Sad Demise of an Excellent Place - Edit
Update: unconfirmed new management. Closes frequently. Suspect that staff don’t know what vegan means so use caution or skip altogether…
Read moreOriginal Review:
Maharaja’s Foods has definitely become my new favorite place- the food is always exceptional with an incredible variety of dishes that changes up daily. The owner is a one-man show who is full of energy and very clearly passionate about his work. Usually there’s only 1 or 2 non-vegan options otherwise the rest is vegan. I love that there’s vegan naan or vegan roti. I’d highly recommend stopping by. There have been multiple occasions we’ve stopped by to find it closed and it’s not posted online anywhere, so don’t rely on this place for food if you’re looking for one spot in the area.

Excellent variety - Edit
I love Indian food and was really excited to give this a try. The food is served buffet-style and charged by the pound. Many options available and the flavor was very good. I enjoyed the opportunity to try different dishes but wish I had more control of the portions dished up. Since you pay by weight I may have gone with smaller scoops if I were doing it myself. Overall a very filling and delicious meal. One more thing - I see this is listed as vegetarian with vegan options. For what it’s worth, when I went in I was told that everything on their buffet was vegan. Enjoy!

The cook who I suspect was also the owner was very friendly, described every dish and let me taste everything. You could tell he does this with his heart. We also got a free book with recipes which I'm stoked to read.

A Weekly Staple - Edit
I visit here at least once a week. Nine times out of 10 the food is amazing. They are always willing to explain everything to those unfamiliar with Indian food, and are very careful with labeling what is vegan rather than vegetarian.
Read moreThe staff is incredibly friendly, and the limited menu changes regularly. The only times I've ever been disappointed are when they use specific ingredients I can't stand, like bitter melon or okra. Which, by the way, I will still occasionally try because they are such wizards with their food: if anybody can make those things palatable, it's them.
While their rices are delicious, I tend to avoid them because the food is charged buffet style by the pound, and I don't think, for me, that rice has an efficient cost-to-satiation ratio. I'd much rather weigh my plate down with their absolutely amazing roast potatoes.
Seriously, if ever it's a week where they have their roasted potatoes, just fill your whole plate with them, you won't regret it.
As an aside, they also periodically stock different cooking ingredients from India that are otherwise very difficult to find. So if you want to go home and make your own creations, they are an excellent resource for that.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Clear labels, Helpful staff

Excellent food, Friendly Owner - Edit
Went there for the first time today and loved the food. When we came in we were greeted by the owner and given a tour of the buffet. He was nice enough to point out his personal favorites as he went. We tried five or more of the dishes and got a samosa as well and wow was it good! The price is very reasonable, too, at $7.40 per pound. And, as I said before, the owner is super friendly and helpful. We are definitely coming back next weekend.

Yummy vegan options buffet-style - Edit
We are so happy we had the opportunity to find this place on our way back from getting a tree today. Almost everything was vegan and we tasted all of those options. We will definitely be back!! So hard to find great Indian vegan options on Oahu... until now!! The chef was so friendly as well. He explained what everything was.

Amazing little hole in the wall in Wahiawa with fresh vegetarian and vegan buffet. Worth the drive from town alone. Really good samosas and fresh baked cookies too. The guys behind the counter are super friendly.

A must try on your way to North shore. Biodegradable takeout containers is a plus. Also 7.40 a lb is very reasonable for Hawaii and delicious to boot.

Delicious, affordable, fresh comfort food - Edit
$7.40 per lb buffet with almost all vegan options (only exception was the semolina cake), cooked fresh daily w/ rotating menu. Came with a large group just as the restaurant opened after spending a morning at the botanical garden - naan was literally steaming fresh from the oven, and we picked up some organic avocados & baby bananas on the way out
