Lovely vegan platter - Edit
They serve perfect hummus and crispy falafel, along with lots of other Arab food. The vegan sharing platter is brilliant and allows you to try most of their options at once

Okay…… - Edit
We went to Mahmouds for lunch and it was disappointing.
Read moreI requested the Mezze platter vegan, but got a a cheesy tasting dip and one with yoghurt. The falafel were good but not great, I had way better hummus before, the rest lacked taste…
All in all I wouldn’t recommend it.
Pros: Good Falafel
Cons: Can’t be sure its vegan, Very loud music, Unfriendly staff

Fast-food - Edit
This place looked so good on this website that I decided to check it out. I was very disappointed by what I discovered.
Read moreI guess the place is fine if you like fast-food that is slightly better than a regular cafeteria and if you don't need a clean and nice place to eat it in. Also, if you don't need to be sure your meal is 100% vegan or don't need to know every ingredient.
The staff is too hurried to have a conversation with and not all of the staff knows the difference between vegetarian and vegan. Because of an earlier review about getting a yogurt dip on the plate, I was on my guard and indeed, I got the yogurt dip too. I asked the guy serving me 'Is this vegan?' and he said 'Yes, yes' while the guy from the background came over, took the plate away, pointing to the dip and hurriedly spoke to the first guy. I got a new plate but I was still a bit wary of the sauces that I got on it without asking me if I wanted them.
The meal itself was... Well, the falafel itself was the only good thing. The hummus? I've tasted better hummus from the supermarket. The avocado hummus? Way too much lemon juice. The salads? Too much rucola that was also very bitter. Sweet potato fries? Too salty.
The place itself was a bit like a cafeteria. Most of the food, like the salads and dips, are pre-made and on display. You place your order at the counter and wait at the side until you receive it. Due to the lines that created, in combination with the small pathways, the place felt a bit crowded. Because the staff doesn't come over to the other side of the counter, the place had a few abandoned plates in the corners, and felt a bit dirty overall (the toilets weren't very clean as well). It was also drafty and cold because the front door was always open, something I don't approve of anyway because the heating the place needs is not environmental-friendly.
Another thing is that my Dutch payment card, nor my credit card, were acceptable card types to pay with. Sigh. Germany, Germany... One always needs to have cash in this country.
Overall, this was definitely not the experience I had in mind when I decided to eat here. I'm aware that this place is fine for a lot of people; I apparently am not one of them. I like a bit more quality and service when I eat out, thank you very much. I also like a meal that is better than or different from the meals I make at home, and sadly this meal fell short.
Pros: price/quality ratio, fast service
Cons: noisy, crowdy & dirty, not all staff knows the meaning of 'vegan', doesn't accept most international payment cards

Great hummus and falafel - Edit
They have a shared vegan/vegetarian menu. We forgot to mention that we wanted to eat vegan and got some yogurt on top (might have been vegan, but we are unsure, so rather let them know in advance). But the food was very good!

Good option for dinner - Edit
It’s a large space where you can sit inside (or outside in warmer weather) there is a menu titled vegan/vegetarian so we asked what was vegan in that menu and he said everything. I had felafel with hummus and my partner had felafel with baba ganoush. You get 3 felafels with salads and dips. They were both nice.

Outstanding falafel - Edit
We loved the falafel wrap so much that we got it twice during our visit. The first night, we had a falafel wrap and a falafel bowl, and they were both wonderful. We got wraps the second time because they were easy for us to eat on the run. I don’t know how we didn’t get pictures!

Delicious - Edit
I got the Kombiteller twice. It costs 8.50eur and you get a lot for it: 3 falafel balls, some hummus and dips as well as two different salads. It tasted great and fast. Service is fast. About 3 tables inside and 8 outside.

Nice place - Edit
A good place with a lot of vegan options. Tasty, clean and price is reasonable. Menu can be confusing though because it does not distinct between vegan and vegetarian clearly, but no problem if read carefully. In doubt, the staff can point out vegan options competently.

Falafel gut - Edit

They know exactly what vegan is and what's not, so that's nice.

lovely interior, friendly staff who knew instantly what was vegan and what was not. Had vegan falafel wraps which were very tasty - good amount of sauce, hummus, salad and tasty falafel, in lovely toasted wraps. Would recommend for a tasty, filling, cheap lunch in Heidelberg!

Nice setting, friendly staff, vegan menu section - Edit
Mahmoud's has a section on the menu which is only vegan dishes, as well as the classic falafel wrap. We tried one falafel wrap and one of the mixed dishes and it was all delicious. The place is very new and state of the art and the staff was super friendly. The prices were also very fair, with 3.50 for a wrap up to about 6 for a mixed plate.
