Come for the drinks, stay for the food - Edit
The best bar and restaurant in SD. Great decor and ambiance (metal playing just loud enough that you have to listen to realize what’s playing) with killer eats. The food is well worth our drive from Temecula (over an hour away) for date nights and Sunday brunch. The seasonal menu takes advantage of the best produce and flavors the area has to offer and ensures quality ingredients. The charcuterie board, breaded and pickled, tofu Benedict and Soul Crush have remained our favorites, but we love trying the seasonal changes and new additions. The drinks are good, but not so much of you’re not a fan of bitters as they’re in almost every drink. Oh, don’t forget to say hi to the 4 eyed wolf! Best mascot, ever.

The best - Edit
Incredibly cool bar with beautiful decor, super friendly and knowledgeable staff and a very interesting menu and excellent beers on tap. I had the seitan skewers which were fantastic and everything is very reasonably priced. And the metal music just kinda works😄I wish this concept exists elsewhere!

SO GOOD - Edit
Go right now. Had the Hearts of Palm starter and Soul Crush entree. Fantastic. All vegan menu and I get to listen to Pallbearer while eating?! The metal enthusiast will be stoked about this place, but I don’t think it’s played up to a degree (or volume) that would put off somebody who isn’t into metal. Super cool vibe/atmosphere and the food stands up to it. 💯

Amazing!! - Edit
I could live at Kindred. Every single person I have taken here (vegans and omnis) has loved the food. Seriously, everything is ridiculously delicious -- you might cry. The brunch is AMAZING and the cocktails are on point (pretty boozy though... Beware! 😋). Very unique decor and pretty good service. The wait to get seated can get a little long, but it is well worth it.

Kindred has a hidden menu and seasonal menu. Make sure to check it out. Food tastes great! Great vibes with a bar in the middle. They have an interesting schedule for serving food, so make sure to find out if they are.

Great night out - Edit
This place was incredibly cool from the atmosphere to the cocktails. Beware it gets busy so we sat at the community table which I didn’t mind. The Palm tacos were incredibly good, the texture and taste reminded me of sea food. The beef skewers on the other hand tasted just like beef and had a nice outside texture, but I wasn’t a fan of how there was just beef of the skewers and nothing to break the flavor like a vegetable. Also it tasted so much like beef I almost got sick hahah but that means it is truly a great dish, almost like the real thing.

Kindred is everything! - Edit
Their brunch is good but the sweetness is a little over the top for some of the dishes (like the cinnamon roll) but the savory dishes are amazing. You don’t always get a restaurant that serves jicama and smoked coconut (hashes for the masses). The hearts of palm and the fried and pickled are a must try if you’re there for dinner. The only dish I would suggest avoiding is the soul crush (underwhelming), and the dish I would highly suggest is the artichoke po’boy.

Delicious. - Edit
The artichoke bread was really good. we split it and I’m glad we did because it’s pretty dense bread but super good. I have the breaded chicken on Mac and cheese with this type of mash. Everything was so good. And the Mac and cheese was bomb. My friend really liked her ravioli. It was a lighter option but really good.

We would go again. Cinnamon roll and Pancakes were fantastic. Benedict and Hashes for the Mashes were a little disappointing, but still good. Tofu scramble was tasty.

We had a selection from the menu and everything was tasty. My favorites were the seitan skewers and the vegan version of a charcuterie. The cookie dough bites were yummy too!! This place is a bargain for the quality. Definitely a must-eat.

Overall this restaurant was a major disappointment. We waited for over an hour for seats and then waited 45 minutes for our food. The service was less than adequate and the food was not great. There are far better restaurants in San Diego than this!!

This place is my inner vegan - Edit
So not to get too deep here, but I had a revelation last night at this restaurant. At first I was like what a cool unique totally different restaurant, then I was like wait, what if this restaurant was the true representation of what a vegan is? The pink wallpaper and pictures of cats and romantic ceilings are what vegans are on the inside, loving and caring about all living creatures and doing right by them. And the psychedelic metal and four eyed wolf with snakes is what we are, warriors trying to defend our living equals that are manipulated and abused. Like I said a little deep. Now on to the FOOD.
Read moreThis place was no short of incredible. The most opposite of a vegan restaurant you could guess. My non-vegan bf kept asking me, so this place is ALL vegan?? I’m like YAAS!! So the cocktails were just amazing. We stuck to the October specials menu, which was more rum inspired where as the normal menu was more gin and bourbon inspired. The names were delightful and fed my inner punkster. Really good selection of wines and beers as well, got a Pilsner and it was a really really tasty beer.
The food was just amazing. I got the soul crush, because it was screaming my name. Mashed potatoes, broccolini and Mac and cheese? Like that touches my soul. And swear this place has the best fried pickles I’ve ever had. This place was a delight and needs to have deviant sister restaurants pop up across the country so all can enjoy the very romantic, punk, whimsical restaurant this place is. Just come here.

Great food and vibe - Edit
Multiple people recommended Kindred for vegan food, and the food did not disappoint. I had the BBQ jackfruit and fried pickles, and they were great.
Read moreWhat WAS a little disappointing was the service. Everyone was nice, but the service was slow to the point I was concerned they forgot about us. It was a busy Friday night, so I’d cut some slack for that, but unfortunately it still detracted from the overall experience.
Overall, the food was great and the ambiance was cool, so I had a good time except for the unexpected delays.
Pros: Good food, cool vibe
Cons: Slow service during peak hours
