Had a great meal here. I ordered Bowl Dos and will likely be back again soon for the same again.. Ace cocktails too - the Paloma was perfectly balanced and my friend loved her Mezcal Mule. Nice outdoor seating area and sweet service.

Gracias Madre - Edit
Update: I ate here a few more times when I lived in SF between 2016-2019 and found it disappointing each time. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, unfortunately.

I was in a hurry and chose Gracias Madre as my lunch option for the day. I didn't have time to peruse the menu so I asked the waiter what his favorite dishes were. I ended up with the enchiladas covered in mole.
If my food had cost less than it did (I think I paid $18 total) I may rate it slightly higher given the taste and quality (maybe 3.5 compared to 2.5). But because of this, I cannot. I wasn't super impressed with the dish. The mole was good, but everything else was just meh. I did not care for the steamed kale that came with the dish and the mashed black beans were OK. I really felt something was missing on the enchiladas and feel they have a lot of potential, but they just didn't do it for me this time.

We had 3 entrees & one drink and the check was $100 with the tip so pretty expensive for Mexican food. However everything we had was superb. The area outside smelt of urine & was full of people selling goods. Didn’t feel very safe.

Walked into this lovely place by chance after the restaurant I was looking for was closed. Food was delicious, decent portions and very tasty.

It went from a 5 stars to zero if I could rate them that.

The menu is loaded with amazing favorites. The serving size was perfect. The service was very pleasant and quick for how busy it was. This place is a must! Don’t miss out.

This restaurant has a cute covered patio with a few tables and is pretty big inside - service was super, super fast and friendly and the food was great (I had Bowl Dos). The sangria, however, was disappointing, so I would avoid it!! The menu looked quite varied and it is 100% plant based and locally sourced, to the extent possible.

The menu had lots of choices, all vegan and our server was very knowledgeable about what was and wasn’t gluten free and even told us which menu items to avoid if cross contamination is a concern. All of the food we ordered was excellent.

I ordered the Cesar salad with escebeche. It was honestly one of the most disappointing things I have ever eaten and at $16 before tax, one of the biggest wastes of money I have spent too.
Read moreIt managed to be both bland and unpleasant tasting all at once. It was just lettuce, big slices of raw carrot, some jalapenos, some avocado, some pepitas and really unappetising pickled garlic and zucchini. I love salad usually, but I found myself grimacing through it to finish it.
I looked at what other guests were having, and honestly, I can't see why this place gets so many stars and was so busy.

WE HAD THE BEST WAITER EVER. Everything was vegan. They made sure to tell us when they'd be back to the table and how long it would take. The food and the dessert was delicious.

Hard to find a vegan mexican spot, so this is a great place to come. Their brunch is really good -- GF Vegan french toast is so yummy. I love their chorizo too. Community style table set ups, unless you reserve or sit at the bar.

The owners posted that they slaughter “their” animals on their farm, where the food for the restaurant is grown. My friends and I are very upset by this, and will no longer support such speciesist people. The food is good but that leaves a sour taste in my mouth! ;-(

It’s famous for a reason! Sangria was great as were our entrees. Charming staff that have been there a long time, something rare at restaurants. Communal tables aren’t for everyone, but there is so much atmosphere and activity that you can just enjoy your companions and the people watching.

Although the restaurant is lovely, the surrounding area made me feel unsafe. Lots of homeless people lining the streets trying to flog stolen goods.
Pros: Fully vegan menu. , The tamale special was delicious. , Took remaining food to go. Was still tasty cold.
Cons: A little out of our price range for vegan food. , Staff were okay. One was particularly miserable. , Surrounding area felt unsafe.

Amazing Mexican experience - Edit
Over my trip in San Francisco I saw this place the first day and i was like i need to go there! Due to other factors I couldn’t go until my last day there it did meet all my expectations! Lots of Mexican dishes that are just made with plants instead of using many processed food I’m looking to go there again!
