A small all-vegan restaurant located inside the food court of the 4th East Street Market. As of Feb. 2019, it is the only vegan restaurant in the food court. Seating is in public space. Offers a strictly vegan, plant-based menu of traditional Mexican food. The majority of the menu is gluten-free and soy-free as well, and they do not use any mock meats. Best known for tamales (over 16 different flavors) but they also make ceviche, aguachile, pozole, enchiladas, salads, soups, and desserts. Their menu is rotational and therefore they have different items every day. Check their social media pages for any changes. Inside Fourth Street Market (4SM). Open Mon-Tue 11:00am-3:00pm, Wed-Fri 11:00am-7:00pm, Sat 11:00am-8:00pm, Sun 11:00am-6:00pm. Closed Tue.

Vegan Tamales - Edit
Vegan tamales!!! Yes please and thank you. Service was great Tamales were great. I had the cactus and the jalapeno-cheddar served with their veggi soup and the cactus salad. Hindsite I would have not double downed on the cactus the salad portion was large and more variety of flavors and textures would have been better. The soup was good, nothing amazing, but I make really good soup so I am a bit of a soup snob.
Read moreThe thing that made me sad was that they don't make the food there it is all held warm or reheated, the soup was not warm enough. A larger Mexican menu would be awesome and food prepared on site is always preferable. Their space has them limited in what they can do; no stove or cooking hood allowed. Hopefully they can someday move into a better spot that will allow them to show their true cooking talents. I know it would be amazing.
Pros: Vegan tamales
Cons: Food cooked off site, soup was barely warm

Entirely Plant Based in Downtown Santa Ana - Edit
Had a little trouble getting here. Busy downtown area and hard to find parking which is primarily metered. Their located in a food court which had a trendy vibe and several vegan options at the various neighboring restaurants. Tried the menudo, plantain tamale, green Chile tamale and their mushroom red sauce tamale. The Mass was tasty, I liked the green chili tamale best. Menudo could have been more seasoned, it was good but not amazing. I didn’t care much for the plantain tamale—it was just too sweet for me. They were out of several menu items so it was limited. They only have tamales and soup from what the menu illustrated. I’m glad that there is an entirely plant based Mexican food option in this area however it wasn’t my favorite and I probably wouldn’t return however it may just be my personal preference. It was good but not five star worthy.

Great Mex Vegan! - Edit
Finding purposefully vegan food in the Hispanic community is not easy, which is why I just about lost it when I came across La Vegana Mexicana! The very first dish I tried remains my favorite to this day - the vegan ceviche! It is so, so, so good! I wasn't even a huge fan of "regular" ceviche before I became vegetarian but this one really hits the spot! I also very much enjoy the blue corn & lima bean tamales as well as the jalapeño & blue "cheese" tamales. I have tried their puzzle and, while the broth has a good flavor, it is too mushroom-heavy for me and I happen to not be a huge fan of mushrooms.
Read moreOther than that, I can tell you that the service is always friendly and the prices fair. I'm a fan!!
Pros: Tasty Hispanic food, Creative combonations, Friendly service
Cons: Irregular hours
