Vegan comfort/fast food. - Edit
Vegan comfort/fast food. The menu is all of the same kind, yet they have managed to inject a good amount of diversity into it. I had two meals here and really enjoyed both. The baked goods and fresh juice were also great. They are committed to sustainability and I was thrilled that everything there was compostable (plates, cups, utensils, etc.) I was in DC for work and HCV was a great spot to pop into to grab food without any fuss.

Best sweet potato fries I've ever had!! - Edit
Everything we had for lunch at this place was fantastic. I had a chick'un ranch sandwich and my husband had the chick'un fajita wrap. Both were super tasty. We shared an order of sweet potato fries...we're not usually big fans but they didn't have regular fries and we were on vacation so, what the heck. We were blown away by the fry perfection. Hip City Veg has giant letters on the wall that spell out CRISPY and they're not kidding! The fries and the seitan were super crisp and delicious. We shared a brownie and a shake and both were fantastic. This restaurant is similar in concept to Terri and Blossom du Jour in NYC....order at the counter and then take a seat and wait for your food. It takes quite a bit longer here but it's worth the wait. Our meal was fresh and hot. The wait time would never fly in NYC but if I lived near Hip City Veg I'd go all the time anyway.

Great burger, some organics - Edit
HipCityVeg rocks a mean chick-un burger. I especially appreciate that all their tofu is organic and non-GM. Very friendly service.

Best Vegan Cafe in DC - Edit
I've eaten here a few times and had something different each time and each time I have been delightfully surprised at how tasty the food is. I even took some non-vegan friends there and they loved the Philly steak. Everything I've tried there has been very filling so value for money. And the sweet treats are really yummy! The staff are always super friendly. They use compostable wares, so extra points for them :)

Great Vegan Comfort Food - Edit
If you're worried about missing your favorite treats as a vegan, this is the place for you. I got the Philly cheesesteak and sweet potato fries and it was amazing. The baked goods we tried were perfect moisture and firmness. Don't plan on being able to sit down, though; Space is very limited.

Amazing - Edit
The Philly Steaks are so delicious! I'm a Vegan but my husband and daughter are not. I finally found a place where they can enjoy food with me. We ordered two philly Steaks, a cupcake, and a brownie. Everything was so amazing! We also ordered a Udon Noodles to go, so I will be enjoying that for dinner. I'm so pleased to find a good Vegan place to eat with my family. Although I tricked my daughter to eat the "meat" in my philly steak lol she really loved it. 😉

Tiny restaurant and packed so it's hard to get a seat but that is because everything is vegan and amazing! I had the BBQ chick's sandwich and birthday cake shake. My daughter devoured the Ziggy burger, fries, and shake. Vegan or not, come here!

This small eatery stands tall, with the tastiest vegan food ever. I had the Ziggy, and my partner had the Disco Chicken. The tempe was grilled perfectly. I wish they weren't out of their famous banana whip.

I just visited Washington DC for work and ate at Hip City Veg 3 times. I wish I had gone more. The salad wasn't much to write home about, but the sandwiches, sweet potato fries, and milkshakes were the absolute best! Vegan junk food heaven!

ooey gooey yumminess in dc - Edit
What a great addition to the DC vegan scene HipCityVeg is. We stuffed ourselves on the Philly Steak, Buffalo Bella, Massaman Tofu Wrap, Groothie plus Banana Whips. All was superbly tasty and unique. The Philly Steak probably requires a knife and fork unless you're up for a serious mess. The others are easy to handle. The Banana Whips were so good I may go and buy one of those machines from Amazon. HipCityVeg is not to be missed. 5 STARS.

HipCityVeg - Edit
Yesterday I walked an hour to try the bestseller Crispy HipCity Ranch sandwich. It was undercooked, nearly inedible, and the worst sandwich I had eaten in at least a year.
Read moreMy absolute favorite at HipCityVeg is the Bistro Bella, but i gave up after I got four bad sandwiches in a row, including one where the mushroom wasn't cooked at all, at least two with too much mustard, which overpowered the sandwich. On the best days, the Bistro Bella tastes divine, the best mushroom sandwich I've ever had.
Another favorite used to be the Massanum Curry Tofu wrap but I found that I coughed so much when eating it that I can't do that one any more.
I've tried quite a few items on the menu, but the Bella Bistro has always remained my favorite. The Chipotle Fajita was terrible, so spicy it burned my mouth and throat. The Buffalo Bistro is a favorite to many, but I didn't like that one at all.
I'm a salad lover and enjoyed the Argula Taco salad each time I had it. In contrast, the Udon Noodle salad had undercooked noodles and was one of the worst salads I had suffered through in ages.
I stopped ordering the sweet potato fries because the first few times were great but I almost always got very soggy and unappetizing fries on the following visits. On the best days, the fries are great with black bean dip.
HipCityVeg has a huge following, and I'm glad that DC vegans have more options in that area, including that restaurant, along with Shouk, Dangerously Delicious Pies, and other eateries.
I now prefer the vegan savory pies at Dangerously Delicious Pies on nearby I Street,, N.W. The ratatouille is especially good, and the savory pies are always excellent.
My next visit to HipCityVeg will be to give the Bella Bistro another try, maybe get another Argula Taco salad. I've also heard that the chopped Med salad is good, and would give that a try.
I can't stand agave so I didn't like the kale lemonade at all. I know a lot of people love that drink.
I want to love HipCityVeg but I need the $11 wraps and sandwiches to be great every time. On the best days, HipCityVeg offers a Bella Bistro sandwich and sweet potato fries that are amazing. The salads can be refreshing as well.
Pros: The Bella Bistro is often amazing., The Argula Taco salad is quite good., The sweet potato fries with bean dip can be great.
Cons: Too often I've received undercooked or "off" food., The Crispy HipCityVeg sandwich was nearly inedible, The Chipotle Taco burned my mouth and made me sick

During a quick trip to D.C. we had the pleasure of having dinner here. Very quaint. Amazing staff. I had the ziggy and the special sauce is AHMAZING! He had the cheese steak and loved it. We were both too full for the sweets but plan to head back tomorrow before we leave town. What a pleasure to walk into a place and know that anything I pick is cruelty free. 5 stars

Right in the thick of the tourist area, near to Chinatown. Staff are so friendly and happily explain the specials and make recommendations. I had the giant Philly cheese steak and a root beer. So tasty and so much food! Going back again with room for puddings and hot chocolate. Takes the stress out of traveling as a vegan!
