Quiet, but great food - Edit
The place itself is very quiet and has relaxing sounds playing. The woman that served us could not have been more accommodating, she was lovely and the service was fantastic. The food was great, I had salad with homemade dressing, and a curry. There’s not much in Nara, so this little gem is a great find!

Beautiful cafe, best service! - Edit
This place is beautiful with a relaxing atmosohere. My mum and I went there for dinner and we were seated immediately by the owner, who also offered us hangers for our coats, baskets for our scarves and gloves, and blankets for us to keep warm. She speaks good English, and was able to explain to us in details their new year menu.
Read moreWe ordered the brown rice set which came with a veggie patty, soup and a few side dishes, as well as the noodle soup. Portion sizes were good and the taste was fantastic! I especially loved the patty. To finish off our meals we were offered two different types of herb tea. Overall we had a great time and would highly recommend this place!

Warm & Welcoming - Edit
The restaurant was easy to find, and we were greeted and seated by the sole employee immediately. She was sweet and happy, and enthusiastically explained to us, in English, the vegan meals they had available, in addition to their special New Year's options.

Cons: A little pricey, but you get a good amount for you

Fantastic Food and Wonderful Owner - Edit
Went here for lunch and had the tofu burger. The food was excellent - the burger was handmade and was served alongside rice, miso soup and various other small dishes. The owner was very friendly and understanding of dietary requirements. Beyond that she spoke good English and was very helpful in recommending further acitivities in Nara.

Great Food and Service - Edit
The waitress was extremely courteous and professional. She initially asked me to clarify my dietary preferences and then took me through the menu, pausing to reassure me that she understood my requirements. She was especially specific on fish stock (not used in Miso).
Read moreI ordered the Tofu meal. It is not a ‘burger’ (no bun) but a Tofu Pattie and it was delicious and filling - came with various sides.
Food came in reasonable time - I’m always happy to wait as it’s a sign of fresh preparation.
I would eat here again, and have no trouble recommending it.
Pros: service, freshness, price

a-ok food in Nara - Edit
I’m reading through these reviews and wondering if the other reviewers speak Japanese. If you c an communicate, everything is great!. The owner was knowledgeable about vegan and vegetarian diets and showed us the veg options. She checked a few times and we made sure no katsuodashi was in anything. Omnivores have the option of dashi with fish in it but the owner is lovely and made sure my needs were met. The food makes a solidly good lunch and prepares you for an afternoon of wandering about. A good option. I give this four stars because the food is totally ok and does the trick of filling you up.

Cons: a little on the simple side. expensive

Charming & cosy with very friendly staff! - Edit
This was such a charming little place! The staff were incredibly friendly and gave me many options while they were preparing my dish, and made sure I was happy with the ingredients they were using in my meal. I ordered a delicious gyoza lunch set, where the gyoza wrap was made with sliced radish instead of flour. Very welcoming and cosy, and right across from an adorable cat cafe too! They do use fish stock in some dishes but if you specify you are vegan they will prepare fully vegan meals - there are several options to choose from :)

Not vegan - Edit
This restaurant uses fish stock, so while every menu item can be made vegan, please be sure to let them know when you walk in if you are veg*n. My server had to remake my soup, because she accidentally put in the stock, even after asking about what I ate.
Read moreTheir pasta with mushrooms was excellent. Be sure to add dressing to the salad, which is otherwise not very interesting.
Located on the third floor of the building it is in.
Pros: Location
Cons: Service was slow and not attentive, Expensive

NOT completely vegan. - Edit
We asked 3 times if everything was vegan. The woman kept saying “yes!” Then when the lunch plate came, as she described the small dishes to us she asked, “do you eat tuna?” We said no. She took these little mushrooms away saying there’s tuna in there. Then after my wife took a sip of the miso soup the woman came out and said there’s fish in the miso soup too! She was very nice and remade it without fish. But at that point we just wanted to get out. The lunch plate and a banana smoothie was $30, and two items weren’t vegan. Exasperating. We were more bummed that it was a waste of time and money.
