The best vegan options ever! Original flavors! - Edit
Wowww what a nice and cute restaurant! I was sitting on the roof top at the end of the afternoon with the sun in my face around the end of October. Had a really nice locally made gingerbeer! Which was delicious, then had the vegan kebab, made with local tofu and smoked in banana leafs which I thought was soooo cool! Then for desert I couldn’t choose so she made a little platter for me so I could taste all three of them. Every vegetarian of vegan in portimao should go here !!!

One of the best and cutest places to eat in the world - Edit
This is the best organic and vegetarian/vegan place in the world and i visited at least 40-50 in my life. Its incredible delicious, the owners are lovable. My honest opinion is that everything is great about this place: it has art, great food and beautiful people. I wish there would be more places like this.

Good, Good, Good - Edit
A place I really like. Tofu with tomato sauce and sauteed vegetables and the stews are some of my favourites. The veggie patés are so nice as well, and the peppers with mustard and moscatel are great. Love that they have organic and vegan portuguese wines. The ORGANIC MOJITO SO GOOD. To finish allways try the desserts and organic espresso.

Not the best experience but lovely staff - Edit
I think we were just a bit unfortunate with our choices. I suggest you don’t take the vegan kebab (figs and tofu). It was nothing more than figs and tofu put on a skewer and put under the grill. The tofu was really really dry and not tasty at all. The broccolisoup was simple and a bit overcooked. The briyani dish was good though. Sadly the view from the rooftop terrace is downgraded because of a new building right in front of it, but it’s still lovely to sit there. The staff was very lovely.

Amazing food and service - Edit
Full vegetarian menu with lots of vegan options. I went for the seitan in tangerine sauce and my partner chose the lentil stew. Both were new to us and we thought they were great. The smoothie of the day was watermelon and mint which was so good. I had a vegan ginger beer which was also good even if it was super spicy from the ginger!

We enjoyed the many vegan options. This Restaurant is open in August 2020 and they have a nice, small rooftop terrace. You have to try the vegan brownie!

Really fresh and tastefull - Edit
Found the restaurant on Happy Cow, and WOW. We had to sit outside as the roof terrace was full, didn't mind (got to see the locals going up and down the street). On total we think there were 15 different dishes from soup to mains...We had the gaspacho, the peppers with mustard and moscatel wine emulsion, the veggie patê (it's a mix of 3 different patês with a small salad and toasts), and the fresh fig mozzarella caprese-theese were the starters-SUPER rich and full of flavours.
Read moreFor mains we also chaired the mix tofu, seitan & sausage kebab that was served with polenta cooked with tangerine, and the green pea stew with cumin and coconut, served with organic whole rice...Everything was so great. We also had the brownie for dessert really yummy, and to wash it down vegan vinho verde(it's a portuguese young wine). Go there it is really worth it. Forgot to take pictures..

Could be better - Edit
The restaurant doesn’t allow pets so we had to sit outside and the outside seating area in front of the restaurant is not that big. The food was a bit tasteless despite the nice presentation of the dishes. It was a bit expensive for the quality of the food. Although everything the staff was nice and helpful.

Delicious lunch! - Edit
I stumbled upon this place today as I was looking for a nice place to have lunch. The first thing that caught my eye was the cute interior and the happy staff. But then.. then came the food! I ordered something with tofu (I've got no clue what the dish was exactly called, my Portuguese is beyond terrible), and it was so tasty! Afterwards I got a piece of lemon cake with roasted seeds on top, which was just as tasty as the dish before. Everyone that visits this town, should really have some food here at least once :)

The best vegan restaurant I have tried in the Algarve! - Edit
Without any doubt, "Hortelã" is the best vegan restaurant I have tried in the Algarve. This place has small dining rooms, a great roof terrace, and delicious food. We eat the soy meatless balls, the tofu and vegetable skewers and the star of the dinner: the vegan chocolate salami (we even took a few slices to home with us!).
Read moreI highly recommend this restaurant with eyes closed!
