Best experience ever!

This place is just sheer perfection. Everything single aspect is meticulously thought through, starting with the interior. The food itself is sublime and the drink pairing is the cherry on top that makes the whole experience complete. Each dish and drink is presented in a simple but informative way by the extremely friendly staff. Although it is a high-end restaurant, the atmosphere is relaxed and cozy, which makes the whole experience even more unique.

Amazing food, drinks & place

Honestly blown away by all the dishes. Every one of them was different from the previous plates and yet there was a harmony that made it a full experience to live. Special mention to the non-alcoholic drinks!

Upmarket fancy food

Amazing venue, light, spacious and beautiful. Crockery was perfect, handmade individual pieces in unusual shapes and beautiful colours.

Tasting menu could be veganisised, and there seemed only minor differences between the two versions. Service was great.

Some of the dishes I loved, the canape style crackers with flowers and spreads were delicious. The almost caramelized kohl rabi with almost fizzy foam was fab. A lot of the dishes were good, a kind of mirin(?) pudding with marrow scales hit the mark, as did the petit fours.

The main of lukewarm underseasoned risotto was a sad affair, the sea veg and saffron being barely discernible. The accompanying onion with almond cream was good.

Most disappointing of all was the pudding. Strawberries and sorbet. Yes it had lovely sugar shards, some jammy stuff and a sauce, but boo hiss, that was not a fitting end.

Drinks were good, though I'd have loved a glass of red! The sake was the highlight for me.

Possibly the most expensive meal I've ever had, am I glad I did it? Yes!

It was okay

I expected more to be honest paying 218€ and not getting the drink menu included I expect to be blown away by food if it will cost this much which was not the case also I’m not someone who likes drinks that much water will do for me as that’s what I prefer to consume at meal time and the way the waiter tried to pressure me into getting the drinking menu that was also an extra 44€ pre person I of course didn’t see a point as I do not like it, but he insisted quite a bit and went on to say that’s a bit boring but okay I was I’m boring then, anyway the next thing was the table beside me was a couple and she also only preferred water with her meals and wanted to cancel her the drink pairing before it came se called the waiter and said I would only like water I change my mind I don’t need that many drinks and the waiter gave her such a hard time and acted like it so crazy that she only wanted water strange reactions, her partner on the other hand did want it, which is fine but if she’s doesn’t want the drink menu also why was it so forced I hate it when restaurants try to make you feel bad for not wanting what they suggest, if anything it’s quite rude as everyone preferences are different, regardless she also got the drinks even tho she made it clear she didn’t want it the waiter didn’t communicate with the others, the food was fine but nothing of an amazing experience.

Pros: Full vegan menu

Cons: Expensive , Pressure

Plant-based fine dining

The service is excellent, and so is the food and beverages. Everything is thought to the detail and overall tasting experience is something outside of this world. It's also expensive, and you can see why.

Pros: Creativity of the dishes, Great dining experience

Cons: Expensive

Upscale restaurant

Vegan restaurants aren't only street food places. Humus X Hortense can challenge high-rated restaurants for omnivores. Creative dishes can be turned vegan on demand and the service is very good.

Best Vegan food!

The best food for both vegetarian and vegans; this is a must visit restaurant if you're in Brussels!
Reasonably priced for the quality of food, drinks are optional but are paired perfectly with each dish. We would definitely recommend the drinks.
The staff are excellent and have a great knowledge of the dishes on offer.

Amazing food

Great experience, the food was amazing. We had a tasting menu with 7 courses (plus some small extras) and the paired drinking menu for 105 € per person (5€ for water). Even though it’s expensive it is well worth the money. But be aware that you’re in for a long, slow, night. Took 3h45 for us to eat and a lot of that time was waiting. We also got confused with another table 3 times. With even better service it would have been a 5!

Pros: Great inventive food

Cons: Slow service

Outstanding

I had the pleasure of experiencing the full tasting menu with the non alcholic drink pairing at Humus&Hortence this summer. They pride themseves in using only local and seasonal produce, working with farmers and producers mostly in Belgium. They also utilize a no-waste process that makes sure that pretty much everything they get from these local farmers is beeing used in some way- as basis for drinks, fermented, dried etc. The dishes themselves are simple but very cleverly put together with interesting details and flavours and are being presented by amongst a very warm and nice service staff- the chef and his wife themselves! The drinks here are truly special and really makes the evening complete.

Pros: flavour, local produce, mocktails

A journey for the taste buds!

Please note, this is a very fine gastronomic cuisine.

It's a pretty small and popular place, so you have to make a reservation and mention that you're a vegan, otherwise you'll have to pay more on the spot.
Reservation can be done online and usually 1.5 months in advance.
Attention like 5 days before your reservation, you have to reconfirm it and you will need your credit card again to do so.
A bit complicated in my opinion, now I think they have some experience with the topic.

We've taken the full menu experience, it's very expensive, now it was a decent trip of gastronomic vegan dishes with the right drinks going with it.

They have great staff, with great personalities.
The owners are very active in the restaurant, very hospitable, now they seemed quite reluctant and not very open to talk.

We had a great experience!

Pros: Excellent gastronomic cuisine, Beautiful place

Cons: Expensive, Online booking requires that you stay connected

A journey through wonderful tastes and savors !

The restaurant offers a single menu - that can be made fully Vegan. The combination of savors is simply amazing. Opt for the paired drinks - a mix of wines and cocktails for a full journey of discovery. Highly recommended.

Pros: You can opt for a full vegan menu, Wonderful staff , Fantastic locally grown food

Great adress for food and ambience

There’s no place like this restaurant. The decor and design is a jewel, the chef and the team are very professional and nice touch. We had one vegan menu and one vegetarien. The creativity is top. Everything is unexpected in term of receipt, ingredients and way to present the plate. Taste is there and the pleasure of spend time in couple or with friends too.

Pros: Vegan menu is great, Service , Service

Cons: A little pricy

A Rare Treat

This restaurant was a real surprise to us...a real restaurant serving gourmet food in a setting befitting adults with service to match, not a hippy take-away . The degustaion format looked very small at the outset, but by the end of the 6 courses we had, we were well sated. The owners serve the food personally and answer any questions you might have, and I had plenty because I am very curious about quality vegetarian food. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious and the variety and quality of the ingredients was second to none.

Pros: Unique, Delicious, Convivial atmosphere

Cons: To my amazement water is charged, but this may be

Amzing and unique food

Humus X Hortense buys their products locally and put a lot of thought in their food and drinks.

It's a fine dining restaurant with seasonal foods and the menu is all vegetarian (I did not ask for vegan). Besides the amazing food, they also make cocktails to match a specific dish. The cocktails are very special and they are delicious!

So a bit more expensive, but definitely worth the money!

Explosions of taste

I had diner and enjoyed all the combinations. Art combined with knowledge of the ingredients. I had a an entirely vegan meal. They also love to make house drinks and cocktails and match each drink with a specific dish. Prepare to taste a world of fresh-from-the field mix.

Vegan with style

Always a pleasure that there are place which serve more than just fast food and cares. Not only vegan but it seems that their animal products are locally sources and with care.

Pros: vegan alternatives , animal products carefully selected
