Amazing food!!

Hotel Saravana Bhavan in New Delhi is a renowned destination for authentic South Indian vegetarian cuisine. During my recent visit, I was impressed by the extensive menu featuring traditional dishes like dosas, idlis, and vadas, all prepared with genuine flavors reminiscent of South India. The restaurant’s ambiance is welcoming, and the staff is attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Despite its popularity and occasional wait times, the efficient service and quality of food make it worth the visit. For anyone seeking an authentic South Indian meal in Delhi, Hotel Saravana Bhavan is a must-visit.

Thali Southern Delight

My first southern Indian meal in India and I wasn't disappointed. My guide highly recommended this place, where the locals eat - that's the key!

Great idlis

Deeply wish the SB in Stockholm had the same quality as this one. Great idlis with chutneys that were not exceedingly oily nor too spicy. Wish the sambar would have been less oily, but that’s often the case. Would definitely go again for idlis and probably try their dosa too.

Pros: Well made traditional idli

Cons: Not organic, Not whole foods

Very tasty south indian food 🥘

I was so happy I found this place on my first day in Delhi. Superpopular place with the locals so I had to wait for a while before getting a table. The vegan food I got was delisious and I was very pleased with my visit. They took card.

Amazing South Indian Cuisine

I love the South Indian Cuisine here. It is pure veg aka lacto vegetarian with heaps of vegan options. You can't go wrong with the various dosa and idili on offer with amazing chutneys.

Pros: Amazing South Indian Cuisine

Cheap, delicious, and served on a banana leaf

Really good South Indian food in a pure veg restaurant (dairy, no eggs) but staff were able to accommodate vegans. Great dosa and we enjoyed the sugared fennel seeds with the bill. Busy but with locals too, not just tourists, which is always a good sign.

Cons: Busy, with a queue in the lobby

Great cheap Indian food

The food was great (it’s all vegetarian) and they were able to accommodate to find me dishes without ghee! However, they did put milk based sauces on my plate. But the food was so tasty I didn’t even need them.

An ideal Place for having vegetarian South Indian food

Having visited this place before pandemic in January 2021. The restaurant serves very delicious dosa and other South Indian food. Also the sweets are delicious. Just if you are vegan, ask what milk-free is.

Pros: Not serving non-veg food, Good location, high hygiene standards , Normal prices

Cons: Vegan isn’t marked on the menu,so you have to ask

Great for 2nd day refill after full day sightseeing

Felt like local and were only tourists but exactly what we wanted. Food was amazing and adapted to vegan. Ordered a bit too much as portions were good size but ate it all. Highly recommended

Pros: Lots of vegetarian menu can be adapted to vegan, Cheap as chips

Cons: None

Nice South Indian food

I went to this restaurant because the travel agency guy in my hotel recommended it to me, saying that there are many vegan options. It was full of locals, which is nice because it means it is not the typical touristic place.

The food is quite good but since I didn’t know the names of the dishes and didn’t understand the menu very well, I asked a normal veg lunch set with poori and rice, which is not the typical food everybody else asks for in this restaurant. I learnt too late that what you are supposed to try here is the dosa... well, next time i’ll know better!

Some advice and useful information: when you arrive to the restaurant you will probably find a large crowd of people waiting for their turn to get in. You need to go to the guy in front of the door with a list and ask him to write down your name and number of people you are with. In my case I had to wait around 40 minutes to be called (it was 3.15pm).

Pros: Very local, Clean , Many veg options

Cons: Not clear which dishes have dairy in it , Long list to enter

good, not great

this restaurant was just down the street from where i was staying, so i had a few meals there. the sambar vadai was my favorite, and they had a good dosa selection too.
i asked the manager if any of the sweets were vegan, and he said "no, they all have milk".

Super Yummy

This place is great! Dosas are a real standby for vegans in this part of the world and they do them nicely here! I will keep coming back despite the potential for ghee. The waiters do speak English and are pretty good at explaining things. Its definitely worth the trip. My favorite place to eat in New Delhi. I'm addicted.

Pros: Really Clean, So Tasty, So Good

Cons: Dairy potential, I could get fat here!

excellent food

the food here is great and good value for money. authentic south-indian food. pure vegetarian and fresh. very clean place. the airconditioning is working a bit too hard, so it can be quite cold inside, bring a sweater.
many options for vegans. delicious milk-based sweets. the mini tiffin is a good choice if you want to try a bit of everything. also try the famous south-indian coffee (comes with milk)

One of the best South Indian joints in Delhi

Great food, extensive selection, many vegan options (though some with oil), fresh juices (including sweet carrot juice), reasonably priced.

Sweet-toothed vegans should regard the desserts with suspicion, however: we asked quite a few different employees whether any of the many sweets on offer were vegan, and we got conflicting answers again and again, so we have no confidence. Part of the trouble seems to be that there are so many different kinds of milk products used (ghee, khoya, butter, cream, milk, etc.), but it's also hard to tell who really knows what goes in there, and who's just trying to tell us what they think we want to hear (with the best of intentions, no doubt).

Note that the air-conditioning can be a bit aggressive, so bundle up if you're sensitive.

Pros: Great menu of tasty South Indian food, Many vegan options, Fresh juices

Cons: Unsure whether any sweets are vegan

The Best

The best authentic south Indian experience in an urban environment outside of South India itself. All items are finger licking good (every pun intended)! There are 2 branches in Connought Place itself.

Pros: Authentic, Reasonable
