Would never come again

Read mixed reviews on this place - about the rude lady etc Yep guys the bad reviews are true :( Tbh never thought I would write something bad about a restaurant cause I'm not that kind of person. But please, can't emphasis this enough, please do not come here unless you want to be ripped off and want to experience the worse customer service ever !!
There are not a lot of veggo/vegan places in akihabara, and I was delighted when I came across this place on happycow. Wanted to try it out myself. My friend and I went there early, the lady (which I soon became aware that's she is the rude one that ppl say) said that the place was not open yet, and needed to wait another 20mins. So I was yea that's okay I'll wander around the food stores outside the restaurant. Wandered around about 20mins and finally came to the place to order. You do not order whilst sitting and reading the menu. There are large signs at the front of the store and you order at the front and pay at the front before eating. I wanted to order 3 side dishes with rice but as part of the dinner set, you MUST order 4 side dishes with a drink/dessert. I repeat you MUST, I told her nah 3 side dishes are fine and no drink but she didn't let me finish and emphasised in English "please choose a drink or dessert". Tbh it came across very rude and inconsiderate (all the jap customer service I have received so far was beyond my expectations they are super duper nice and smiley but this LADY is the totally opposite). Thought this was a Buddhist cuisine restaurant and that they were nice and respectful but hell no - she was far from that and when I came there so happened to be monks teaching ppl how to cook so basically a cooking class - they were okay but we did not communicate.
The food overall was about 20AUD which was hella expensive for the proportion. She basically chucked on the side dishes that were on display from the front of the store around a big black plate and had a bowl of rice which was far from full. Had a miso soup which tasted very strange.
The only food I enjoyed from here was the white sesame ice cream that I was forced to buy.
Highly do not recommend and would never come here again

Cons: Rude customer serivce, Not worth the $

Boring food

Been to a lot of vegan restaurants now in various districts and this just can’t even compare. There’s a limited choice on food, also when we went there was 1 display and the rest empty so I wasn’t too sure on the size I was ordering. The owner was very snappy, it felt like there was a massive queue behind me, but the place was literally empty and she had no customers but us. When we received the food it was super quick (which made me a little suspicious) but it was all so tasteless. I actually wanted to go somewhere else to eat afterwards because it was that far from filling. I guess if you’re in Akihabara and want something to eat fast, try this place. Otherwise nip on the metro and find many many better places to eat. I left feeling fed up and disappointed. Won’t be returning.

Pros: Close to Akihabara station

Cons: Boring, tasteless food., Snappy owner, not welcoming., It’s underneath tracks, so noisy!

Not great

I’d read previous reviews about the snappy, impatient lady on the counter and unfortunately we got her... I try my best to use my basic Japanese but this place made me feel uncomfortable trying. The food portions are small, which isn’t something I usually mind if they are tasty, but they weren’t anything special... She had disappeared when we had finished our food so we put our trays on the rack and left. Sadly wouldn’t recommend.

Pros: Conveniently close to Akihabara station

Cons: Not very tasty food, Small portions, Bad customer service

One of the rare vegan options in town

Food was okay, but not special. Portions were small and therefore overpriced. Also the drinks aren't cheap. The restaurant is located in a shopping center so it's not cozy at all. Guess it has a reason I was the only customer.

Pros: Everything is organic , Everything is vegan on the menu so it's easy to or

Cons: Expensive , The atmosphere isn't really cozy, Small portions

traditional japanese

Reading the introduction online we expected simple temple food (literally rice and soup) but this was so much more. We had the daily special which includes wild rice, miso soup and 8 small tasting dishes AND chocolate icecream all 100% VEGAN BABY

Correcto

Vegano 100%

Pros: La mejor opción de la zona

Cons: No es económico ni demasiado abundante

Traditional but too expensive

Food was lovely and leant towards traditional Japanese food. Was a nice cozy joint too. Only down side was that the price was quite expensive for the size of the meal. Also the lady running the counter was snappy and impatient.

Pros: Traditional Japanese food, Cozy joint/atmosphere

Cons: Expensive, Impatient counter service

Healthy vegan Japanese food

Very much a no-frills place. The choice of dishes is not very large, but what is being served is very tasty and healthy. Reasonable prices. Excellent teas and good craft beers. You must order a drink with the food (tea is enough). Staff speaks some English.

Disappointing

It wasn’t the worst food but not special and not worth the money. Should have stayed at the 7/11 over the road and got sushi.

Hearty Vegan Food

While a little expensive, the food was very healthy and filling. I particularly enjoyed the flavor of the miso soup. To find the place, go one block past the AKB & Gundam stores and enter the first door of “Chabara” on your right. Go to the back right corner. It’s an alcove of a larger food shopping area.

Pros: close to station , filling

Cons: limited menu

Limited options but tasty

Great place especially because there are few options in Akihabara (2017) but limited choices in terms of dishes.

