Worth the hour drive - Edit
Some of the best Vietnamese food outside of Vietnam. Fresh, delicious and very well priced. Looked like everything was vegan aside from egg noodles.

A lightbulb went off - Edit
The host (sorry, I didn't ask for your name!) talked me into what I was already going to choose from the menu. He asked if I was vegan (I'm not), and made the effort to point out a dish that looked & tasted just like the non-vegan version. He knew he needed to convert me, and I reckon he might have!

Excellent vegan menu - Edit
Today was my first visit ti Huong Viet, and I want to return.
Read moreThis restaurant is all vegan with a few vegetarian dishes. They use mock meat. Both are clearly defined on the menu.
We ordered stir fried beans which were very tasty, hainan chicken and rice - very tasty, and mackerel with ginger sauce that was tasty but tough. Overall the meal was delicious and makes me want to try other dishes.
The shop is narrow and a bit crowded which is possibly why the music was a little loud, but not so loud that it prevented communication.
I did notice that it took a whie for the food to be served, but I was with people who I am happy to spend time talking with, so it wasn't a problem.
The cost was very reasonable.
Huong Viet is worth visiting and supporting as a primarily vegan restaurant.
Pros: Broad menu, Comfortable, Vegan based menu
Cons: Music a little loud

Delicious food. If you’re a mock meat fan, it’s definitely a win for you. However it has such long wait times

Fresh new restaurant - Edit
Great service and hospitality. Food is so fresh, with a focus on authenticity. Nice ambience for family and friends. Broad range of items on the menu, not that you need an excuse to keep coming back.

Yes!! - Edit
Cheap and cheerful. Good selection of mock meat dishes. Super tasty, a little greasy at times, as is often the case with this sort of cuisine, but the veggies are cooked nicely and the service was good. I had salt and pepper "chicken", my partner had mock goat! Big portions, i had half of mine for lunch the next day. Can't wait to go back.

good mock - Edit
I popped in first to grab something to takeaway for a V/Line train trip. The lovely host (owner?) suggested the rice vermicelli salad with satay beef. GREAT choice! It travelled well and was still crisp and fresh when I ate it later. Next time I tried salt and pepper chicken with rice. I enjoyed it but like all of their deep fried dishes, it seems, it was a little on the dry side. Still, the flavours were fresh and satisfying. Tonight I gave the combination barbecue fried rice a go. It is quite oily but not excessively so and it hit the spot on a rainy night. Overall I’ve found the food reliably good and inexpensive. The service is the sweetest and this makes it my go-to whenever I‘m in Footscray for a mock fix.

Always Delicious - Edit
Thanks to an autoimmune disease, leaving the house isn't always an option for me - so I've never visited the restaurant in person, however I've ordered online via UberEATS multiple times and I'm always blown away by the taste. The preparation time is lengthy, and I've had a few problems with things like rice being missing from my order, but I'm willing to look past it purely because of how delicious the food is. The first time I ordered from them, I had the Vegan Salt & Pepper Chicken and I had to call to confirm that it was vegan.

Not afraid to spice it up - Edit
Very generous serving sizes; you won't go home hungry!
Read moreWe enjoyed the spicey lemongrass soup but found the barbecued fried rice a little too oily. The salt and pepper tofu was fair and the rice paper rolls provided a cooling contrast. There's definitely more to explore on the menu. It would be nice to see more veggies and less mock meat dishes ideally.
Pros: Well priced, Well spiced
Cons: Lots of mock meat

Cheap and good Vietnamese style restaurant - Edit
I came there with my husband for lunch, and both the atmosphere and the service were really nice. I ordered the "tofu satay", while he ordered one of the noodle soups. The food came fairly quickly, and we were really satisfied with the portions (huge!) and the freshness of the food. The best part of the whole meal was the soup broth, extremely flavorful without being too salty or spicy. My tofu was crispy, but a bit dry without any sauce, and the soup was overall very good. This is not fine dining, but the price-quality ratio is excellent.
