It’s fine

Good baked items. I’m disappointed with the changes they’ve made to the menu, extremely limited now. At 9am i was offered a grilled veggie sandwich or squash soup, really not the breakfast experience i used to love here. I probably won’t be back.

It's Basically a Coffee Shop Now

I went recently and there was really only one hot food menu item, a breakfast burrito with a handful of different preparations (premade, no customization). It was fine. Baked goods, as usual, were superb. I was told this shift was made so that owners could spend more time with their new baby (congrats!). I hope this model works for them. I'm definitely less inclined to go there now that the siren call of that spectacular cajun lion's mane dish and lemon curd pancakes has been silenced.

Pros: Amazing baked goods, most are vegan

Cons: Very limited selection

Delicious vegan options

Loved the rancheros. I was a little bummed to not get the golden sphere, but I guess it's on me for not knowing you have vegan scrambled eggs now.

Yall hate for no reason

This place started as a plant based restaurant and slowly incorporated vegetarian options. This doesn’t mean the quality of vegan options went down. This food is great and the staff are lovely people. I LOVE their vegan bakery items!! The Rancheros with the sunshine sphere is unbelievably tasty. Don’t listen to bad reviews because people’s feelings got hurt because a small business did what it needed to to stay in business. ♥️💚💙

Owner hostile towards vegans and others

The owner(s), when Knead was first established, had in their marketing that they were "100% vegan" and that they were "plant forward." Since May 2024, they've introduced animal products into their menu and have become hostile to those who questioned their restaurant regressive practices, and there are stories of staff being mistreated too. I don't feel comfortable supporting an establishment that not only began to support animal exploitation, but mistreats people too. I would give 1 star if I could.

Not Vegan

Be careful here if you're Vegan. They now serve animal secretions, including milk and eggs.

I visited this place twice before they announced this change and they didn't use the word Vegan anywhere on the menu or signage. I asked both times and they said they were "plant-based", but hesitated to say Vegan. This confuses customers and perpetuates stigma around the word.

I find it incredibly suspicious when Vegan restaurants stop being Vegan. It tells me they were never Ethically Vegan if they can suddenly start exploiting animals to make more money. I regret recommending this place to friends and will not visit again.

Cons: Not Vegan, Exploitation of Customers , Exploitation of Animals

Amazing brunch option - update - no longer vegan

Update: restaurant is now vegetarian not vegan with slightly smaller menu. Still many vegan options. Walnuts in many dishes so those with tree nut allergies take note.

Highly recommend and glad to have these folks back in ABQ.

We have eaten at Knead a couple times, but still have not tried everything, though we plan to.

We tried some of the chef specialty items, including the katsu curry, which had interesting textures and lovely flavors, and a couple salads. I really appreciate the complexity of their dishes. They are distinctive and interesting - something different and a bit fancy.

The brunch items really are easy to love. The lemon curd pistachio pancakes are fluffy and decadent. The cajun lion's mane is layers of flavor - the toast layer has an excellent pesto and would make a hearty lunch or dinner option as well. We loved the gravy on the biscuits.

We also got their brioche donuts. My husband loved them. I decided to slice mine up and made french toast out of it - so good!

UPDATE: No longer 100% vegan

Great menu with rotating specials, food is always flavorful and unique. Pastries rotate daily, try the potato brioche selection!!

EDIT: Sadly they now serve dairy milk, eggs, and honey. Vegan options still available, but risk of cross-contamination is present. Really disappointed as this eatery was normally referred to as completely vegan.

Cons: Added animal products to menu

As of May 4th 2024 Knead is NOT vegan anymore

As of today, this place is not vegan anymore. They have decided to redo their menu and use milk in their dishes "for those who want it". I'm honestly not sure how many of the new dishes will have milk in it. But they already only had ~12 dishes, so now the actual vegans dishes would probably be less and there will probably be problems with cross contamination. I don't recommend the place anymore and I will not go again. It's a shame because their vegan food was delicious. And they are always full on the weekends with people who are okay with the vegan nature of the food, but yet they think they have to add milk. Honestly, if they're concerned about business, then maybe they should have been doing a dinner service beause I would have eaten there during the week as well. SMH.

Cons: Not vegan anymore, Cross contamination

Knead a Little More

When in Albuquerque, NM do as the Burqueños do - just do it Vegan. Knead does a good job of that, and while I appreciate that the foundation of their business is all things relating to dough, not all of their menu items need to be so refined-carb-laden. Case in point: the Rancheros plate I ordered today. I loved everything about it - including the spices - just not the fact that it's served on a Belgian waffle. Aside from tasting the waffle once (there was nothing special about it, believe me), I left the remainder of it there and ate everything else on the plate, which was deeeeLISH 😋 I also appreciated the fact that Knead is conveniently located near the train depot (less than a five minute walk) and for this tired and hungry traveling Vegan who had just stepped off the train from L.A. that made all the difference.