Pros: Food is nice

Cons: Pricy, Forced to chose desserts with certain dishes which

not terrible but wont go again

there are veey limited options to choose from although they do have three flavours of icecream.

the atmosphere isnt that nice, just some tables in the back of the market.

its 1280yen for a dinner set, you get miso soup and rice (but have to pay 200yen extra for brown rice!) and then choose 4 sides~ pumpkin, fried gluten, cucumber, curry, green beans.

you dont get much food and it tastes ok, but not great.

you also are forced to buy a drink which will add about 400yen to your bill!

overall for a dinner set and drink (no dessert) we paid 1940yen each~ not great value for mediocre food.

Pros: near subway

Cons: not good value, ok amount of food but not that much, not nice atmosphere

Trust Google Maps

Don't get confused by the description, going to 2k540 Aki-Oka Artisan is useless. The place is situated in Chabara, i.e. much closer to Akihabara Station than 2k540.
Trekking to the latter meant that we were too late for eat-in service but luckily they do take-out, and "Fried Gluten" was just something we couldn't pass up.
All in all, we found the meals a bit bland, but the ice cream (chocolate, green tea, white sesame at the time of visit) made up for that.

Pros: Quick, Do take-out, Nice ice cream

Cons: A bit bland

Tasty but feels more like the fast food version of shojin ryori (Buddhist temple cuisine)

Amidst the madness that is Akihabara, this is a cozy little spot where you can enjoy simple and healthy meals that are being touted as shojin ryori (Buddhist temple cuisine). We opted for the cheapest set which was 980 yen for one main dish, two side dishes, miso soup and fermented brown rice. Even so it was still considered pricey for the amount of food we got. I guess it can't be helped since this is located in a touristy area. The food was tasty but nothing like the shojin ryori you can get in Kyoto. The food was lacking in presentation, color, and the subtle balance in textures and flavors associated with shojin ryori. This is more like macrobiotic lunch plates typically found in Japanese cafes. Overall the meal was satisfying but a little uninspiring for shojin ryori. I would only recommend this place if you are in the area.

Pros: Simple and generally tasty food, Central location

Cons: A little pricey for amount and quality of food, Not really reminiscent of real shojin ryori

Filling meal

Took a few second glances to find this restaurant inside the complex, but once found it was a cute quiet place tucked away from the outside craziness. Food was not as abundant as I imagined, but very tasty and surprisingly filling!

good lunch!

Very nice veg curry, rice & miso plus a couple of salad/sides. Place took a little while to locate as its in a sort of indoor market/shop with lots of other stuff - just head to the back right corner. Vegan chocolate ice cream was super good 😋

Solid offering, a tad pricey though

Getting to the right place was not trivial. Chabara is easy to find, but there are many food stalls inside and none of them is labeled as "Komaki Syokudo." Look for the second name, "Kamakura Fushikian," instead.

The menu is pretty short - you pick from a list of small dishes, or just go with the recommended set. I did the latter. I read here that ordering a drink is mandatory, I was thirsty anyway, so I got a roibos tea.

The food arrived pretty quickly. I liked all I got: Miso soup, rice (I paid 200 yen extra for brown rice) and a number of small vegetable dishes. The portions were not huge but I felt quite satisfied after eating it all.

The food was somewhat pricey (2332 yen for the lot), the portions not very large, but it was solid fare and I did not feel hungry afterward.

Pros: Tasty

Cons: Hard to findy, Limited menu, Pricey

Temple cuisine

The food here was tasty but for me wasn't that special. Maybe I was expecting something different.
You have to purchase a drink with your meal, which is not right, in my opinion.
The portions seems small but they were enough for dinner (the large plate) and miso and rice are free to refill.
Not cheep, so I don't think will be back.

Pros: Good food, Very particular

Cons: Nothing special, You have to order a drink, Not cheep

The food was very good. The only negatives where the fact that I was forced to buy a drink and also it was hard to find the place. But overall it was really tasty and very Japanese !!! I recommend this.

Pros: Food, Presentation, Price of food

Cons: Forced to buy drink, Location (hard to find)

Not worth the money

We paid 3000 yen for the small evening set for 2 with two drinks. The owner says you're obliged to buy one drink even though this is not written on the menu nor a common practice in Japan. The food didn't look fresh and tasted bland. I liked the miso soup which hardly ever happens and I liked the multi-grain coffee latte but the food wasn't that good and I didn't like all the hidden costs (drinks + extra for other kind of rice) so I won't be going back unless I'm desperate for food and everything else is closed.

Updated from previous review on 2017-01-09

Pros: all vegan

Cons: too expensive for what you get, bland taste, hidden costs

Good food but limited choices

The food is generally good but the choices are limited. We were there for dinner and were told that it was compulsory for each of us to order a drink with extra charge (at least 480 Yen each) on top of our meal order. I dont quite like this as our meal already included Miso soup and we really didn't want the extra drink but we're forced to pay for it.
