Serves meat, vegan options available. Separate vegetarian menu which has eggs in some dishes but can be omitted, but there is no dairy in them. Uses no fish sauce. Most of the salads are vegan. The wait staff understands veganism and will be happy to point out numerous choices right away. English spoken well. Cute wooden interior with plants and flowing water. Open Mon-Sun 11:00am-11:00pm.

Scrumpteous vegan options - Edit
The vegan options are very delicious and clearly marked on the menue which is pretty convenient. The restaurant is very green with lots of plants and a little water basin in the back. The kittens roaming around the place are shy but friendly

Dinner - Edit
Perhaps I've had tea leaf salad too many times before. The leaves were dried rather than
Read moreThe service was poor. Not his fault but the waiter spoke limited English, so I tried Thai, he didn't speak Thai either so it made things a little complicated as despite pointing to the menu he still didn't understand we wanted vegetarian dishes. It was one of the few meat serving places we went to on the trip and reminded me why I stick mainly to vegetarian establishments.
It's a shame as it marred what was otherwise a pleasant meal.

family dinner - Edit
I was on holiday with my omni brothers in Chiang Mai so on the look out for veg friendly places with options we'd all enjoy. If you're in a similar situation, I can recommend The Swan.
Read moreMy husband and I shared the potato and tofu balls, which were subtly flavoured but satisfying. The eggplant salad was interesting and delicious - the small green eggplants were raw and crisp. I can't remember the name of the tofu dish with the herb sauce - the small cubes of tofu absorbed the flavours well but I didn't really enjoy the pool of oil that was left on the plate.
The only Burmese food I'd tried before was tea leaf salad so it was fun to try some new, unique dishes.

Expected more out of this place - Edit
The food was OK here, tea leaf salad was tasty but the rest was really below what Burmese kitchen can do. Prices are high for the portions and quality you get. Needs improvement to live up to the true Yangon experience.

Great selection of Burmese dishes - Edit
Tried the vegetarian gar jii gai (no egg). Looked just like a pad Thai but it was bright yellow and had a curry/turmeric undertone (which meant it tasted nothing like pad Thai). It was a nice change to the masses of Thai food I've been eating. Great portion size, good price.

Vegan Meet Up - Edit
I hosted a vegan dinner at The Swan this past week. Here's a summary of my feedback and the feedback I overheard from others:
Read moreThe restaurant was very spacious, with plenty of seating to accommodate our large group, and the staff was very kind and accommodating. There wasn't a vegan menu or vegan indicator on the menu, but some dishes were vegan and most could be made vegan upon request. We ended up having many more people attend than originally anticipated, so the restaurant got a bit overwhelmed and orders took much longer to come out than expected. That's understandable considering the unexpected customer volume, but worth noting. Some people received a different dish than what they ordered. There was also inconsistency in levels of spice--some people were asked if they wanted it spicy while others were not asked, and there was a wide variety of spiciness in the dishes presented. The restaurant only had one dessert listed on their menu, and they were out of that dessert. Some people thought the portion sizes were small, and some remarked about the higher prices compared to other Burmese restaurants. Overall, when it comes to taste, everyone agreed the food was delicious!
Pros: Delicious food, Many vegetarian options; most can be made vegan, Spacious, lots of comfortable seating
Cons: Long wait time, Incorrect orders/out of some things, Small portion sizes/questionable value for money

This was the find of our few days in Chiang Mai. The best!! - Edit
We had a couple of days in Chiang Mai during the period of the world wide Covid outbreak. This place had the most customers of any of the restaurants we ate at while there, and we found out why.
Read moreThe setting is very pleasant. Get a seat at the back of the restaurant if you can. NB: the place closes on Mondays during the present situation but that is likely to change when thins get back to normal.
The food is just stunning. We went twice. The first night we ordered salads for starters but just when you think you have explained the concept they came with the main meal. The Yam Tua (broadbeans) was our favourite. The Parang Ma Nai was tasty but a little dry. I then had Ner Lung, which were described as veggie tofu meatballs with potatoes
On the second night we had a mix of dishes including Yam Tua, vegetable tempura (bigger than looks on the menu, Thai fried mixed vegetables and what was called Hinlay curry. We loved it all but the curry was stunning.
Because of the lack of tourists, they told me that they were unable to serve wine but had a full stock of beers and spirits.
Based on the meals, the quantity and most of all ... the quality, I was expecting to have to pay far more than I was finally charged. If you are visiting Chiang Mai, makes this place a must visit.
Pros: The quality of the food, Extensive veggie range , Value for money
Cons: Had no wine we visited

Delicious & Great Service - Edit
I got the green tea leaf salad and it was delicious. It felt so fresh and the flavours were great. My boyfriend had Sar Pia with tofu and this was also very good. Lots of veggie and vegan options and the service was super quick although it was pretty quiet. If you’ve never tried Burmese food I would definitely recommend a visit!

I ordered delivery couple of times and their salads were always spot on. Authentic taste and consistent quality. For a westerner, discovering Burmese salads is really fun and exciting experience. Easy to order from foodpanda. Highly recommended.

Burmese restaurant with vego options - Edit
I called into The Swan Burmese Cuisine restaurant on a very busy Wednesday evening and chose 1 of the only 2 vacant tables ... the table was located next to the cashier so I grabbed a menu, chose massaman curry and rice (฿130), ordered (clarified dietary requirements) and settled in for a wait however the food arrived in less than 10 minutes ... the massaman curry was really delicious and both the presentation and quantity of the food was very good ... the staff were polite and friendly and were efficient considering every table in the restaurant was occupied with up to 6 people per table

Good for Burmese Food - Edit
The Swan sells Thai food and unique Burmese food. A lot of places in Chiang Mai sell one or two Burmese dishes but this place has a whole load of them. They have lots of different varieties of salads and they are all vegan or are at least able to be made vegan easily. They are very tasty.
Read moreThey do vegan curries as well but they can be quite oily.
They are open until late, they sell alcohol and there is a lively atmosphere.
Decoration is pleasant. The restaurant is popular but large enough to fit a fair amount of people.
The service can be hit and miss.
