5⭐️ Oui Madame
Madame K’s has become a mainstay of the Melbourne vegan restaurant landscape. At one stage it was successful enough to have three restaurants in Greater Melbourne, but alas Covid and the recession shut down the one in Williamstown. The flagship restaurant has a warm and attractive ambience. It’s often quiet and on the few occasions I’ve booked, at least in the last few years, it hasn’t been necessary. After years of living in the neighbourhood there isn’t a thing in the menu I haven’t tried, but standouts for me are the green curry, with whatever meat, but preferably tofu; the lamb sliders (a hot favourite I believe). The massaman curry, while bit sweeter, has the delicious and chunky mushroom l*mb in it, which makes it a treat. The salads are good too, most of them pretty spicy. I enjoy the roast chick*n and crispy pr*wn ones particularly, for reasons apparent in their names. Madame’s nasi goreng is not only deliciously umami, but comes with trademark skewered meat I haven’t seen anywhere else. Desserts are good too, particularly the mango sticky rice and the banana fritter, or ‘t*rd on the lawn’ as I affectionately know it in reference to its colour, shape and banana leaf platter. Prices are lower than just about any comparable place I know. If you’re dining out in the Fitzroy area, come here and keep this essential Melbourne vegan restaurant open.

Oui, Madame ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
It was a treat to eat out again at Madame K.'s after the lockdown and we've been here a couple of times since it opened up. We were surprised we got a seat fairly easily, particularly the first time when we went early on the first evening restaurants were open again. The updated menu has a few new items I hadn't tried before like the crispy chicken and the Japanese tofu - both delicious - as well as hot favourites like the green curry, the pork and Chinese broccoli, and, of course, the nasi goreng: it was great to eat the satay chicken off the skewer again. Prices and serving sizes are decent; staff are lovely in spite of sometimes being run off their feet; and the pleasant setting makes very nice dining experience.

Excellent food - Edit
I went on a Saturday night so I booked a table but there were a few tables available. My friend and I shared entrees of duck pancakes and the chive dumplings, both favourites of mine. They were delicious as usual. I had the tofu with red curry paste and capsicum. I liked the tofu, and the flavour was nice but it wasn’t my favourite curry from there. It is served with rice too. Staff were nice and the restaurant is comfortable

Decent spot for dinner - Edit
The food was very good but the service was kind of slow. 25 minutes passed between finishing dinner and being served dessert even though I was one of only three occupied tables in the restaurant. It was in a fun neighborhood to visit

We had food delivered to our hotel twice. We eat vegan gluten-free and we’re thrilled with the food we had. Fresh, tasty, good variety. We had laksa, miso glazed eggplant, Tom Yum soup, coconut rice and the Gado Gado. Highly recommend.

YUMM! - Edit
Came back and everything we chose was delicious.
Read moreThe pad thai was SOO GOOD, not overly sweet like most places.
Rad Na was new on the menu and delicious, kind of like a Hor Fun.
The duck wraps were delicious as always.
Sadly, they were soo quiet, I hope it picks up, as it's the best Thai place.
- pad see ew: DELISH, amazing pork slices, nice charring
- tom yum: DELISH, perfect flavours, lemongrass etc
- pork mince w/rice (pad krapow moo): strong bamboo flavour, don't like it, bit spicy, prefer it with just pork
- green curry fried rice: ok, very subtle, hainese chikn looking pieces
- Banana roti w/ice cream: the icecream had pieces of fresh coconut throughout and omg it was SO GOOD
---
It's been years since I've eaten at Madame K's in Brunswick St (have been to the city, and now defunct Williamstown location in the meantime).
I used to love it so much, especially their duck wraps.
I tried something I'd never heard of, Nam Sai Moo Noodle, as upon Googling, found it's meant to be similar to pho. The broth was too salty, I would have liked to have more of the other flavours shine through. The thin glass noodles, tofu, and vegetables were really nice though.
We also got the roti with satay sauce, which was quite spicy!
For dessert, we had the banana tempura, which was not very good at all. The batter was fairly thick, the bananas were incredibly soft, like a mashed banana texture, and there was barely any taste to it, and only a TINY drizzle of maple syrup which was the only flavour. I had to really scrape the plate to soak up the maple syrup.
I would still come back to try other noodle dishes.

Amazing Food - Edit
They have been one of my favourites for a decade but my visit last week was incredible. They have many exciting new dishes as well as our old favourites. Service was excellent, food was phenomenal. I recommend the chicken satay skewers, Thai spicy salad and the Massaman Curry. We also had the new pork belly dish. Wildly realistic!

I ordered everything as a takeaway using Menulog. The food was incredible!! So fresh, big portions and I loved the extra caution put into packaging my Thai green curry so it wouldn’t leak everywhere hehe
Read moreI ordered the
-Thai green curry with tofu and tempeh: the tofu and tempeh were soooo flavourful, just wish there was more tempeh. I ordered extra steamed veg on the side to add to my curry too. Rice came with it too.
-Marinated wheat protein “chicken” skewers with Satay sauce. This was incredible, so original and filling. Not very oily either!!!
-duck pancakes: these were good too! The sweet hoisin sauce was yum
I’ll be back to check out the restaurant in person soon! Thank you :))
Pros: Original and exciting dishes, So many mock meat alternatives, Very good value for money

Very Tasty Indeed - Edit
Went to the Madame K’s Fitzroy and had an excellent meal. We don’t often get to eat mock meats and so this was a treat. We each had a separate dish and shared. Service was friendly and the place was attractive except the noise carried a bit. May go again before we leave Melbourne.

Delicious food but smaller portions for delivery. - Edit
We ordered a couple of soups from here, the Tom Yum and the Tom Kha. Both of these were absolutely delicious! Mushrooms, enoki, tomato, mixed tofu in the Tom Kha were all very tasty. My only issue is I wish the portions were a bit bigger as I'd like to have had a soup as a main rather than an entree.
Read moreWe also ordered the Cashew and veggie stir fry which came with mixed veggies, tofu, cashews and a sweet sauce. They also include rice with this dish which made it a little more filling. Again, I wish the potion size was a bit more generous, we only got 4 pieces of tofu and the dish was only half full of veggies, which is a shame as it was absolutely delicious.
We did order a side of steamed veggies too which had extra veggies not included in any of the other dishes such as cabbage and baby corn. Baby corn worked well in each of the dishes (as we split the veggies between them) and I wish came in those dishes as standard.
On the side we got the lamb sliders - mock lamb with salad mix and a tangy and slightly sweet cashew sauce with crushed cashews all wrapped up in a roti. These were so good. So good I wish we'd ordered two portions. I think a portion of sauce to go with them would have been perfect, either a cashew or spicy satay type dip.
We also tried the crispy prawns - delectable. Usually fried foods are soggy on delivery however these has such crispy crunchy tempra style batter on and were still warm with great texture when they arrived. They went very nicely with the vegan mayo.
All in all a very delicious meal, however I do with either the portions were bigger or the prices were slightly less. We were feeling delicate so the food lasted a little while however on a good day we would have smashed it all in 10 mins. Perhaps done in option has more generous amounts.
Pros: Delicious flavours., Travels well for delivery food.
Cons: Smaller portion sizes.

Average. Don’t order curry - Edit
I had the lamb slider and the penang curry with tofu. The lamb slider was good (decent roti) but the curry was below average. I didn’t bother to eat it. It’s good to have thai curry without shrimp paste but it was very watery and not very authentic tasting. Pretty bland. I can make better at home which is a bad sign!
