Vegan items not vegan - Edit
Now called ‘Mezze Grill’
Read moreWe came here as the menu outside said vegan moussaka and cold mezze including vegan tzatziki however after receiving the cold mezze and questioning it, the chef confirmed they no longer use coconut yoghurt for the tzatziki and the moussaka has cows cheese. Thankfully hadn’t taken a bite of the tzatziki yet. Had to settle with the mushroom shawarma to share - this was quite nice, nothing to write home about (but nor is much of the vegan food in Madeira!). The staff weren’t apologetic or showing any intention to change the incorrect labelling.
PS the falafel is sad, don’t bother

Menu items labeled wrong - Edit
Food was good but I ordered a menu item labeled vegan that ended up being absolutely covered in cheese so just make sure you double check while ordering.

Really delicious but small portions - Edit
Lots of vegan menu items, we went with the grilled cauliflower and mushroom kebab. Both were absolutely delicious, but at 13€, I expect to be full, they were quite small and us two adults could've easily eaten two each. We had to go out and buy more food. Flavours were absolutely delicious though and service was both kind and fast despite them having a busy night.

Cons: Portions too small, Portions too expensive for the size

Instabul now Mezze Grill - Edit
Small and welcoming restaurant serving food for both vegans and non-vegans. Plenting of interesting options in the mains section and lovely vegan cold mezze which was completely veganised for me. Food was very reasonably priced and very tasty.
Read morePros: Lots of vegan oprions starters and mains, Lovely friendly staff, Good prices
Cons: No vegan dessert, Could say if any wines were vegan

Terrible moussaka - Edit
Mezze dishes were fine but vegetable moussaka was one of the worst things I've been served in a long time. Service was pleasant enough

First time in Funchal and found a little gem - Edit
Track this restaurant down via a few articles online hidden underneath an Irish Bar by the casino in Funchal.
Read moreDon’t be put off by the location it’s a nicely presented restaurant with good food and staff.
We had hummus and falafel for our starters which were great. I’m quite picky when it comes to both of these and they were great. Falafel was fresh and crispy, humus obviously home made.
For main course, grilled aubergine and grilled halloumi both served on a bed of tomatoes. It also included a salad and rice.
Halloumi was served with a pesto dressing and could of been a bit crispier ( I’m just being picky).
We both left feeling very satisfied and a reasonable bill
Pros: Lovely service - couldn’t do enough for you, Freshly prepared food - no ping and ding, Nice change from normal veg options
