Cute central japanese restaurant - Edit
They have lots of vegan options mentioned on the menu. My friend and I had an avocado and inarisushi onigiri and I had a tofu don (fried tofu with a few fresh veggies and a sweet sauce on rice). The waiters were friendly and the food tasted great! You can also go there to just buy onigiris to go. There were up to 4 vegan options, but sometimes some are sold out.
Read moreOnly minus point was that all the waiters did their lunch break around the time when we wanted to pay, so we went to the counter to pay which was not a big issue for us.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Cute japanese style restaurant

Kleines, feines Restaurant - Edit

Cute place with good vegan options - Edit
It is not easy to find restaurants that offer onigiri and even harder if you're vegan, so I was very happy to give Matcha Komachi's plum and avocado onigiri a try (the 2 vegan options)- both very tasty. I enjoyed them together with some matcha tea and some moji with red bean filling. The owners managed to create just the right atmosphere, too (the interior was very kawaii in every aspect :-)). The place is very busy at lunchtime and I recommend making a reservation.

Not worth it - Edit
I really wanted to like this place. Stopped there for a lunch, some cakes and coffee/tea.
Read moreMochi, sushi, miso soup and matcha latte. The food was average at best.
I double checked that matcha was made with soy milk. They said yes. I drank it. Half an hour later I'm in serious stomach pain which is kind of ruining the day. I can not prove it, but I have a very strong suspicion that it was dairy, as I don't tolerate it anymore and I eat all of the other ingredients on the regular basis. I'd never go back, just as a precaution.

Doesn’t live up to the hype - Edit
I remember visiting this place a few years ago and not being too impressed. Trying again now, I have to say that hasn’t really changed.
Read moreFrom the outside, it looks likeable enough, but furnishings are actually quite barebones (think IKEA rather than minimalist). Nothing wrong with that, but the prices are simply too high for what you get.
I had the Tofu-Don which costs 10 euros and was literally just tofu on top of rice with some spring onions. That’s it. The taste wasn’t particularly impressive, either, although I did enjoy the small miso soup that came with it.
Also had iced Matcha Latte, which again failed to impress me. It was lukewarm and the taste was underdeveloped (if you want matcha, there’s a much better place closer to Naschmarkt, in between the Japanese and Korean grocery stores).
Service again was not remarkable, I didn’t find the lady especially friendly and I had to wait like 15-20 minutes before she first turned up. That being said, after taking my order, food was prepared and delivered very quickly (ca. 5 minutes).
Pros: Has some vegan options (Udon, Tofu-Don, onigiri), Central location
Cons: Overpriced for what you get, Food was pleasant enough but a bit bland, Lacks atmosphere, service so-so

Amazing - Edit
I don’t unterstand why there aren’t more reviews here. This place deserves more attention. I spent one day in Vienna and went two times to Matcha Komachi. The food was amazing! The Matcha Latte was probably the best I ever had. The staff is very friendly. You should definitely make a reservation in the evening.

Ramen was very tasty, had amazing noodles, and the tofu was so soft and silky! I've never had anything like it.

very vegan friendly and delicious! - Edit
Great quality food, many vegan options, all marked - sushi, soups, hot rice dish and a dessert called mochi in four different flavours! we had all three soups plus inari sushi and seaweed and cucumber salad - and all was great! finished off with daifuku mochi which didn't dissapoint either. We ended up visiting there again the next day and took take aways to the airport! should book room in the evening. plus great atmosphere alltogether!

i enjoy Matcha Komachi as they offer high quality tasty food. the interior is nicely decorated, sitting inside is really cozy.
Read morethere are quite a lot of vegan options and they are clearly communicated. the portion sizes are rather small, so it's a bit on the expensive side.
they also offer onigiri to go with a bonus card (i think buy 10, get 1 for free).

Tasty food, but... - Edit
Very authentic Japanese place near the center of Vienna. Atmosphere wise it is very unique and nicely done, from the decorations and the clothing of the workers. Food wise, we tried the cold noodle dish with tofu and the a udon tofu soup from which both tasted nice and were presented very caring. As an entree we had a seaweed salad with sesame seeds which was a nice surprise, tasted different but very good and very refreshing. With dessert there was a bit of a confusion, since I wanted to order a matcha cake. Every dish is listed with allergens and clearly says if it's vegan or vegetarian, except the cake. I asked and first got a confirmation it was vegan then they changed their mind saying it's not because of the milk. I settled with the best thing Japan ever created, a mochi ball filled with cherry paste, beautifully presented and tasting wonderfully. You can clearly taste the difference as the quality of the food is really high. For the service, it wasn't the best. The waitress seemed annoyed and confused, bringing a wrong meal and not being terribly well informed about the ingredients. The price is also high and the portions are small but taste wise very good. It's a place that's interesting to experience but not something to revisit.
