Grasmere gem!

I went in out of curiosity and left with a box full of chocolates! There are quite a few (super delicious) vegan options available and I can recommend them all😄

Grasmere Chocolate Cottage

AMAZING. I thought I’d find only one, maybe two vegan options here... But to my surprise, there were ~15 fancy chocolate options. I absolutely LOVED the chocolate filled with mint cream. The owner had so many other vegan options including rose cream, orange cream, lemon cream, etc. that were all really delicious. She’s really a genius, her chocolate are to die for. Don’t miss this place!

Yum!

My walking group tends to visit Grasmere on a Sunday so I was perpetually tantalised by the knowledge that Chocolate Cottage was nearby, but shut. However, I then discovered that it is open till 3:30 on Sundays! This was a joyous and sticky discovery (the more so since I left the chocolates lying in a sunbeam when I got home and they melted). I had the orange fondants and coffee creams, which were gorgeous colours, almost too strongly flavoured (which didn't stop me eating them!) and reasonably priced. (As for that walking group I mentioned, the shop also sells Kendal Mint Cake...)

Pros: Enjoyable chocolates, nice shop

Vegan choccies

After browsing the chocolate and confectionery store shelves finding several vegan goodies we asked the lady behind the counter if any of the homemade chocolates were vegan and several were - about 60%. She was Angela one of the friendly owners and she said she realised many of the dark chocolates would be vegan if she didn't decorate them with a dob of milk or white choc so left it off. Like most vegan chocs there are too many (in my opinion) fruit or fondant based ones, but these did taste superior to any others I've had. There was an almond nut cluster which in Angela's opinion is the nicest choc in the whole shop.

Pros: knowledgeable friendly owners, gorgeous chocolates

Cons: no vegan toffees or many nuttys
