Not what it used to be - Edit
I used to love this place. Sadly, food quality took a significant downfall in past year.
Read moreJust to give a few examples, they no longer seem to add mushrooms into the sushi (mushrooms were what gave the sushi great flavor, now it’s just bland), the heirloom tomato salad was missing heirloom tomatoes (instead bland cherry tomatoes were used), lots of dishes now have deep fried elements which is just lazy, and some of the experimental dishes they have had in the menu over the past year have been just plain horrible (e.g. beetroot pasta, shepherds pie, etc.)
They used to offer some truly amazing dishes such as kohlrabi tatare, tomato ceviche, maki set (with mushrooms inside) and parsnip root risotto.
They seem to have also made changes to their waiting staff. During our recent dinner, our waiter thought it is a good idea to bring all 3 raw starters (maki set, raw pad thai, “heirloom” tomato salad) and 2 warm mains (risotto & crispy mushrooms) altogether to our super tiny table… that is 5 large plates on table for 2… we were left speechless and it wasn’t much of an experience.
Sadly it’s been 3 disappointing dinners for us in the past year and I’m afraid we won’t be returning again.

We ordered the sexy tofu, orange cauliflower, buffalo wings and holy maki. It was all so delicious, but our favourite was the orange cauliflower. The sexy tofu has a proper kick, which we weren’t expecting so beware if you don’t like spicy food, but we loved it! Cocktails were sooo nice, and service was great! We look forward to trying the new venue in Notting Hill!

Not the best experience, but read on… - Edit
We truly did not have a very good experience with afternoon tea here, which was disappointing as we were hugely excited about it. However, the manager was very willing to make it right after hearing about it. Hence instead of giving this restaurant a 1 star, we are giving it 3 as a sign of good will and in appreciation for the management’s response. We are willing to give it another go when we are back in town in a few months. We are all about supporting vegan businesses (obviously) and very much hope our next experience will be as good as I know it can be based on many of the other reviews.

Amazing Vegan Lunch - Edit
This kept popping up on my happy cow searches so I came for lunch. The grilled asparagus was delicious and the sauce was perfect. I’ve been craving a vegan sushi roll so this one hit the spot. I treated myself to one scoop of chocolate ice cream for dessert and it was wonderfully rich and creamy. I’ve ordered a Caesar salad with extra tofu for takeaway for dinner. The atmosphere is casual chic with light blue walls, big windows and dried flowers hanging from the ceiling. There’s lively music quietly playing in the background and its well attended but not jammed.

This is some of the best vegan food I have had. Beautifully presented, complex and wonderful flavours, and the general vibe of the place was great. The service was good, but I have only given it 4 stars for service as I think they could have done with at least one more member of staff as it sometimes took a while to get their attention. One server was especially good, but unfortunately I didn't get his name.

We enjoyed the light atmosphere. Truffle butter and bread were super yummy, our mains were good, I ordered the sexy tofu, but it was a lot! of tofu with a sauce/ mash - half the tofu would have been more than enough and I would have liked some veg and/or carb instead. Those who had the risotto said it was nice but it had way too much oil on top. They very kindly gave me a complimentary slice of cake for my birthday which I loved!

Both myself and my mom, who isn’t a vegan, agreed that this was in our top 3 most amazing meals ever!! As a vegan, having so much option was so a treat as was the quality of the food. Cocktails were also amazing. Service and ambiance was a lot top tier. Will always try and go back when I’m in London. The sexy tofu is a MUST!!!!

We went for a birthday meal as a late lunch on a Sunday - weren't too many slots available and some people who did turn up at the door for a late lunch (i.e. not a normal time when you'd expect it to be busy) did have to wait some time/leave and come back. Reserve early!
The menu looks great & exciting, and was difficult to choose. A few things had become unavailable by the time we were eating, including the yorkshire puddings with the roast. Can be understandable as again, we sat down quite late - although the 'replacement' of toast was pretty bizarre. I had the buffalo fried mushrooms which were delicious although you end up with a bit of a dilemma where you have a large portion but not much to go 'with' it (e.g. other veg/sides). Best to order some sharing sides, which might require someone else at the table not to have a roast (was with 3 x roast eaters).
The service was pretty odd - mostly fine although sometimes a bit haphazard. Ordering a drink felt like an inconvenience though, with the restaurant reasonably busy and seemingly only one person bartending (and possibly serving other people as the bar did not seem to be exclusive to the restaurant). So there was a veeeeeery long wait for a drink and at one point it seemed to have been forgotten as others at the table got a second round of drinks before I'd had my first. So definitely order drinks basically as soon as you sit down, and then maybe before you finish your current.

Best Brunch Ever - Edit
Absolutely loved my visit to Holy Carrot. I visited on Sunday for the brunch menu and was spoilt for choice. I went for the scrambled tofu with a mimosa - it was such a treat, everything tasted so fresh and had wonderful flavour. I would highly recommend, it was one of the best meals I have had in a while.

Read moreI opted for the sexy tofu and charred hispi cabbage side. It’s hard to believe how enjoyable cabbage can be. Grilled and seasoned with a fab ranch sauce.
The Sexy Tofu was nothing like I had pictures. Baked tofu on a bed of eggplant, red pepper and peanut sauce. Ying and Yang flavours, sweet & salty goodness.
A must in London.
