I wanted to like it - Edit
The only thing I would suggest that was good was the general Tso’s chicken. The pork lo mein was not good. The beef and broccoli was bland. Then the duck sauce had no sweetness to it at all. It should be called sour sauce. Unfortunately, I will not be going here again. I don’t get how people are reviewing this 5 stars. The rice wasn’t even good. Not trying to be mean but I thought with almost 5 stars it would be great. I wish I could say it was. My entire family all just ate the general tsos the rest went into the garbage.

love them - Edit
Lucky Garden has been here since I was a kid, maybe longer. Everyone has their favorite Chinese restaurant and I can't knock that, but you really cannot beat this place. Getting tofu dishes around these parts is fairly rare, and there are a couple good ones on the menu. Often, I'll just order some lo mein with no oyster sauce. There's a gorgeous view of the Kennebec inside if you eat in, but I live one street up, so I don't really get the chance. Takeout is super fast, though! Honestly, there's something here for everyone in that classic American Chinese food style that ends up being exactly what you want.

thank goodness for Lucky Garden - Edit
While passing through Hallowell we stopped at the cafe listed on HappyCow for lunch, and found absolutely nothing suitable for a vegan meal, so we left. On our way out of town we noticed Lucky Garden, turned around, and checked out their menu. There were plenty of tofu and vegetable choices, and brown rice, so we stayed for lunch. There is a lunch buffet every day, and it seems most diners do not order off the menu at lunch, so it took a little while for our meals to arrive. The slight wait was well worth the meal and the view. I ordered broccoli and tofu with garlic sauce, and had plenty to take home with me for later. The meal was not at all expensive. If I am back in Hallowell this will be my meal stop. Service was very friendly and accommodating.
