Delicious!

Excellent food. Creative. Delicious. Almost all vegan with cow’s milk cheese offered for pizza and some items. Desserts are totally fancy and tasty. Add wild mushrooms when you can. So fun!

Pros: Artichoke appetizer , Curry, Outdoor seating with individual heat lamps

Cons: A little pricey, Loved everything , Wish it were totally vegan

Amazing!

It was delicious! Both me and my sister (who are vegan) ordered the bianco pizza w/ vegan cheese, the mushroom platter, califlower wings, and the brownie! The pizza was by far the best vegan pizza we've had and the other stuff was amazing as well! Totally recommend! #Veganuary

Pros: Great vegan opitions!, Used whole foods!

Such great variety!

We ate at Julia‘s two days in a row! The service is phenomenal, as is the atmosphere with friendly people. We appreciated the wood tables! They also have rustic table seating outside under lamps you can turn on for heaters.

We really appreciated the plentiful variety of dishes to choose from that were already vegan, as well as the pizzas that could be easily made vegan. As someone who has a gluten sensitivity, I really enjoyed that not only were all desserts vegan, but the majority were also gluten-free.

We loved the California pizza, the iris salad, the mushroom stew, and four different desserts!!

Wow!

I was not expecting all of the amazing flavors from this humble restaurant. They have so many options ranging from Asian, Mexican, and American dishes. Also don’t forget the desserts! It’s definitely my top spot here in Monterey

Worth the walk up the hill!

A bit more of a trek up from Cannery Row than we’d appreciated but we’ll worth it for great vegan food for me and great vegetarian food for my dairy-eating wife.

Incredible place to celebrate my birthday

I had an unforgettable birthday celebration at Julia's Vegetarian Restaurant. The elegant atmosphere accompanied by a guitarist created the perfect ambiance. Starting with the mushroom sampler and a glass of wine was a great choice. The fried baby blue oysters with cordyceps and Lions Mane were exceptional in flavor and catered to both vegan and gluten-free diets. Among them, the Lions Mane stood out as a personal favorite.

For the main course, we opted for the California Pizza with artichokes, mushrooms, and spinach, all draped in a delightful white sauce. The pizza crust was outstanding, and while the white sauce was delicious, I'd recommend requesting it light if you want to savor the pizza's natural flavors.

To end on a sweet note, we were pleasantly surprised with a maple brownie for dessert. A delightful treat indeed.

As a side note, I must mention the unique bathrooms – they are truly a work of art unlike anything I've seen before.

Julia's Vegetarian Restaurant is undeniably a gem, offering not only delectable dishes but also an elegant atmosphere that makes it an ideal place for celebrations.

Pros: Atmosphere , Mushroom Samper plate is a must, Great service

Fall in love with the BBQ Pizza

So every time i come to Monterey I make sure to visit Julia’s. Open 7 days a week, the BBQ pizza is the best I’ve had and I’ve traveled to over 50 countries. The Yellow Coconut Curry and Cauliflower Wings are game changers as well. They also serve breakfast and brunch and a few desserts. I love fresh, whole foods with zest and enrichment.

Pros: The Pizza, The Wings , The Curry

I’d eat here every day if I could

Took a 3 day trip to Monterey and ate at Julia’s every day I was there. One of those days I went twice - once for breakfast and then later again for dinner. My parents who are non-veg also loved it so much. We got the friend egg sandwich for breakfast, king oysters mushrooms, pizza, coffee. It was all amazing I am already excited to go back on my next trip.

Pros: Amazing food, Great location/decor, Unique

Delicious breakfast & exceptional people

This was our first visit to Julia’s. We ordered to go because I need outside seating. We arrived and saw the lovely outdoor seating area. Everyone at Julia’s was friendly and kind. We ate our meal there and they brought us silverware and water. The food was generous and delicious. We had the fried “egg” sandwich with paprika potatoes and the huevos rancheros (also vegan). Everything was so good and we are stuffed. Thank you to everyone at Julia’s for such a great meal! We’ll see you again, I hope.

