Authentic South Indian cuisine with plenty of vegan options - Edit
I had lunch here on a Saturday. The place was near full capacity with 95% of the people being Indians. This is a great sign when you're eating at an Indian restaurant!
Read moreAlthough there was a huge lunch buffet that looked tempting, my server suggested to order from the menu since it had more vegan items to choose from, so that is what I did. She was super helpful to take time during the busy lunch crowd to talk about the various vegan options on the menu, which are plentiful. Dishes listed in the Vegetarian section and labeled as DF (Dairy Free) are vegan. In total, there are 12 vegan appetizers, 8 vegan curry dishes, 1 vegan biryani & rice dish, 2 vegan "Northern India" dishes, and 6 dosai & bread dishes.
It is apparent this is a family-owned restaurant working hard to provide an authentic South Indian food experience. They use fresh ingredients and make everything from scratch in house, and you can definitely taste the difference. I'll be back for sure.

Worth the trip from Minneapolis - Edit
This would be a 6/5 if I could rate it that high. Yeah they have non-vegan options, but the food and staff were both wonderful. They knew what was and wasn't vegan immediately when we asked.

Has options & good food! - Edit
Copied and pasted my Google Maps review. :)
Read moreFound this place through the HappyCow app for vegan/vegetarian-friendly restaurants. My coworker and I went to Kumar’s on Thursday, May 27th for dinner, around 8 PM for dinner. She had never had Indian food, so I’m glad I was able to introduce her to new chains.
They have a nice menu. I’m on a vegan diet, and they have their vegetarian menu labeled. I asked the server for suggestions on what items I could eat if I wanted to eat vegan, and he was able to suggest two items for me, the Chennai chili cauliflower and the Channa Masala. I never actually got my Chennai chili appetizer, but I was okay with it because I was so full after eating the Masala. My coworker loved her food, too!
It would be super cool if they had a vegan menu. Maybe a simple, printed page they could hand out to those who are on a plant-based diet? 🙂🌱

Tasty takeout - Edit
We were happy to discover another restaurant in Apple Valley with vegan dishes! We enjoyed the chana masala, kathirikka vadhakkal, and avial. Everything is clearly lableled dairy free and gluten free on the online ordering menu, and it’s easy to avoid the dishes that contain meat.
