Very little vegan choice, not even the tempura is vegan. But the waiters were very affable - Edit
My omni friend and I tried Kyoto last night.
Read moreI went straight for the tempura because it’s one of my favourite dishes and the waitress told me that it used to be vegan but now they put eggs in the batter….
I asked her if they could very quickly whizz up a real tempura (it’s a simple as mixing rice flour with water and that’s how it’s traditionally made) she went to check and the kitchen said they couldn’t - why I don’t know 😐 - so I couldn’t order it…
They also said that their teriyaki sauce is home-made and contains fish sauce but that they did have a vegan alternative out of a bottle and the waitress herself said she had tried it and it wasn’t very nice, but unfortunately it was my only option, so vegan rolls and tofu steak with vegan teriyaki sauce it was….
It wasn’t the best dinner, but at least I managed to eat.
The waiter and the waitress were very affable and took note of all my intolerances as well, which was really appreciated!
Pros: Avocado maki and asparagus nigiri, Humemade tofu steak (but not the sauce), Affable staff
Cons: They put eggs in the tempura batter, They put fish sauce in the homemade teriyaki sauce, Not capable of making a quick, real tempura batter

Delicious! - Edit
This place is perfect for hungry vegans! Their menu has plenty of options but be aware that their portion sizes are very large (my starter was a full size block of tofu 😬) Followed by the bento box which was simply delicious! You have to specify when ordering that you like the Miso soup vegan as it comes with fish sauce as standard. Staff was super nice and overall great experience. Highly recommend!

Veggie Fotomaki! - Edit
We skipped lunch due to our hiking and driving of the day so we ate a BIG meal at Kyoto. I tried a lot of things!
Read moreI had the tofu nigiri, vegetable fotomaki, cucumber roll, and avocado roll.
The cucumber and avocado rolls were very basic, as to be expected. However they were still freshly made.
The tofu nigiri was like nothing I’ve ever had before. I’ve never had tofu that thinly sliced before. To have it wrapped around sushi rice was really tasty. I ordered another portion!
The vegetable fotomaki however was my favorite choice! I wish I would have had that to the table first and then I wouldn’t have bothered with ordering the avocado and cucumber rolls! It was absolutely delicious! It was a large maki roll with asparagus, avocado, and sweet potato with a sweet sauce drizzled over. Definitely recommend ordering it!
Pros: Quiet, Lots of seating , Clearly marked allergens

Bento Box! - Edit
This restaurant is off the main shopping area in waterford but definitely worth a visit! As with most Asian restaurants there are plenty of meat free and plant based options. The vegetable futomaki are so tasty and super filling and the vegetable bento box (General Tso Tofu, avocado rolls, yasai gyoza, rice and miso soup) is a great option if you like a bit of variety.

Insanely good - Edit
I cannot even tell you how good the food was. We had a proper vegan spread. The service is quick and precise, the food was super super delicious, crispy! And I checked the menu, over 25 of the dishes are vegetarian/vegan!
