So many vegan options

We grabbed a bunch of vegan options and since there’s so many I’ll give a little review of what we got. Everything is pretty cheap.

Apple turnover: just what you’d expect. Light, flaky and soft apple filling. Would recommend.
Bbq tofu bun: it’s super sweet like sooo sweet, mushy and not super flavorful. Would not recommend.
Butter cone: it’s buttery filling and not very sweet like frosting and the pastry is crunchy. Would recommend.
Lemon custard bun: it’s not a custard at all. More like a lemon jelly. It’s fine.
Spring onion bun: something about mushy warm green onions just didn’t sit right with me.
Red bean cake: just what you’d expect. Would recommend.

Vegan Friendly Chinese Bakery

As a vegan who has walked past countless Chinese bakeries without being able to indulge, Keefer Court was such an exciting find! Located inside Asia Mall, the bakery is very cute and offers a variety of (labeled!) vegan options. The staff seemed knowledgeable about veganism, which was helpful.

I tried the spring onion bun and the chocolate cream cone—both were delicious! I wanted to try the sesame balls or buns, but since I visited near closing, they were sold out. If there is something you are hoping to try, I recommend going earlier in the day.

Variety of options!

So many fun options. Highly recommend stopping if you are in the area. It’s self serve, with tongs, and (as others have stated) very clearly marked.

If I lived in the area, I would visit frequently!

Pros: Convenient and fast, So many options , Variety of savory and sweet

Authentic Chinese Bakery

This bakery is located inside the Asia Mall which opened in November 2022.

Vegan items are clearly marked on the menu board and on description cards next to each item in “grab-n-go” cases. I counted 3 vegan bakery items, 11 vegan “Sweet” items, and 2 vegan “Savory” items.

I could not help but leave thinking there are many delicious treasures inside this bakery still waiting to be discovered.

STEAMED BBQ TOFU BUN REVIEW
I ordered the “Steam BBQ Tofu Bun” from the vegan “Savory” menu, not really knowing what it was, or why the bun was orange (a tasty mystery). I asked if it was sort of like a doughnut that I could eat as a snack, and the nice lady said some people eat it like a meal. Indeed, it was quite filling like a meal. Inside the bun was chopped pieces of what I think was tofu, mixed with a BBQ sauce that was lighter in flavor and intensity than the typical American-style BBQ sauce. The ingredients were good together and not competing against the flavorful steamed bun.

Great vegan options

The other reviews cover it pretty well, but the vegan options here are clearly labeled (they are all a different color from the omni options), run the gamut of Cantonese cuisine, and are all delicious. Highly recommended.

Wow! So many vegan options. From savory to sweet, Keefer Court has it all. The service was great and it's definitely a place I will go back to time and time again.

Arrive early

They tend to run out of their vegan options so make a point of going there early. Call ahead to make sure they have items available that day.

Cheap & unique

Affordable and unique: I’ve never been anywhere with this volume of Chinese steamed buns, this well labeled for vegan items. Savory options I tried included a mapo bun, kimchi bun, bbq tofu bun, and gluten free mung bean bun. All excellent, including the gluten free item which was toothsome in its own right rather than being a sandy alternative. I would not recommend the “coconut cream” sweet bun that I believe is heavily dependent on whipped vegetable oil for its “cream” and was frankly a bit off putting.

Pros: Variety, Well labeled, Cheap

Cons: Sweet buns less good

So many options!

We ordered out from here a bit ago and I am so glad I had a gift card to use! I tried a lot of their vegan baked goods including danishes and curry buns - so tasty.

I can't wait to try more soon!

Sooo gooood!!

There are a good number of vegan options in the bakery and they are all labeled clearly.. there are 4 vegan buns, and 2 of them are also GF. There are a number of vegan pastries including red bean sesame balls! Yumm! I had the tofu kimchi bun and a delicious, sweet, red bean cookie pastry. Looks like there are also some delicious entree options like fried rice and lo mein.

Pros: Really special vegan steam buns! Fair prices: $2-3

Authentic and more vegan than ever!

The daughter of the original owners took it over and made it super vegan! There's nearly a dozen different vegan pastry/bun options at the front counter, all reasonable priced ($2-4). I've used to live in Guangdong and have visited Hong Kong many times; the pastries at Keefer Court taste just like I remember the ones there tasting.

I've tried the vegan chocolate buttercream cone pastry, the bbq tofu steam bun, the lotus cake, the red bean sesame balls, and the sticky coconut things. They're all solid, but the red bean sesame balls are my personal favorite.

I haven't been to the restaurant section since they reopened. There's a lot more vegan upon request items than there was on their old menu. I hope to go in the next few weeks and try it out.

Pros: Authentic , Good value, Lots of options (although they sometimes run out)

Cons: cash/check only

Vegan Cantonese

Steamed buns with savory fillings that remind me of childhood visits to Chinatown. How I loved those buns! Now I can have them again because Keefer Court does vegan. When ordering vegan entrees be sure to keep specifying vegan preferences when asked about egg rolls and rice options. I give it 4 stars for their tremendous effort and interest in offering vegan options.

My new favorite spot!

Keefer Court is quickly adding more and more vegan options to their menu. The baked goods are marked with a pink tag and "vegan" on them, and my favorite is the red sesame ball. I don't know how they get some of the pastries as flaky as they do, but they're perfection. The service is friendly and welcoming. Make sure you have cash as they do not take credit cards.

Pros: Yummy baked goods, Friendly service

Cons: Cash only, no cards
