Was one of the best in Malmö - Edit
I passed by yesterday to notice that it had closed the day before, I think I have missed the poster on the door when I was here the weekend before.
Read moreI'm not a big fan of the raw, gluten-free vegan trend of "healthy" food. Therefore I liked places like Kao's that have traditional vegan food (yes I'm old and some parts but not all were better before :p) with the Kao's burger in amazing bearnaise sauce that was a milestone in the Malmö vegan food scene (which was missed in the Malmöfestival this year, no vegan food place at all sadly so I boycotted it...).
In recent years I have been here on weekends for having pastry and coffee for ~50-60 kr which is a really inexpensive price and what I think vegan should be, accessible.
Thanks for all the years and hope that you reincarnate sometime in the future, you will be missed :)

Favourite Place in Malmö! - Edit
We've visited Kao's three times in a row now and I've had both the cakes -- which are absolutely fantastic -- as well as the brunch buffet and both my boyfriend and I are already certain that we'll come back next time we're in Malmö! The prices are affordable, the food delicious, and the staff very friendly. I definitely recommend checking this location out when you're in Malmö, I really loved it here!

authentic confort food - Edit
This place is amazing. The food is really good, quality, presentation and the prices are fair. I would work on the location and toilets… improbable. I had the typical Swedish fish no fish dish and the Nasi Goreng with Jack fruits, delicious!! Highly recommend this place 👍🏼

Great cake - Edit
I popped in here for a takeaway slice of princess cake and was not disappointed. Gorgeous cake - so happy to be able to eat princess cake after going vegan! Looked like a nice place to hang out and have lunch. It's right near Astrid och Aporna too, the veggie supermarket.

It was better before - Edit
Kao's used to be very very good when the opened and a few years after that. Now not that much anymore. The food has gotten so much more expensive, for the same amount of food that you got before. Some of their dishes are super nice (burgers, risotto) but some of them are just naaaah. So yeah, it sucks that they've gotten more expensive and sometimes with less food on the plate than normally.

Love this restaurant! - Edit
I've had lunch, dinner and "fika" many, many times. I'm lucky living quite close to Malmö. The food is always delicious, the price is okay (not cheap but okay), the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is nice. It's a cosy and a relaxed place. In the summertime take advantage of eating outside in the cosy back yard!
Read moreMy favourites on the à la carte meny are Kroppkakor, the burgers and the saladtaco. At lunch there is always three options; a soup that goes with a salad buffet, a veggie dish and a fake meat dish.
You must try a delicious cake! It's a must!

Impressive food, cosy atmosphere - Edit
I was very impressed by how tasty and fancy-looking the vegan "kroppkakor" were, given the venueäs otherwise homely, pub vibe. It was nice to have a Swedish vegan meal, rather than relying on Asian cuisine or fast food. The staff were friendly and there was a good selection of beers

Great vegan dessert selection - Edit
Every time I'm in Malmo, I make a special effort to visit Kao's at least once. The vegan dessert selection is incredible (I'm in love with the white chocolate mousse they have regularly) and the staff are lovely (say 'hi!' to Kevin!).
Read moreIn many ways, Kao's is like an upscale vegan pub, as the menu, in some ways, is limited. The veggie burgers are great though, and the alcohol selection is decent. It's not a fine-dining vegan experience, but it is super pleasurable. I highly recommend it!
Pros: Good food, Friendly staff, Amazing desserts
Cons: Limited menu

Lovely cold buffet (with hot soup) - Edit
This restaurant offers a lunch buffet for 90kr which includes soup and bread, a cold spread of potato salad, quinoa salad, tofu, and antipasti, plus coffee and tea. There are two entrances and you need to order at the bar (ie don't wait at the buffet table). The food was mostly very tasty, although the tofu was quite dry as there was no sauce. Take-away is available and it's possible to pay by card. The atmosphere is peaceful and there are board games to borrow too.

Yummy spot for Lunch! - Edit
Stoped in for lunch while we were out shopping. With some direction from other patrons we found out that you have to order lunch at the bar, the restaurant stretches out over three different rooms. There was a small menu with three options on it ( not sure how dinner works) we got a couple beers and tried the black bean lasagna and it was very good! Filling, warm and moist ! We each enjoyed a beer ( they had three on tap and about 15 bottles) then split a piece of princess cake. Really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and helpful waitstaff!

Dry and uninspirational food - Edit
Dry food with peculiar seasoning and odd combinations. I have eaten there twice and had to send back the dishes to the kitchen both times due to it being unedible. Not a place I will give a third chance.

Novel Tastes - Edit
I came there during renovations so there was only outdoor seating. I ordered a bean-curry with rice at a very reasonable price. The dish contained some novel flavors I haven't found in other vegan places. It was great and something you might not have tasted yet. However, the outdoor seating seemed a little disorganized - it could have been a little cleaner and while it was raining the rain dripped through the roof in several spots also above some of the tables. Nonetheless, it felt authentic and the pleasure of tasting the delicious food compensated for everything. I would certainly sit outdoors again, but maybe on a sunnier day.

I love this place - Edit
I've been there many times and have been so happy all of them. The food is so good and you get big portions. There's so many choices and also many cakes. The place itself is very cosy and kind of has it's own style. They serve kind of a lot of ordinary swedish "husmanskost", not too healthy and not only vegetables or hamburgers/pizzas and that's a really good thing according to me. They are really one of a kind in Malmö, no place is like it and i really recommend everyone to go there.

We love you Kaos!! - Edit
We've eaten lots of times at Kaos and it's great. This restaurant is what helped me go vegan after 30 odd years as a vegetarian. We love the lunchtime dish of the day meals which are always good. The evening meals are also very good but I'd like to see some new dishes come onto the menu as I've tried everything now! it's so nice to see such an array of vegan cakes and desserts. I've tried the vanilla heart and lemon cheezecake and loved both. We also love the easygoing atmosphere and you can always chat to the chef and the serving staff. A real oasis.

Great vegan buffet - Edit
Came on a weekday for the vegan buffet. Plenty to choose from, including lentil soup, different flavors of marinated tofu, potato salad, olives, and different flavors of hummus (plus, crunchy sprouts in the salad bar! That always wins with me). We also got a pastry to share (unfortunately don't know the name), which was enjoyable because it wasn't overly sweet. They have an organic bar next door and are located very close to vegan store Astrid och Aporna.
