Peaceful deliciousness - Edit
The lovely people running this new favorite place made us the most delicious, organic, fresh, filling lunch set ever. The sitting area is filled with books all around and the 60ties feel of the seating area is cute. I had the brown sugar ginger soy milk and it was delightful. Our lunch set came with rice and miso soup and gyoza. There were many small dishes on the plate: eggplant, salad, sweet potato, pumpkin, a veggie pattie etc. All so good!!!! For dessert we had Ohagi, sweet rice balls filled with bean paste and covered one with roasted green tea and the other roasted bean powder. Delicious. We loved the whole slow food experience.

Hidden gem - Edit
This place is a hidden gem in Kyoto. Located on a small street outside of the city center. This small restaurant packs in the flavor with large portion for a great price. First of all the soy milk ginger brown sugar drink is next level goodness. The dumpling leaving you thinking about the theft time you will be able to enjoy them. The lunch set is full of flavors and fills you up! Some days I have to remind myself I need to try new places but I just keep going back.

Lovely - Edit
Very lovely place! The interior is so beautiful, I really loved the vibes.
Read moreThe staff doesn‘t speak much English, but is very friendly.
I had the changing lunch set, and it was absolutely beautiful - tastewise as well as aesthetically. For the quality of the food, the price is fair as well.
Also had two of their sweets (hazelnut and roasted soy flour). They were very tasty as well! :)
Pros: All vegan, Nice interior, Good quality food

Wow! - Edit
What a welcoming place! A bit hidden but a real gem.
Read moreWe enjoyed the vegan set menu which was really from a high level. Everything on our plate was fresh, well prepared and absolutely delicious. The best vegan menu we had in Kyoto for a price that can't be beaten. While waiting we were listening to some good music from The Pascals, a Japanese band with outstanding musicians. I never heard of them but the 2 owners were very enthusiast about this group. me too know.
Find out for yourself what a great place this is and on top get to know some Japanese music!Make this place known, they deserve it!
Pros: Great food!, Nice ambiance., Cheap for what you get.

Lovely little cafe - Edit
The cafe itself has an indie feeling and is very cosy with books lining the walls. Though there was only one member of staff there when we went she was very friendly and polite and cooked our food quickly. I had a curry and soup, and my mum had the miso soup with vegetable dishes. The presentation was beautiful and each dish was brought out to use at just the right time so we could enjoy them separately. The price was very reasonable considering how brilliant it tasted. We left feeling full but not stuffed. Overall, it was thoroughly enjoyable to eat in this charming little cafe.

great, fresh, vegan food - Edit
I've been in Kyoto for a month now and the vegetable-focused food was a nice break from all the tofu and rice I usually get. The food is excellent, and the cafe has a nice vibe as well. Great value for the amount and quality of food (for reference, I ate a large and filling lunch for 1000yen).

Cosy vegan cafe In Higashiyama - Edit
Location: On the north side of Niomon-dori, a block west of Higashioji-dori.
Read moreThis small cafe has a book filled interior, 2 Western-style tables for four and additional counter seating, and offers a lunch set ( soup, rice, tasting platter ) a veg curry bowl , coffee, teas , vegan dessert . The tasty lunch set served on attractive ceramic dishes included eggplant, lotus root, carrots and several other little plates in a mix of marinades and flavors. This was a bargain at 1000 -1200yen. The day’s dessert was a selection of flavored rice balls: green tea, mugwort, etc.
Small places like this often have limited amounts of food prepared and when we stopped in on a different day an hour before closing time , we were apologetically told they had stopped serving!
Plan accordingly.
Pros: Comfortable , Delicious vegan food, Reasonable price and portion size
Cons: Open only Fri-Sun , Not open for dinner

Delight for the tastebuds - Edit
They are only open Friday through Sunday, but it's worth seeking out this cozy little cafe. I had the lunch set, and it was totally delicious. There were flavors I had not experienced before. The menu clearly states that everything is vegan, and the menu is in English and Japanese. A lot of vegan restaurants in Kyoto have a Western-influenced menu, so it's nice to find a vegan restaurant where you can experience a more traditional Japanese style of food. Highly recommend!

Great food, great atmosphere - Edit
This restaurant is my favourite kind of place to get food. It’s easy to relax, there are many books around so you can flick through a book while you have a coffee or wait for your meal. The food was super delicious, no complaints at all. They asked me if I was okay with 梅 (pickled plum) which was thoughtful(I happen to love it so was happy it came with my rice).

Hidden gem - Edit
Amazing little cafe. One of Kyoto’s hidden gems. The lunch set was an explosion of flavours so every bite was a new taste. They use local, seasonal products so each time you go the menu is a little different. There was a lot of food for a really cheap price, and the owner’s were so friendly and kind. I went during Kyoto’s heat wave and their ice cream sandwich was just perfect for escaping the heat. There are also many classic books and manga for customers to read as they relax and eat. I highly recommend!

A hidden little gem - Edit
This is such a lovely little place! The food is very well prepared, arranged artistically, and every bite is a delight. I love that there are so many different flavors and spices used in the set selection, not all of them traditionally Japanese. To list a few, caramelized nuts on top of pumpkin, holybasil in the tiny spring roll, and veggies with cheesy sauce placed on a kind of leaf that adds flavor to the dish. For such nicely prepared and presented food, as well as a good amount, the price of ¥1,000 is really incredible. The menu changes frequently, but there is always a set selection and another entree or two (curry, etc.). There are also Japanese sweets and coffee, and some other options—I just head straight for the set. This was my second time visiting and the items included were different but equally satisfying! The owners are a very friendly couple, and though not a lot of English is spoken, it does not seem difficult to order.
