Vegetarian cafe near Tokai U

Had the vegan burger plate with homemade ginger ale. Also had a lemon poppyseed muffin and a long black to go. The long black could be stronger for my taste, but otherwise everything was delicious. Especially the muffin! Moist inside and the icing on top is perfect. Ran by a sister and a brother. Friendly people. Parking lot 1 minute walk away just around the corner - ask them for the location.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Serves long black, Friendly owners

Cons: Closed Sundays and Mondays

fantastic

Lovely shop! Called in on the way to Atami. No dogs allowed and no terrace, but she kindly made two burger sets for take out. Super tasty and good value! The baked goods were also on point - got a banana muffin and a brownie. On google maps, search ジンジャーとピクルズや

Pros: good value, super tasty, baked goods

Cons: no dogs allowed

Delicious and cheap vegan lunch options!

We also went to Ginger and Pickles on the way back from Hakone... it's on the Odakyu line, very easy to get to only a minute from Tokaidaigaku-Mae station.

Our first thought was, is this place a mirage?! Two very hungry travellers, who nearly went starving in ... it's a very cute cafe run by a lovely Japanese woman Kobayashi who is passionate about vegan food and lifestyle.

There are two options, a veggie burger and a curry. We both had the veggie burger, it was delicious! It comes with roast potatoes and salad and Japanese pickles.

There are also lots of delicious sweets and raw desserts and meals to go like sandwiches and soy yoghurt and granola. We finished off our lunch with some strong drip coffee and a slice of coconut and lime cake.

What a lovely experience, enjoying some delicious food and talking with Kobayashi about all the great vegan places to visit in Japan!

If you are in the area, definitely drop in you will not be disappointed :)

Pros: Delicious food, Reasonable price, Lovely ambience

Cons: Nothing!

Yummy vegan options!

My partner and I were visiting Hakone for two days and due to the lack of vegan options took the half hour train ride to Tokaidaigaku-Mae Station to visit Ginger and Pickles. It was well worth the trip! The cafe was only two minutes walk from the station adjacent to the train tracks. The menu is limited with only two vegan options, a burger only ¥880 and a curry ¥780 which both come with pickles, salad with a nice dressing and the burger with roasted potatoes. The restaurant also specialises in a ginger apple tea and various vegan biscuits and sweets. We got there quite late in the day so couldn't try everything and got two cookies (chocolate and oat) which were nice.

The decor was very trendy with wooden tables and a minimalistic style. The woman running the cafe was very sweet and although she didn't speak much English she knew what vegan was so no worries there. We also bought some organic vegan bread which is super had to find in Japan and it's delicious!

Pros: Very cheap, Relaxed, quiet atmosphere, Vegan options