Very impressive meal!

We had a delicious dinner, from the homemade kombucha to a chocolate walnut brownie. We started off with the mushroom sampler (the lions mane and oyster mushrooms were fantastic), then we had the smokehouse pizza (make sure to ask for vegan cheese - the cheese is the only thing not vegan when we visited), the iris salad and a brownie. The pizza crust was airy and perfectly cooked, the right amount of toppings and the bbq sauce balanced the pizza without overpowering it. The salad had a variety of veggies and rounded it out. VERY good meal! We will definitely be back to try the California pizza and a curry! They have brunch until 1 too!

Pros: Unique meals, Variety of veggies , Love being able to get a 4 course vegan meal

Delicious Destination Vegan - Bring Friends!

I visited Julia's twice over Labor Day weekend 2021 -- and the food was quite good.

Saturday dinner, indoors:
- Grilled artichokes were outstanding
- Mixed friend mushrooms did not disappoint
- Orange Chicken - apparently a long running stand-by on the menu, I got it and wasn't excited. It was too sweet with too much drippy sauce.
- Cinnamon donut holes were just like what my grandmother made - and irresistible!

Sunday brunch, outdoors
- Mushroom flatbread with arugula was delicious
- Candy cap french toast was so good!

The bathroom is a work of art (currently it's full of cave drawings and black toilet paper). The chef is super friendly and spends time in the dining room, connecting with the diners -- great vibe and enjoyable evening even if dining solo.

Pros: Candy cap French toast, Cinnamon donut holes just like grandma made!, Grilled artichokes

Cons: Parking! Crazy on a Saturday night.

Good food, unique menu

We stopped in for brunch on our way out of town. We ordered the Fried “Egg” Sandwich and the Green “Eggs” & Avocado. The ‘eggs’ they use are made by Loving Hut, and they were fried up and tasted great. Overall the food was fantastic, and the portion sizes were good. The coffee wasn’t great, and to make matters worse, the only non-dairy milk option was coconut milk (which seemed to be canned coconut milk, not the typical beverage style coconut milk). For a relatively upscale vegetarian restaurant with an actual brunch menu, that was pretty disappointing. We’re not sure we’d go back for brunch, but the dinner menu looks great and we’ll definitely stop by to check it out next time we’re in town.

Pros: Great food , Good ambiance

Cons: Very expensive , Lacking in non-dairy milk options for coffee/tea

All about those shrooms!

This is a fantastic veggie/ mostly vegan place. The fried shrooms are incredible (and easily enough to share). The food is really healthy and full of flavour. Every thing we ordered was delicious- if I was local I'd be a regular!

Pros: Delicious and creative, Friendly staff

Just stunning

This is food made and served with love. The fried mushrooms are a can’t-miss. So crispy and light, beautifully seasoned without the heavy greasiness that comes with so much fried food. The fried egg sandwich was to die for. We came back the next day for more mushrooms and to try their pizza. It’s the first time I’ve had something delicately drizzled with truffle oil instead of bathed in it and it was lovely. If you like flavor and a great variety of drinks from local wines to hot tea and house-brewed kombucha, come here! It is pricier but worth every penny and you won’t leave hungry. Also shoutout to the lovely staff, you can tell they are proud to work there and service was impeccable.

Pros: Delicious food, Huge variety, Fantastic service

Excellent menu at Great Little Bistro

Everything we had was house made. An extensive and varied menu. Fried vegan egg sandwich was house made and outstanding. Tempeh bacon was top shelf. Excellent and eclectic mushroom menu to add to any dish. Vegan dessert. While pricy, not out of line with the region.

Pros: High quality food, Varied menu

Cons: Expensive

The place for mushrooms 😋

Most entries have the option to add exotic mushrooms. Great service and food.
**** Make sure you visit the bathroom. It is an experience in it self. Must see.
