with rice. I'm missing some of the items they used to have on their old menu. Prices are still great.

One of the best vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai. Almost every dish I have tried has been amazing. Banana flower coconut salad, sausage spread, mushroom spread, red curry, seaweed rolls, vegetarian sausage with peanut sauce - the list is endless. Highly recommend this place.

Slightly disappointing - Edit
My partner had a khao soi without chilli which was a nice change as it meant that I could try some as chilli makes me very sick.
Read moreI had a glass noodle with shiitake mushrooms stir fry, it was a big disappointment. It was very oily and very tasteless. It was like a worse version of the type of glass noodle and veg stir fry that you will often find in a Buddhist Jay restaurant. We have eaten in the mai kaidee in Bkk a number of times and always loved it, I perhaps picked the wrong dish at the wrong time, but still doesn't stop the disappointment of eating a tasteless pile of oily noodles and veg (I ate it all anyway because I hate waste). Would definitely return based on past visits but never order that dish again!
Pros: Nice khao soi without chilli
Cons: Bad glass noodle and shiitake stir fry, Was oily, And tasteless

We're very sorry about your experience. Actually, we closed earlier in the year due to the public health crisis and we think someone went into our old location and tried to operate using our name when you visited last month. We'll look into this further but note that all Thailand May Kaidee locations have been closed long term and we haven't yet determined a reopening date.

Delicious and cheap - Edit
Fortunately located near our guest house, this quickly became a regular haunt. The value for money and punchy flavours brought us back time and time again.
Read morePapaya salad - 70B - one of the stars, super fresh and a good dose of spice.
Fresh spring rolls - 70B - filling and peanutty deliciousness
Fried spring rolls - 70B - filling and much better than your average spring roll, great fillings and yummy sweet chilli dipping sauce.
Glass noodle salad - 70B - was expecting something cold and fresh, but it was more of a hot noodle dish, still yum.
Pad thai -70B - a tad underwhelming given our expectation but a tasty treat nonetheless
Mixed fruit juice - 50B - refreshing
All in all a delightful and cheap eat, though serving sizes are on the slightly smaller size (I ate 2 mains).

Nice place - Edit
Serves some pretty nice food. The veggie spring rolls and the steamed veggies were very nice, and the sauces that come with them were amazing.
Read moreThe mango sticky rice was below par - the mango tasted like it has gone off, or was cut on the same board as durian.
All-in-all very decent food for an affordable price. However if you are trying to avoid too much oil in the diet, you might be limited on the options.
Pros: Veggie rolls, sauces, affordable
Cons: Too much fried stuff
