Nice

It’s good I do think a lot of the ingredients are similar to Vandal but they do it well in a Japanese fusion style. Get the banquet otherwise it’s not worth it. Fun experience

Hi Yo Silverware

I was excited about trying this place, and we met some friends here for an occasion and sat in the heated outdoor area. My first drink was a very nice yuzu sour, which was a bit like a spicy margarita. From there the drinks were increasingly disappointing - quite samey. Three of us decided to go for the degustation menu, the components of which ranged from amazing to average to a bit lame. Standouts were the crispy rice squares, with their delicious nori flavour (and the salmon and mayo), the chargrilled corn and the prawn katsu maki roll. At one point the waiter brought out a little pile of cucumber and we were like “is that for one person?” It turned out to be three coiled strips of marinated vegetable, pleasant enough, but a little delicate for me. Im sure the waiters must have identified each dish, but this escaped me and I’d have liked it to be a bit clearer. While the degustation was not a complete joke like that served in a certain plant-based fine-dining restaurant in Sydney, I wasn’t exactly stuffed after it. I had to try all the desserts and we shared these among three. I didn’t have high expectations of the passionfruit panna cotta, as vegan ones are often quite rubbery or cartilaginous, but this one was creamy, light and delicious. The serving of donuts was huge, and they were crisp but soft, very nice with the serve of gelato. The crème brûlée was nice enough but probably last on my list. I would certainly come back for another special dinner and try other tempting dishes on the menu. However, while I did generally enjoy my experience here, it wasn’t quite as amazing as I had anticipated.

Pros: No abimal abuse involved, Generally delicious food, Decent panna cotta

Cons: Some dishes a little dainty

Fantastic vegan sushi!

We had the 8 dish chef selection, which was amazing! Chick'n karaage and the corn was 👌 our favourite!
The food came out quick, our drinks were refreshed regularly.
We were a bit disappointed with the wait for dessert, tho it was worth it.
I had the matcha creme brulee and it was superb!!
Overall good service & 5⭐food.

is this the best vegan food in Sydney?

This is perhaps the best quality vegan food I have had in Sydney. The flavours are spot on and the attention to detail is great - each dish seems like it was well thought out and texture plays a big role in the food.

I really loved the food here - their omakase was exceptional value at only $35 for eight plates.

Best dish for me was the squid nigiri. it has a good kick of spice but it was just perfect. the resemblance to squid was unbelievable

Great place definitely coming back

Pros: sashimi , parsnip korokke, squid nigiri

Every plate; photo worthy

Beautifully presented sushi, fresh and tasty veg, o.k. staff, location and atmosphere. I found that their “raw fish”/“salmon” dishes usually used too much mayo which I personally wasn’t a fan of - no balance of flavour and I felt like it was often overtaken by mayo-y flavour. The squid nigiri and mushroom nigiri were definitely highlights.

Definitely opt for the set menu for a variety of dishes, and extra sushi pieces on the side as it’s much better value…we had one party who got the set menu and one who didn’t and the dollars of the dishes definitely added up…

Hooked on this place

I can't believe how good the foods is here - and the price is so amazing for the quality of food you get. I think this in my new favourite restaurant in Sydney - just overtaking their other restaurant Vandal.

The highlight for me was the salmon sashimi and the wild mushroom maki - whatever the sauce on that was blew my mind

must visit if in Sydney !

Pros: quality, price, original

🔥🔥🔥❣️

i am obsessed with vegan sushi places so obvi had to try. we went with the 8 plate chefs selection which was $35pp which is honestly not bad at all for a vegan spot in newton

overall, food was yum but no one in my group eats fish and was a bit freaked out by the nigiri (they use konjac)….but other than that, highly rated :)))

4 stars (only coz I’m not a fan of mock fish)

Top place to dine if you love sushi/sashimi and Japanese style hand rolls etc. I’m unfortunately not a fan of anything with a fishy flavor so even nori is pushing my boundaries 🤪 my problem. But, everyone loved it. Our non vegan well traveled/dined friends enjoyed it very much. Lovely space with gentle lighting and quiet spaces. Great services and well priced particularly the Omakasi (set menu). My pics are the non ‘seafood’ ones but everything was presented beautifully.

Sensational addition to Sydney's vegan scene

Delicious food, this new entry is so good. We have had both the summer and now winter Omakase menus and every dish is consistently amazing.
It seems small from the outside but there are extra rooms inside to dine in so would also be great for groups and at $35 for a set menu (25 if you jump on a special you spot on their instagram!) Kimusabi is one to put on your list when you come to Sydney.
BONUS: Greens vegan Supermarket right next door (same owner, also owns Vandal on King St so you know this is a trio of something exceptional)

Pros: Food, Omakase menu, Staff

Delicious food, even non-veg will love!