Pros: Tasty and satisfying , Bright and inviting atmosphere

Cons: Please offer some menu items free of refined carbs

So delicious!

I had the berry Chantilly waffle for breakfast, and it was absolutely delicious. The staff is super friendly, the café is cute, and they have lots of selections of breakfast items and baked goods. I would definitely be back again when in Albuquerque.

Pros: Friendly staff , Delicious breakfasts

Cons: Street parking - paid

This shouldn't be listed as vegan

We had donuts and coffee, but they wouldn't give us a straight answer on if the donuts were vegan. They said "plant forward". We spent a long time worrying about it, especially because we are traveling and allergic to dairy. The donuts were good but not worth the worry. We had planned to eat there more days for breakfast but decided against it.

Dangerous! SO good!

The donuts! Blueberry and raspberry. It took superhuman strength not to eat several more.
And for meals, best mac n cheez, with that spicy kick and crispy breaded crust. And the delish curry.
My new favorite vegan eatery.

Good brunch food

We stopped here, passing through Albuquerque. The food was delicious and filling. When I asked if their menu was vegan, I was told they don't use that term, but everything is plant based. They have dishes and drinks with honey, so that was a little confusing. It would be nice for clarification on the crème fraîche and such. Delicious? Absolutely! Vegan? Uh...

So good I went back twice in one week.

Delicious food and great prices for the size and quality-I cant get enough of this place. The pistachio vanilla pancakes with lemon curd were exceptional. I’m still dreaming about them.

Pros: Prices are super affordable , Portions are just right, A perfect balance of sweet & savory

Cons: More pastries please!

Much kneaded in ABQ

I’ve been so excited to try this place and finally got to! We only tried the rosemary biscuits and gravy and the Cajun lions mane (the best)
The “sunshine sphere” on top was very fun to me, somebody who hasn’t had a runny egg in 7 years. It could have used some black salt to get more off that egg-y flavor, but texturally I loved it.
Unfortunately they had no pastries in the case when we arrived (an hour before they close) so I didn’t get to try any of that today

Pros: All vegan, Unique

A wonderful experience

Top notch! Incredibly generous portions of mushrooms (lions mane, oyster, so good!). We didn’t try any sweet treats or donuts this time but I can confirm that the pancakes and donuts looked absolutely amazing. Our dishes were great, the prices were shockingly reasonable, and the drinks were superb.

Decadent vegan creations

This place is fantastic and I appreciate the creativity and the decadence offered in every dish. My only feedback is that I personally would come back much more often if the sweet and savory were balanced with a bit of nuance, fresh and light options, because I can't handle all the sugar and salt. I walk away full & happy, but with a headache every time. Maybe a lite menu easy on the sugar and salt for those of us who have to take it easy more often than "knot"?

I travel across the country eating at vegan restaurants, I occasionally post, but this place is F’ing amazing… had to try a few things, and wished they delivered long distance !! Hidden in Albuquerque, New Mexico !!

Pros: Fresh huge portions, No mock ingredients , Fantastic focused menu

Cons: It’s too far from all my homes (I’m tri-costal)

Very Oily Donuts

So I’ve gotta give it 4 stars because any vegan place needs all the encouragement they can get, but these donuts are so greasy, they made all of us feel unwell. Pre-vegan, I could plow through 6 Krispy Kreme’s easily, but none of us were able to finish one. I mean, I get that donuts are supposed to be fried, but these literally dripped oil.

***Edited***

We went back to give them the benefit of the doubt. We’d hoped that after having been open a while they’d have figured out that when frying, your oil has to be hot so your dough doesn’t just absorb it like a sponge… They haven’t. Still oily. We dried the mushrooms dish… that too was so oily and so, so salty. The food is beautiful, but the salt and grease is stroke level.

Everything they have is great!

We ended up at this spot three times on our recent trip, despite their strange hours (closed Monday and Tuesday, which seems to be common in ABQ). Loved everything we tried here, especially the rosemary biscuits and gravy.

If you're not hungry enough for a full meal, consider getting a pancake and the smashed potatoes a la carte. They're very filling and extremely delicious.

They even refilled my coffee for free! I think many of us are used to eating at overpriced joints that would never dream of refilling your $4 coffee, but here they came by our table to ask if we wanted more. (The coffee is great, by the way!)

This is definitely the best restaurant we tried in Albuquerque. Strongly recommended!
