Not just the food is sweet - Edit
The owner is amazingly sweet too, easy to chat with and very understanding.
Read moreWith a seasonal menu, we were a bit bummed that we missed out on the cinnamon roll/bun. However, the cream cheese bagel, millionaire’s shortbread, among many other options more than made up for it.
The cream cheese was the most authentic tasting according to us, and if possible we’d love to see it being sold nationwide someday.
The store’s decor is also, despite being petite, incredibly well decorated. Although the location is a little remote from the city center, we would recommend for other people, vegans and non-vegans, to try.
We’ll definitely visit again next time we’ll hit Sendai, especially in the hopes of discovering new/seasonal items.

Pros: Freshly home-made, Original recipes, Drinks available
Cons: Take-out only, Limited business hours

Amazing Place - Edit
What an amazing place. The food was all really delicious, with my favorite being the cinnamon rolls (also had the brownies, cookies and pumpkin bread). And I got along really great with the owner, which was a great pleasure as well. If you're in the area, would highly recommend to go out of your way for this place!!

A remarkable little bakery in Sendai! - Edit
Hi. Long time vegan here...
Read moreIn my experience, and on average, vegan sweets in Japan are pretty terrible. However, the creations at La Maison Rose were quite spectacular! Thank you so much!
I went for the first time a couple weeks ago...There was only one problem... even though I got one of everything, I didn't buy enough! I ate them all and wanted more! (lol)
Very specifically:
The bagel was a bagel! Nice and chewy, not bagel shaped bread!!!
The pumpkin cake had a beautiful balance of sweetness and spices, and the seeds on top were perfectly crunchy to compliment the moistness of the cake.
I didn't have a chance to warm the cinnamon roll, as I devoured it in the car as I drove away, but it was wonderful nevertheless, just enough sweetness in the glaze and a lot of spicy cinnamon rolled up throughout!!
The chocolate raspberry cookie was heavenly, and the little bulbs of raspberry popped their sour juice to balance the sweet chocolatiness.
The browny was like a trip back to my childhood! It had the perfect brownie top crust...I haven't had a good vegan brownie in decades, here or back home, and this was superb! And the walnuts were the golden crown on this classic done amazingly well.
Finally, the trifle was other-worldly. Vegan whipped cream is hard to make well, without tasting like a glob of coconut oil, but this was sublime. The cake was moist yet firm, the custard silky, and the strawberries were fruity and sweet with a slight sourness that wrapped all the other ingredients together in a big jammy hug!!
Rose, the owner and baker, was incredibly warm, sweet and welcoming. It's no wonder her treats are so sumptuous!!
I'm so grateful that I could finally find such good and yummy sweets here...I foresee even more of them in my future... especially her made-to-order chocolate cake!
Thank you!

A little gem of European baking culture! - Edit
This little take-out-only bakery is run by a lovely Swiss owner who knows exactly what she's doing!
Read moreI wish I had pictures, but I never tought of taking any early enough.. sorry!
So far I've tried the cinnamon buns (a lot of cinnamon and a very good yeast dough), the chocolate chip cookie (a bit chewy and with a perfect hinch of salt), the cheesecake (and a limited raspberry-lemon-cheesecake with an incredibly chewy and slightly salty crust to balance the sweetness!), the brownies and - the reason why I went there in the first place - the Linzer torte.
Everything was delicious and filling, good portion sizes and for a reasonable price (regarding the high quality and the pricey ingredients). Overall the balance of sweet and sour/salty is on point!
The all-vegan baked goods are just the right thing if you're missing your bakery back home. While it's a bit far away from the city center, the train station is very close and you get to take a walk in a lovely little neighbourhood.
I recommend stocking up on baked goods just when the bakery opens and take the train from Toshogu-Station, which will take you to the famous temple Yamadera (Yamadera-Station on the Senzan Line) in about an hour.
A perfect and delicious day trip!
Make sure you check her instagram to know what's on the menue that day and come early so that everything is still in stock!
PS: Only very few items are pre-packaged so feel free to bring your own container for sustainable shopping!

Wonderful little bakery! - Edit
There is different menu everyday and specials around the holidays. I got a lemon cake and brownie which were both delicious! I also got a taste of the cheesecake which I wouldn't be able to differentiate from a non-vegan cheesecake. It was affordable considering the lack of some ingredients in Japan. I only wish the location was closer to the city or there was a seating area. The absolute wonderful hospitality made up for the travel time! It's a pity I couldn't go there again but I truly recommend it to anyone who's in Sendai!