I've come here twice now, both times with non-veg people. They've always loved it! Definitely get the set tasting menu for either lunch or dinner - incredible value for money (was about $35 when we went). Food is super fresh and creative

Absolutely get on it

This is probably the highlight of our short trip to Sydney. We got the set menu of 8 dishes, some of which I forgot to get pics of because we were too busy devouring them. Some of the highlights included a seared squid nigiri, a sensational celeriac situation, and a grilled corn number that was tastier than I thought corn could ever be, and I am a big fan of corn and grew up in corn-farming country so I feel qualified to judge. The seafood elements of all the dishes were lovely. Seafood was one of the things I really had to commit to giving up when I went vegan years ago as I used to love it, so it was a joy to try vegan alternatives that were actually so much better than dead animal seafood. The service here was really good, and I was surprised by the relatively low price for the quality of the food and experience. The pros far outweighed the con of having a wobbly seat that absolutely could not contain my behind.

Very ‚real‘ seafood sushi. If you are missing the fishy taste a must go. For me personally a little bit too ‚real‘.

Pros: Great menu, Great set menu, Great Service

A must

Honestly this is a true gem! Impressed by every single dish! Go for the tasting menu so you can try 8 different items
They were having a special offer with only 25$ instead of 35$. You can add on two maki or one other item for 4$ and I added on the bulgogi mushroom maki which I highly recommend too!
Loved everything
Amazing service, beautiful ambience with outside dining too
They put a lot of effort in the dishes!
Can’t really name a favourite since everything was just stunning!!! This is heaven

Incredible

I went here with my friend on a whim for my birthday and let me tell you, we were blown away!! My friend, a non-vegan, who doesn’t venture out to vegan restaurants was saying that she couldn’t understand how the alternatives weren’t the real thing!

The flavours were amazing, we had the omakase (8 plates for $35) and it was super good value - we left feeling full and satisfied!

The staff were super friendly and accommodating, all in all, a 10/10 experience!

Not bad at all

Kimusabi is awesome for being the first fully vegan sushi joint that I’ve ever been to in Sydney. Every option has a great kick in taste. Non vegans will probably like it here. It’s also amazing that you can get 10% off at Green’s Supermarket from dining here.

Pros: Not far from Newtown station, Indoor and outdoor seating, Friendly customer service

Cons: Can be pricey

AMAZING FOOD. and incredible value for money

wow - not what I was expecting. the food is really innovative and something I have never tried before, and I loved it!

The set menu $35 is incredible value - 8 different things to try and each one was a flavour bomb.

we only went during the soft opening, but its already pretty damn good. apparently they are expanding out the back area and will be doing teppanyaki barbecue

Highlights were the seared squid nigiri and the prawn avocado roll

Pros: the set menu is amazing value for money , nigiri, cocktails were very good also

Incredibly overpriced

Much more reasonable priced and just as good sushi can be found elsewhere in Sydney. $9 for 2 tiny nigiri rolls is just insane. $14 or more for 4 tiny pieces of a maki roll.

The share plate , the faux prawn and veggie fried , was the only highlight of the meal really. Portions are tiny and way overpriced.

10/10 Food Experience

Go for the Omakase for $35pp for the best selection of their dishes. You get to try 8 for a good price. Every dish was so beautifully put together. A great place with friendly staff and an amazing concept. 10/10!

Great sushi

This is a very tasty sushi spot. We particularly enjoy the rotating menu linked in to minimise food waste from the grocery store next door. Great spot with an ethical approach to food!

Omg yes

First time trying this place out. Got the omakase (8 courses for $35 which we thought was amazing value) and it was all so delicious. My favourite was the crispy rice square with t*na tartare. The t*na was mind boggling... so juicy and full of flavour. My partners fav was the seared sq!d nigiri. But honestly every. Single. Thing. Was amazing.
These guys are run by the same people as Vandal and the manager recognised us from there and came to have a chat, but honestly he was having a chat with everyone. Such a friendly place that makes you feel like part of a community.
And greens supermarket is right next door so you can pick up a few hard to find plant based items afterwards!
Will definitely be adding Kimusabi to our regular rotation!

Must try the omakase (set menu)

The set menu (8 dishes for $35) is a great way to try lots of different option on the menu.
The standout for me was the salmon sashimi, I’d go back just for this alone!
Highlight was how beautifully everything was presented and the flavours were spot on.
Keen to go back and try the other options
