Irie Gardens - Edit
Beautifully presented food, but OK taste. I didn’t finish my entree (vegan mofongo) because I didn’t like it very much. I probably ordered the wrong thing… I would have ordered a new entree, but this place seriously runs on “island time”, so I chose to skip ordering a new item to avoid the wait. Friendly staff and nice location. 3.5 stars.

Fresh food, big portions, long waiting times - Edit
With almost no tourists in Sint Maarten right now due to covid, Irie Garden is almost empty, just like all the other restaurants. We spent over an hour here and were the only guests. We had also passed it before and it had always been empty. Really sad, because the peope that run Irie Garden put a lot of passion and effort into it.
Read moreThe menu is surprisingly large for such a small place. Everything is cooked fresh, which, depending on the dish, may mean quite a wait. I ordered the eggplant lasagna and was warned it would take 30-40 minutes to cook. We had a juice (actually more like a smoothie) to shorten the waiting time. As they make it on the spot, you can order any combination of fruit off-menu as well - pretty cool.
We had two mains, bean balls with quinoa & salad and the eggplant lasagna & salad. Both arrived when the lasagna was finished. The bean balls came with a sweet and spicy sauce, the quinoa was cooked with lots of herbs and veggies. The side salad consisted of boiled pumpkin and carrots and fresh greens. It was all very tasty. The eggplant lasagna actually was layers upon layers of eggplant interspersed by some tomato sauce with lots of herbs and cheese on top. As you can see in the picture, the cheese had not melted. Similarly, the eggplant was not cooked through and tasted rubbery. I guess they didn't want to keep the customers waiting more than 40 minutes while the dish cooked. That's fair, but the chef should look into ways to shorten the time without serving under-cooked eggplant. The trick would be to precook the eggplant a bit. The side salad was the same as for the other dish.
The portions were huge and the prices tiny. Honestly, I wonder how they can afford to dish out such a mountain of eggplant lasagna or a big plate of bean balls with quinoa for $10 each. It's a great place, fantastic value for money and the staff really are putting their soul into it. Do drop by here - better avoid the eggplant though until they fix the under-cooking issue.
Pros: Freshly cooked, Very big portions, Excellent value for money
Cons: Eggplant undercooked

tastyyyy! - Edit
The food here is really, really tasty. But, although I haven't come here in over a year, when I did in the past, it was definitely important to stress on the vegan options because they weren't even sure as to whether the bread they're using is vegan. I'd say go for something that they are sure is vegan. The food also did take a bit too long to come. Besides those two things, the food here is SO good and I recommend coming here. :)
