New operator/chef/menu/concept - Edit
The restaurant still falls under the Lento name, but it's food concept has changed drastically from the one in Hasselt. Previously the food was refined, original and really had an upscale feel to it with careful and beautiful plating. The menu was fixed, with 2 choices of main courses. We went there numerous times and were never disappointed.
Read moreWith the new concept, the food was more in line with the rest of the restaurants in the street: more touristy, less refined and a Mediterranean style menu. The courses were vegan versions of more traditional dishes, like vegan steak, no fish filet or chicken gyros. A lot of fried food as well. The side salads were really bowls of salad with tomato and some sauce. Some of the food was a bit bland. And there was no fine plating at all. The portions were really large, and since we followed the menu's advice on a starter, main plate and 2 side dishes, none of us could finish what we ordered.
Although there really is a place for food like this, and I applaud every restaurant on offering a 100% vegan menu, it just wasn't what we were expecting. Also, for the food that we got, the price was really too high. 29E for the vegan steak was really stretching it.
We will probably come back, when we want a more traditional meal, and keep it to only a main plate. The chicken gyros was really tasty, and the vegan steak at least interesting to try.
The staff was really friendly, and they didn't change anything in the very cozy decoration and style of the restaurant.

Ja we waren wat verrast door de recente negatieve reviews, maar omdat we er al enkele keren geweest waren hebben we daar niet veel aandacht aan geschonken. Ook het feit dat de naam van de locatie veranderd is naar ‘Bistro 44’ op de website van Lento hadden we een beetje genegeerd. Pas bij de kaart en het serveren van het eten hadden we pas door hoe fel het veranderd is, en het een heel ander soort restaurant is geworden. Ik hoop voor hun dat ze in de huidige vorm kunnen blijven bestaan. Maar ik vrees dat een hoop anciens van een kale reis gaan terugkomen. Nu ja, duidelijk was de vorige vorm ook niet leefbaar voor het Lento team.

A bit too expensive for the type of food served - Edit
The atmosphere was great and the food tasted good, but it was nothing like the pictures posted in terms of presentation and innovation. The service was wonderful and the wine was also tasty. I think however the prices follow more the location (very touristy part of Antwerpen) rather than the food. Think of it as a three star food restaurant in relation to price paid with a five star service and location.

Read moreThe food was either bland or tasted strongly of additives. The grilled watermelon: 5 small bites for 16,50, it was good but nothing extraordinary. The mushroom croquettes didn't taste of mushrooms, not did they have any mushroom bit for texture. The albondigas: the texture was fine, the taste was just too much. The tomato sauce was strongly flavoured with some type of additives, you lost any flavour of the products themselves...
For the price paid I was disappointed that the work on the produce was so limited.

Good food but expected more - Edit
Went here for a dinner on a Sunday night. From reviews and previous pictures we expected something more gastronomic but dishes seemed to be much more simple than previously served. Menu largely consisted of dishes like a burger, pasta and fried snacks. We thought prices were therefore a bit on the high side. (26-28 euros for a pasta dish)
Read moreEverything tasted delicious though, it just didn't come close to the expectations we had so we were a bit disappointed on that front. Service was super friendly as well.
One big complaint was that two of us sat with our backs way too close to other guests. I constantly had to be aware not to lean back too much. Doesn't make for a relaxing night..

A beautiful restaurant that serves spectacular dishes, you can choose between a 3 or a 4 course. The menu changes every 5 weeks. The food is good and definitely one of the best experiences to fine-dine in Antwerp. Gluten-free option clearly labeled.

Beautiful vegan dinner - Edit
We came here during the summer with non-vegan friends and we were all absolutely blown away by the food. The presentation is incredible and the dishes are almost too beautiful to eat. The textureres and flavors are so delicate and delicious. This was an amazing experience and very affordable for this type of food/restaurant. The service is excellent, the setting is beautiful. We definitely will be back.

Read moreWe really enjoyed our dinner, with the highlights of the current menu being the salsify/black radish terrine and the mashed potatoes with tofu and nori.
Note that they have a monthly seasonal menu, which is great because you'll always have something different to try.
The staff was friendly and the waiting times were a little bit longer than usual but nothing unsettling.

Short menu, they serve 3 courses, 2 dishes to choose from in each. Exceptionally good main course and dessert, the starter was tasty, but not as special as what followed. Very pretty interior, a great place to sit in for a while. Definitely worth trying.

Read moreThe starter was a bit disappointing, red beet dumplings, but they were just a couple of slices of red beet folded together with just a little bit of filling. The size of the dish was rather small as well.
However, the main course and the dessert were really impressive.
the main dish had really great fries and a fantastic tasting steak tartare, with something on top that resemble an egg yolk. I don't know what it was, but it tasted great.
As a whole you get a great variety of food for a very reasonable price.
Service was really great as well
