Convenient - Edit
Perfect spot to find veggies and close to the train station. We go here every time we visit Mannheim. Quick in and out service since it is buffet.

Nice concept, but cake and coffee were disappointing - Edit
We came here for coffee and cake.
Read moreFirst I was overwhelmed by the many options of cake which all looked very delicious. I couldn‘t decide which one, so I took two and took the rest with me.
Offer different milk alternatives, but you have to pay minimum 50 Cent.
Unfortunately neither the two cakes (Mohnkichen and Pfirsichstreusel) nor the Cappuccino (and Latte macchiato of my husband) tasted good. 😔

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Garden
Cons: Milk-Alternative costs extra, Not that delicious, Expensive

Decent but expensive - Edit
Really spacious cafeteria with a friendly atmosphere. The variety of salads is good and the ingredients are fresh. The warm dishes have a decent flavor and appearance. However I felt it was way too expensive for cafeteria food, even if it is Bio. They had 3 dishes of the day, which only one was vegan, so for vegans there are not many options. I paid 10 euros for about 300g of couscous and veggies which were tasty but not very warm. The bakery however looked very interesting and had many vegan cake options. I took a chocolate cake to go which was amazing! Next time I'll go just for the bakery and maybe a salad.

Super delicious vegan cake - Edit
I had the vegan peach streusel cake at Heller´s and absolutely loved it! It was very fruity and the crumbles a little bit soggy (probably because it was shortly before closing time,) just as I prefer them. I like the fact that they use mainly organic ingredients. The staff at the counter were friendly and the café itself is a spacious, bright place. Can´t wait to try out their savoury food, too!

Ok, but not exciting - Edit
Heller's is probably the oldest vegetarian restaurant in Mannheim, and they're fully (or almost 100%) organic these days. However, their food doesn't excite me too much. It's ok, and they mark the vegan options, but all in all, I feel it's not the best value for money. It's price per weight, and I feel like I pay too much for "just ok" food.
Read moreThey also have a café counter with hot drinks and cakes, which I like more. They have a variety of vegan cakes and pastries. The café part has fixed prices.
Pros: Organic, Vegan cake
Cons: Buffet food not exciting, Price per weight too high

Old school German veg* restaurant - Edit
5 mins walk f/ central train station. Five stars because ALL (!) ingredients are listed, even garlic (!): It can be done 🌟 No fancy food — see photographs — but plenty of options, especially salads. Fries are good, though. Large space with garden seating area; more than 100 seats. Self-service. Good quality. Rather on the expensive side but just do not overeat — they give you huge plates, so do not fully fill them (you pay by weight, and it is substential food anyways). Some good, vegan self-made cakes, not the frozen kind 🥧 Coffee in strong or less strong options. Esoteric flyers but of the friendly kind.

Many vegan options - Edit
I went there for lunch and had a yummy salad, nothing "super special" but it tasted good. "Heller's" is more like a cafeteria so don't expect a small and cosy restaurant. It was a bit crowded but we had no problems to find a place to sit.
Read moreThere are different menus (one is vegan) and a buffet with a large variety of salads which are payed by weight. They also offered vegan cakes and ice cream (fruit flavours and chocolate). Everything is clearly labeled, the ingredients are provided too.
I will update if I've tried the cakes😉
Pros: Many vegan options, Good for having lunch or eat some cake , Vegan cakes and ice cream!
Cons: Salad is a bit pricey (if you eat much), Not really a restaurant

Standard vegan fare - Edit
When I go to a vegan-vegetarian buffet restaurant, I love to pick meals I don’t cook necessarily at home. With this idea in mind, I was a bit disappointed by the choice offered by Heller’s. I was especially disappointed by the choice of desserts. Maybe I’m spoiled by my recent visits of Hiltl and Tibits in Zürich. It seems to me that they try to avoid soy and seitan products which is a pity. Hot, freshly prepared dishes entirely not vegan

Open your heart and minds.... - Edit
When you enter and before you criticize this place. The 75yrs old own and founder of this oldest vegetarian restaurant in Germany still comes by daily and doesn't dare to retire, fearing the standard may drop. They source mostly from organic, local produce and all the choices of their salat bar are freshly prepared. Vegan choices are abundant and they constantly try to improve. Also consider the sheer size of the place and appreciate outdoor seating near the fountain.

Pros: Abundance of mostly organic salad, Lots of vegan options , Spacious

Hellers offers a wide selection of either cold and warm dishes, juices, smoothies, desserts on a buffet and a separate cakes section.
Read moreExcept for smoothies, soups and cakes you pay per weight. On the salad side this was 2,90€/100g.
My small to medium sized salad was about 7€.
It tasted fresh and yummy.
The cooked food didn’t look as appealing to me as the salad and veggie station.
Vegan options are clearly marked.
The location is friendly, but canteen flair.
The cakes were amazing! Patisserie quality and plenty of vegan choices.
Pros: cakes are divine , Many vegan options
Cons: solid food, but not extraordinary , paying per weight is not my fave thing ;-)

Good variety, avoid the bakery - Edit
This place has great vegan selection of salads, soups, and hot food, although it is costly. However, essentially all the vegan pastries contained margarine. It's unfortunate that in 2018 a 'health' store actually uses margarine, which have been banned even in the USA due to high content of hydrogenated and trans-fats.

Great salads and cakes, mediocre warm dishes - Edit
You can either eat a full meal at the buffet or just take a coffee and a piece of cake at the café.
Read moreMost of the food (85% to date) is organic, which is a plus.
- The buffet:
A large choice of salads (potato salad with smoked tofu, lentil salad...), vegan options are plentiful and clearly marked, it's very easy to make yourself a filling and balanced meal. The food is simple, but good.
The warm dishes are often disappointing for vegans though. The daily changing main dish is almost always non-vegan, so vegans only get the side dishes, which can be a little bland.
- The café:
Vegan cake (and ice cream in the summer) options are also clearly marked. There are always at least 3-4 vegan options.
The fruity types of cakes are delicious! I cannot vouch for the "heavier" cakes which look too dry/heavy for my taste (typical of German baked goods) but there are always several options so you're guaranteed to find something appealing.
There are also several coffee options (with soy or almond milk).
Pros: mostly organic, lots of salads, CAKE!
Cons: disappointing warm options

Great vegan cakes and tartes - Edit
