Wonderful!!

We ate here twice in Oct 09, once for lunch and once for dinner and both times were excellent. The waitresses were very helpful explaining the dishes and combinations and the food was well presented, and lovely sized portions. The vegan sushi was particularly excellent as was the veggie "meat". All mains come with a great selection of side salads so you're experiencing more flavours and tastes. Highly recommended and worth the 20 min walk from Waikiki. Only disappointment was we didn't like the desserts (tofu tiramisu and pumpkin pudding).

Pros: Excellent Food, Great decor, great staff

Hale

I am vegan and I had the kuruma-fu, which is a kind of japanese meat substitute that is softer than seitan that was battered and deep fried. It reminded me of chicken nuggets or fish sticks. It was really good, but a bit expensive. The gyoza was also good. However, the desserts are not sweet like normal desserts because they are macrobiotic.

Pros: Healthy, Classy decor

Cons: Expensive, Location near a walmart

Great spot for lunch

While on vacation, we stopped at Hale for lunch. It's right around the corner from Wal-Mart (which has great souvenirs). It was so nice to have a "real" meal on vacation. I had the special - fried seitan with maui onions with tiramisu for dessert. Yummy! As Hale is macrobiotic, it reminds me of M Cafe in LA, but this place is all sit-down, not cafeteria style.

Pros: delicious ("ono") food, nice atmosphere

Cons: small parking lot

Excellent

This is a fantastic addition to Honolulu's rather meager vege eating options. The staff are amazingly friendly and polite. The menu is varied and interesting. In typical macrobiotic form, everything is vegan save for the fish items. The Food is delicious and the ambiance is great - the restaurant is open, airy and the decor is tasteful, the portions are perfect for the average person. The tofu tiramisu is especially tasty. Don't miss a visit to this restaurant if you are in town!

Pros: Great food, Decor, Staff
