Located in the heart of Maastricht, you can find this little cafe.
Read moreI went there during lunchtime and the vegan options were very limited. There are maybe 2 vegan options which is not nearly enough in my opinion.
I got the vegan lunch duo which consist of soup, bread and vegan croquette. It was okay but nothing special.
I suggest going during dinner time because you’ll have more vegan options to choose from ( like fish & chips etc…)
Friendly and helpful staff and very fast service.
Prices are a bit expensive for what you get though.

In my experience in the Netherlands comparing to Germany, normally I expect that less food is served. But this one stands out and a main dish without staters would be more than enough for me.

Leuke bediening die je graag helpt met je dieetwensen.
Als con (moeten toch helaas altijd ook kritisch blijven ;)); er waren geen symbooltjes voor vegan gerechten, dus alleen de vega gerechten. Maar goed. Gelukkig staat er over het algemeen wel “vegan” in de titel en spreekt het anders wel voor zich.

They have some vegan options (labelled), which are quite unusual. I had a "Lunchduo" which was a soup with a piece of bread and a croquette and it was OK. Very good, centric location.

Really enjoyed Local. The croquettes are extremely good, amazing crunch and loved the flavour. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to going back. Dog friendly.

Vegan 'zoervleis', traditional meal - Edit
They served vegan fish and chips and vegan 'zoervleis' ('sour meat') which is a traditional meal in the region. I had the latter and I liked it! Nice to have tasted this, apparently it's a spiced stew. They also had vegan apple crumble as a dessert option.

They only had 2 vegan main courses and some vegan snacks, although they were not clearly marked (only vegetarian markings).

We went to "Local" because we wanted to taste some "Dutch food". We took "fish and chips" since we didn't see other vegan option on the menu (we didn't ask to make vegetarian's plates into vegan's ones, maybe this is possible). Fish and chips was delicious though!

There was a nice atmosphere. The place is popular and therefor crowded. There where some vegan options in the menu but it was not much. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The white sauce in a seperate bowl from the nachos really tasted like dairy though. We asked the waiter whether it was vegan and after having went to the kitchen he came back with a mayo sauce that was said to be vegan and apologised for the mistake.
As main dishes we had the Zoervleis (a sort of sweet stew in brown sauce) and the 'fish and chips'.
The 'Zoervleis' is listed as vega (vegetarian) on the menu, but was said to be vegan. Was OK.
Nice salad on the side. But it did contain a white dressing, so after the mistake earlier, did make us doubt whether this was vegan?
The 'Fish' is a breaded filet. Lots of fries and a salad.
We had a nice lunch, relaxed on the terrace. Friendly service. Nice to see some other vegan options than the burgers, sweet potato fries or quinia/avocado salads which are more common.
Interior is not accessible and toilets are upstairs, via a very steep and turning set of stairs.

Tasty Dutch vegan food - Edit
While the menu doesn’t have a huge selection of vegan options, we appreciate when restaurants offer local cuisine with a vegan twist. The soup and croquet were tasty and the bitterballen portion was bigger than expected.

I did go there to try the vegan zoervleis. It was good but I think I don't like zoervleis 😂 Other than that it is a nice place with a nice view. Oh, and I tried the nonalcoholic Hugo, the syrup tasted really sweet and artificial.
