Marcello's vegan family in Rome run Rifugio Romano which also offers vegan dishes and is where the recipes come from. Vegan dishes inlcude seitan & porcini escalopes, lasagne with vegan mince, white sauce & cheese, mince stuffed tortellini, meat balls & spaghetti, pizza with vegan cheese, garlic breads, ice cream, apple & banana cake and an Eton Mess. Open Mon-Thu 17:00-22:00, Fri-Sun 13:00-22:00.

Perfect for Cork. - Edit
Great option in Douglas. But since had gone very downhill on the quality of vegan food. Used to be our go-to place. May be chef/manager change, but who cares? I'm inot going back now.

Went here for a birthday meal a couple of weeks ago. So happy to have so many vegan options to choose from for wine, starters, mains and desserts! Got the arancini which were so good and the tofu tortilini for main.

This is such a lovely restaurant. There is a full vegan menu including starters, mains and deserts, and vegan daily specials. Vegan wines are clearly labelled.

I'm Italian and I couldn't not to try a real Italian restaurant with vegan options. They have the vegan lasagna, the homemade tortellini and ravioli, pizza, seitan and also vegan desserts! A vegan heaven! Recommended

Insanely Good Food! - Edit
Whoa. Picked this place on a lark after Happy Cow was slow to load on my international phone and my husband and I joked about our first meal in Ireland being Italian food. This is the real deal. I knew it was going to be good when I walked in and realized the entire staff spoke Italian.
Read moreThey have an entire vegan menu!!! Everything from pizza to tortellini to calzones to spaghetti and meatballs. Not to mention the vegan appetizers, salads, desserts, and wines.
I had the tortellini and my hubby had an omni meal and we were both trilled with our selections. On top of all that the staff is warm and inviting and truly seems to love having people there. I can't possibly recommend this place enough and if Happy Cow would let me I would give it 5 stars.

This is some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had. Get the garlic bread, we ordered 2!!! Had the porcini seitan and tortellini and shared because it was too good not to. When we come back we will eat here again ❤️

I got the vegan lasagne and they gave me garlic bread with it. The garlic butter tasted so good and the lasagne tasted great!! It was ready to collect in 15 minutes and everyone was super nice😄will definitely be going back

A must for any vegans in the area!! I walked over an hour to get there and was well worth it. They have an extensive vegan menu, I got the tortellini which was some of the best food (vegan or otherwise) that I’ve ever had. Then to top it off I had to try the chocolate cake which was so decadent and delicious. Highly highly recommend

I was in Cork for work and went there three days it was so good. Separate vegan menu with so many options. I had the seitan with porcini sauce the first day, so yummy I ordered extra vegetables. Then I had the no meat, soy and veg meatballs, with pasta and garlic bread. The third day I had the vegan antipasto for lunch, arincini, bruschetta, vegan cheese and meats. Fabulous lunch. Got the chocolate cake to take away.

Besides their regular menu, Marcello's offers a separate vegan menu with over 10 starters and 13(!) main courses. Everything is very delicious and it tasted very authentique! I will be back!

Delicious homemade vegan pasta - Edit
Marcello is a lovely business owner who cares about his guests. His homemade pasta is incredible, the homemade seitan was so delicate and with a yummy porcini sauce. The pizza wasn't for me as I am all for a thick based but he provided vegan cheese which was thoughtful :) A full vegan menu is something that has got to be supported as that means there is even vegan cake ;-)

Entire Vegan Menu! - Edit
Marcello's of Douglas is a great spot if you are wanting authentic Italian food. They have a separate vegan menu, which you have to ask for. I ordered the tortellini, which was the best tortellini I have ever had, and would highly recommend it. My partner ordered the seitan porcini, which was incredible! It had such complex and well-balanced flavours! We also ordered the bruschetta, which was a good way to start the meal, although in the future I may skip it.
Read moreAfter our meal, we met Marcello, as he happened to be who took our payment. He was incredibly nice and had us taste a vegan pudding he had just made, as well as a melon sorbet. He explained his family in Italy are vegan and run a successful vegan restaurant, so he understands how to make Italian food vegan. He clearly does it very well! I will certainly be back to sample more items from the vegan menu.

It's clear that all dishes are made by an Italian cooking style.
I recommend this restaurant for the very large vegan menu and especially for the family atmosphere.

Crazy to me there is only one review on here. Who doesn't love Italian food?? Extensive separate vegan menu and it's fantastic. Don't know where they get their vegan cheese from, but it was so good we had to double check they didn't mess up our order. It's worth it to come outside a little from Cork.

No stereo types here then! Seriously though, I simply HAD to submit Marcello's for the lovely Happy Cow crew to feature. Marcello is a fantastic Chef and his restaurant was nominated for Best Casual Dining 2016. With a vegan family he 'gets' what vegans want. And why! GO taste his personal recommendation 'Seitan Escalopes & Porcini' and a delighted "Mamma Mia!" will burst naturally forth 😀
