Read moreI have been vegan since 1993, and have been to literally hundreds of vegan or vegan-friendly restaurants, and Green Zenphony is one of my absolute favorites.
The food is unbelievable, always delicious, beautiful and cooked to perfection.
The atmosphere is calming and understated. Quiet music, usually jazzy or Asian-inspired covers of popular tunes.
The service is unparalleled. They are beyond kind, they will bend over backwards to please you.
I have brought many omnivores here and they've always been delighted. Never a single complaint. I dragged one friend here kicking and screaming (he was a big meat eater); he ended up going back without me a few more times - it was that good.
They got the gravy wrong on his sizzling mushroom steak. Neither of us noticed, but the owner did. She apologized profusely for insulting us with the chef's mistake. We were already happy with it but she insisted on making it over again with the right sauce to make a good impression, and it was even better.
I'm a huge fan of the cedar pancakes, spring rolls, Orange Sensation, and Mango Chicken. Their homemade vegan cheesecake is to die for. Nothing on the menu has ever disappointed me.
Unfortunately, the parking is atrocious. Pretty much any business along Queens Blvd deals with this, though, and this place is no exception. They don't have their own private parking; I think if they did, they would have much more business. It's luck of the draw - sometimes I have found parking two steps in front of the door, sometimes I have to walk half a mile in the freezing cold because there's no street parking. And it's ALWAYS worth it. Get there early to park.
This place is spectacular. It's surprising to me how empty it is most of the time. I'd expect it to be completely packed. I really do hope they stick around for many years and expand to other locations.
Do not miss this gem - you will love it!
Update: It looks like it's temporarily closed, likely due to the coronavirus shutdown. I really do hope they open again soon. I can't wait to come back.
Update 2 - 5/13/23: I'm very sad to see this place is permanently closed. Another casualty of the pandemic. NY has lost a great institution.

Inferior to Brooklyn veg Asian options - Edit
Had a meal at Green Zenphony recently. Flavorwise, it was far inferior to other veg Chinese places in the city. It also seemed overpriced and under-flavored. Everything fried had kind of a funny taste, like they don't get rid of old oil in their fryer. Loving Hut and Lucky in Brooklyn are both far superior. Service was a little better than okay but not great.

A favorite since childhood - Edit
I was so excited to find this restaurant again. When I was a kid we used to eat at their former restaurant before it closed. I found this place on Happy Cow and was thrilled that it tasted the same as I remembered. Will definitely be back.

Best vegan place in NYC - Edit
I go there once a week, at least. I’ve tried most their dishes and they amazing! My favorites are mango madness, orange infusion... I also love to order the cider pancake and the appetizer for 2! You should try it. I love the bamboo soup and the hot and sour soup! Omg, I would say I love the entire menu!

I’ve had the veggie chicken and rice special here (I can’t recall the name, but it was a special that came with miso soup, and a drink), and the food was DELICIOUS! I highly recommend the place!

This place has every mock dish you could ever imagine. It’s Asian food, so not really mock cheese as much as the meats! Fantastic veggie ribs and the sesame veggie beef was a personal favorite.cannot wait to go back! Never disappoints. And best chocolate ice real I think ive ever had. Cheesecake is listed on the menu but they dont always have it

Best Chinese food we have ever had. We've tried a few vegan Chinese restaurants before, but nothing comes even close to this place. They give complimentary tea and pickled slaw. Omg delicious! I would highly recommend this place. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Five stars ! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This place has an extensive vegan Chinese menu, is reasonably priced, and has lots of seating. They were extremely accommodating to my tantrumy vegan toddler. Try their lettuce song, mango “chicken,” or their taro bowl. Yum!

I absolutely love the plain love mein with the curry fried rice and veggies chickn and the spring rolls. Order it every time. And delicious. They already know me . They are very respectful and polite and actually care.. if you have any issues they will work with you for you to love the food trust me . They are awesome. Deff recommend them

I do not recommend this place. My boyfriend and I got sick after consuming food from Green Zenphony. The food was bland, heavy, greasy, frozen and overall, disgusting. If you would eat anything put in front of you, by all means go there. If you’re looking for food that is fresh, tasty and worth your money, go elsewhere.

Their entrees are so good and so creative! They always have so many textures in each dish, whether they be a mixture of mock meats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc. One of the best Asian vegan restaurants in Queens! I love these dishes/apps: West Lake, Cedar Pancakes, Asam Fish, Pineapple Veggie Duck. So yummy!

Amazing experience! I went there for lunch and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. I had the Veggie Duck & Wonton Mai Fun Noodle Soup and it was DE-LI-CIOUS!!! I treated myself with a mango pudding too (made with agar-agar) and it was also very good! I cannot wait to go back there and try more food! The menu is awesome

Eating out as a vegan is a bit difficult, and this place makes it easy. Food tasted great and looked very appealing all with a decent portion size. Staff is attentive but not bothersome. Don't feel like cooking or want to eat out? This is a great option.
