Raspberry scones recommended

We came at 10 to 4 on a Saturday in July. Initially just had hot drinks as they were about to close. Had a good look around the shop and noticed how well stocked for vegans it is. Then the lady said she was about to cash up and would we like anything. So we just said how good for vegans it is. And she pointed out a lot of the cakes have a VG symbol on the card. So we had a last minute raspberry scone and she got some vegan spread! Apparently some of the staff and volunteers are vegan too. Would definitely call in here again.

Pros: Lovely vibe, Is open on a Saturday when RSPB café closed

Friendly, well stocked local shop and cafe offering a good range of vegan produce.

Lovely cafe and shop tucked down short lane in the pretty village of Hallbankgate. For a small village shop, there is a surprisingly good array of produce including a great range of vegan goodies including chocolate, dairy free yoghurts, spreads and pies - and lots of other stuff too. The cafe offers a lovely range of home baking. Last time I was in, I bought vegan raspberry scones, and they were delicious. The staff who are mainly volunteers are really friendly and helpful. There is plenty parking in the village. There is seating for the cafe both indoors and out, and a great location if you are cycling by, as there is plenty room to leave your bike.

Pros: Great range of vegan products, Comfortable relaxed cafe, Friendly staff

Great find

hallbankgate is a little old school and part of a bygone era.
There is a good selection of vegan options mainly platters, but a chilli and vegan sausage sandwich was available.
We had the hummus, avocado patter and the chilli. All were tasty and really healthy with a side salad.
A volunteer-run cafe it really is a bargain if you are heading north or south on the m6.
It has a decent shop selling veg, kitchen cupboard items and from food such as frys and clives.

Pros: Staff, Ethos, Healthy

Cons: Meat

Amazing community coffee shop

Good selection of vegan cakes and coffee, unfortunately we came on a Sunday which is the only day they don’t serve hot food but I’m sure that’s delicious too!

A local vegan hub

Decided to try out the Hallbankgate hub this morning for a piece of cake and a cuppa, was really pleasantly surprised, comfy seats, friendly staff and a plethora of Vegan treats. At least 3 fresh cakes, soy or almond milk for tea, and a wide range of frozen goods from ice cream to sausages. Also little library that if you are a member of Cumbria Libraries you can take books out. We will 100% be returning 😁

Wonderful

I wish I could leave 5 stars but happycow will only allow that for fully vegan establishments. As a family of 4 on holiday we were very happy to find this shop and cafe. There were a few vegan options so we had a bit of everything and shared. Lovely wholesome, warming food on a rainy day and the staff were very nice, welcoming and helpful. We would love to come back next time we are in the area. The shop was well stocked too.

Pros: Warm vegan food options, Vegan cakes, Lovely staff and volunteers
