Excellence

I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Stopped by for dinner one night and breakfast the next day and both were excellent.

Delicious

Inventive and delicious vegetarian food. Many things are vegan and gluten-free. Very mushroom heavy with wild mushrooms. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. I got an iced tea and one of the specials, potato flautas. It was delicious, and came with salad on top.

Cons: Don’t serve tofu, my preferred protein.

So good!!

Had one of their pizzas with fried oyster mushrooms and garlic aioli as well as potato taquitos. All pizzas can be made vegan. I will definitely be back.

A second chance

-UPDATE-

Julia’s expressed concern over my family's previous experience, acknowledging it as an unusual occurrence. The restaurant issued a sincere written and verbal apology, along with full compensation for the unsatisfactory meal.

Welcomed back with enthusiasm, we were eager to give this local favorite another chance.

We started with the fried mushroom appetizer, a family favorite. The mushrooms were perfectly battered and golden-brown.

For our main course, we chose a smokehouse pizza with vegan cheese and potato flautas. The pizza was phenomenal—the dough was airy and soft, yet crispy on the bottom, and the toppings were expertly placed.

The potato flautas were equally delicious, with well-seasoned potato filling and perfectly fried tortillas.

We concluded our meal with a slice of strawberry cream cake, which disappeared almost instantly due to its deliciousness.

Overall, I'm very pleased with our decision to return to this local gem. We truly appreciate the restaurant's accountability and their warm welcome.

—previous review below—

Our family was eager to dine at Julia's, hoping to find a safe and enjoyable vegetarian meal. Unfortunately, our experience was far from positive.

The service was inconsistent and, at times, downright rude. We were initially served a meager portion of water and had to repeatedly flag down waitstaff for refills. Our server seemed annoyed by our simple water order.

The most shocking incident occurred when a waitress abruptly scolded us for using our phones at the table, even though a nearby table was doing the same. Her rude tone and public shaming were both embarrassing and unnecessary.

While the fried mushrooms were a highlight, the desserts were disappointing. Given the overall poor service and disrespectful treatment, we won't be returning to Julia's.

Food was fantastic

Get the fried oyster mushrooms. They were so good. Also had the tamale pie and the orange vegetables and both were great. Tons of vegan dessert options as well!

AMAZING food, especially for mushroom lovers!

A mushroom lover’s paradise, aka my paradise! Julia’s is a vegetarian restaurant with plenty of vegan options. They focus on a farm-to-table concept, which I just love. Of course, I had to try the mushroom sampler, which included fried lion’s mane, cordyceps, and baby blue oyster mushrooms. Just delicious 🥲 I could have had just a sampler for a meal!

I had the cordycep brunch bowl because I wanted to try their vegan egg. I was shocked because it tasted exactly like how I remember eggs tasting 🤯 My brother had their candy cap French toast, which was super delicious with the walnuts.

The next time I’m in the Pacific Grove and Monterey area, I want to come back to have more mushrooms and try their vegan pizza!

I ordered:
- Mushroom sampler
- Cordyceps brunch bowl
- Candy cap French toast

Almost everything is vegan or can be made vegan

Lots of vegan options. I think just about everything can be made vegan. They have vegan substitutes for anything that's not normally vegan. Very friendly staff.

Pros: Lots of vegan options/substitutes

Delicious food!

Almost everything is vegan, except they serve eggs at breakfast and pizza can have dairy cheese. Vegan cheese available on all pizzas as well. Everything we ate was incredible! The fried mushrooms are a must, they’re exceptional. Even our non vegan friends loved it!

Excellent

Almost all dishes are vegan or are available as a vegan version. My bacon egg sandwich and the French toast both had that special something that elevated the taste to another level. Highly recommended.

Amazing food, cute place

Hubby and I got margarita pizzas (mine was vegan, his was vegetarian). Both were divine! I also got a vegan fruit tart and hibiscus mint kombucha. Can’t say enough good things about the ambiance! The ladies who served us were kind and delightful. Putting this restaurant on our list of favorites when we vacation to Pacific Grove. 10/10 recommend.

Delicious Food and friendly staff

We really enjoyed the Curry and the scone with a caramel-mushroom sauce! Very delicious! I don’t remember the name of the other main dish, but it was also good 😄 Almost everything is vegan, except for one cake option. The staff is also very friendly and had some good recommendations for our stay in Monterey. The food is expensive, but I guess it’s like that in this area. 20-24$ for a main course (June 2024).
The toilet is an experience, though it did not smell that good. But it was clean.
Definitely would go there again!

Mushroom Foraging Event!

What a great experience and perfect day to learn about mushrooms and go foraging with Julia’s. If you want to understand what it takes to forage in the Pacific Coast, this is a good event to attend. They hold the events Nov-Feb(or mid March).

The offer of a 4 course pre fix menu meal was a great value and fabulous meal. Definitely want to do that again!

Pros: Great atmosphere , Friendly staff, Mushrooms!

Super sweet!

My partner and I are on a road trip from Portland, Oregon to Tucson, Arizona, with our cat and our dog. Finding outdoor seating that will accept both pets and where we can still have quality food is challenging, to say the least. Julia's was amazing! They readily accepted our pets, and the food was, unique and delicious. We had the vegan California pizza and a really fabulous sampler appetizer special that included additional locally foraged mushrooms and a side arugula salad that was big enough for two! Everyone was friendly, including other customers, and accepting of our unique situation. There was also live music. It's a small spot, but a worthy trip!

Pros: Quality vegan food, Very friendly service, Pet friendly, outdoor seating with cute heaters

Cons: Outdoor seating is essentially in a parking lot

I also had the crispy mushrooms with the blue oyster mushrooms and they were delicious! The staff was very kind and the bathrooms are cool trust me. For drink I had the hot coco and it was one of the best I’ve had ever. #Veganuary
